1980 Summer Olympics boycott From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 1980 Summer Olympics boycott of the Moscow Olympics was a part of a package of actions initiated by the United States to protest the Soviet war in Afghanistan.[1] It preceded the 1984 Summer Olympics boycott carried out by the Soviet Union and other Communist-friendly countries.

Quote : | "Obama has retaken a narrow lead in North Carolina a month after having ceded his edge over Mitt Romney for the first time since last October. In early June, PPP showed Romney with a two-point edge in the crucial Tar Heel State (48-46). But now Obama leads by one point (47-46) in a state he took by less than a point four years ago.
Meanwhile, Obama is up eight points in N.C.’s northern neighbor Virginia (50-42). He topped Romney by an identical margin when PPP last polled the Old Dominion in April (51-43), and beat John McCain by only six points there." |

Emails: Geithner, Treasury drove cutoff of non-union Delphi workers’ pensions
Quote : | "Emails obtained by The Daily Caller show that the U.S. Treasury Department, led by Timothy Geithner, was the driving force behind terminating the pensions of 20,000 salaried retirees at the Delphi auto parts manufacturing company.
The move, made in 2009 while the Obama administration implemented its auto bailout plan, appears to have been made solely because those retirees were not members of labor unions.
The internal government emails contradict sworn testimony, in federal court and before Congress, given by several Obama administration figures. They also indicate that the administration misled lawmakers and the courts about the sequence of events surrounding the termination of those non-union pensions, and that administration figures violated federal law.
Delphi, a General Motors company, is one of the world’s largest automotive parts manufacturers. Twenty thousand of its workers lost nearly their entire pensions when the government bailed out GM. At the same time, Delphi employees who were members of the United Auto Workers union saw their pensions topped off and made whole.
The White House and Treasury Department have consistently maintained that the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) independently made the decision to terminate the 20,000 non-union Delphi workers’ pension plan. The PBGC is a federal government agency that handles private-sector pension benefits issues. Its charter calls for independent representation of pension beneficiaries’ interests.
Former Treasury official Matthew Feldman and former White House auto czar Ron Bloom, both key members of the Presidential Task Force on the Auto Industry during the GM bailout, have testified under oath that the PBGC, not the administration, led the effort to terminate the non-union Delphi workers’ pension plan.
“As a result of the Delphi Corporation bankruptcy, for example, Delphi and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation were forced to terminate Delphi’s pension plans, which means there are Delphi retirees who unfortunately will collect less than their full pension benefits,” Feldman testified on July 11, 2012.

Under 29 U.S.C. §1342, the PBGC is the only government entity that is legally empowered to initiate termination of a pension or make any official movements toward doing so. " |

Speaking of MacDonalds....
Quote : | " Mitt Romney’s dad had a card giving him free McDonald’s for life
DES MOINES—Mitt Romney has made no secret of his love for fast food—and it appears he inherited that taste from his dad.
Speaking to supporters at a Chicago fundraiser Tuesday, Romney recognized a member of the audience who had worked at McDonald's, based in nearby Des Plaines, for 27 years—including with the chain's founder, Ray Kroc.
That prompted Romney to tell a story about his father, former Michigan Gov. George Romney, and what he'd found peeking through his father's "top drawer" as a teenager when he was rooting around for spare change.
"I found a little paper card, a little pink card, and it said this entitles George W. Romney to a lifetime of a hamburger, a shake and french fries at McDonald's," Romney said, according to a pool report. "It was signed by the hand of Ray Kroc. My dad had done a little training lesson or whatever for McDonald's when there was just a handful of restaurants, and I saw this thing and was like, 'This is a gold mine, dad! What are you doing?'"
Once he got over the shock, Romney said he had the card laminated for his father.
"My dad, as you know, would go almost every day to a McDonald's restaurant and get either a hamburger or a fish filet sandwich," Romney said. "And he would present this little card and of course the person behind the counter would look and say, 'Well, what is that?' They'd never seen something like that, but he said it was never turned down. They always honored it."" |
Cute story of rich people getting free shit.

Phelps' medal does not represent a profit thus the anology is broken. The medal represents a symbolic gesture of greatnesd in the same way that succesful buisnessman, politicians and scientist also.get awards and or buildings and roads named after them. Now of course the gold medal has value, but as a gesture and not for resale purposes.
Now a profit that he gets is all of his cash from endorsments. One could argue that he should share portions of this out back to the community, but if he isnt already donating some of this to charities or at least giving back to those that have helped him, then he is a heartless citizen, which I bet he isnt. In fact doesnt he have charities already up and running? 8/7/2012 11:24:30 PM |

ASHKAR GHAR, Afghanistan (Reuters) - An Afghan police commander and several of his men killed three U.S. soldiers in the southern province of Helmand, turning guns on them after inviting them to a dinner to discuss security, Afghan officials said on Friday.
The men were all American special forces members and were killed on Thursday night while attending a meeting in the Sarwan Qala area, in what appeared to be a planned attack by rogue Afghan forces.
"During dinner, the police commander and his colleagues shot them and then fled. The commander was Afghan National Police in charge of local police in Sangin," a senior Afghan official told Reuters on condition of anonymity. Sangin is a district.
"It looks like he had drawn up a plan to kill them previously," the official said." |

he Justice Department said Thursday it won't prosecute Wall Street firm Goldman Sachs or its employees in a financial fraud probe.
In a written statement, the department said it conducted an exhaustive investigation of allegations brought to light by a Senate panel investigating the 2008-2009 financial crisis.
"The department and investigative agencies ultimately concluded that the burden of proof to bring a criminal case could not be met based on the law and facts as they exist at this time," the department said.

I think it is relevant to the fact that neither Rmoney nor Obama have said ANYTHING about Afghanistan in their campaigning.
And as more of these killings (Af -> US, Af -> Af, etc.) are reported, it is becoming increasingly obvious that the President has no friggin' clue what to do (nor does Rmoney), which is why neither of them are saying anything.
Here's the point: We have US citizens (young men and young women) in a hostile and extremely volatile country DYING for a completely un-specified mission for an un-specified length of time, and the friggin' COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF has said NOTHING about what he plans to do to protect those citizens.
And that makes you want to support him, or anyone like him?
