Unrevoked is the easiest method. Flashing stuff isn't that bad, it's scary the first time, but now it's like nothing. Cyanogenmod 7 is where it's at if you step up to the flashing a Rom scene. 6/5/2011 6:42:37 PM |

I don't understand how you can call using a perfectly good piece of UI design a rip-off. Android has a software keyboard for touchscreen input. Is that a rip-off of the iPhone just because the iPhone had it first? The iOS notifications center will at least let you clear individual notifications, which Android doesn't. 6/6/2011 3:24:25 PM |

rooted and installed CM7 and am loving life so far. few questions tho
1) Whats your favorite dialer? (i miss evo's stock keyboard allowing u to type a couple letters to bring up peoples names)
2) What theme are you running?
3) How much worse is your battery life these days? (not a huge concern for me, i knew a decrease was in the cards, just curious)
4) Do you overclock your CPU? If so what are your settings and how much improvement have you seen?
5) What are some of your favorite post-root apps (outside of that list above)?
6) A Nandroid backup is a complete backup of your entire OS right? It's essentially like a bare metal/bit by bit backup??

1) Whats your favorite dialer? (i miss evo's stock keyboard allowing u to type a couple letters to bring up peoples names) I like Stock...I find it easy enough to press the search button and start typing 2-3 letters. Go Dialer is the next best option IMO if you want that functionality.
2) What theme are you running? MattedBlues
3) How much worse is your battery life these days? (not a huge concern for me, i knew a decrease was in the cards, just curious) I have an extended battery - 3500 mah. That lasts me all day with moderate use, so I can only imagine what you guys with normal batteries are going through...
4) Do you overclock your CPU? If so what are your settings and how much improvement have you seen? Yep...I switch between kernels sometimes. Stock gives me the best battery life at 1113mhz ondemand. I notice the snappier response time. I have Kernel Manager installed and so I switch back and forth regularly. I use godmode kernel for more overclocking if need be. It's undervolted but still the battery life isn't great...Tiamat is the the other one.
5) What are some of your favorite post-root apps (outside of that list above)? Nothing that's root only...tethering is good...WidgetLocker working with root exception is better than setting it to the home key with WLHelper or whatever...root file explorer is good to just go in and delete APKs from /system/app sometimes...
6) A Nandroid backup is a complete backup of your entire OS right? It's essentially like a bare metal/bit by bit backup?? Pretty much... 6/6/2011 8:35:38 PM |

looks like Samsung is in image repair mode.

Quote : | "Atinm, the developer responsible for maintaining CyanogenMod on the Samsung Vibrant and Captivate, recently received a free Galaxy S 2 to develop for. (click to see our hands-on). Don't adjust your screens, you read it right the first time: Samsung gave a phone to a CyanogenMod developer because they want them to work with it.
It seems that Samsung is starting to see the value of having an active development community on their devices, becoming the latest manufacturer to start working with these developers instead of against them. This doesn't mean Samsung will do this with every device, remember Carrier's have a big say in how locked down they want their devices to be, but it's great to see these first few positive steps from one of the world's largest Android manufacturers.
No official word on when nightlies for the Galaxy S 2 will start pushing out (let alone a stable release), but Atinm mentioned that serious development should start tonight." |

there is a theme chooser engine for t-mobile that they've put into more phones using CM.
the APK makes this a theme you can choose in the theme chooser app and so you can switch back and forth to themes as many times as you want.
the ZIP just goes into your /system files and replaces all the files with skinned versions and it's not reversible, only over-writable by flashing another zip or flashing the unskinned ROM back (you don't lose personal data in either case).
the ZIP can skin far more things and looks far more complete, but it breaks when CM updates any part of the system framework - a new ZIP has to be created regularly. the APK and themes in theme chooser don't suffer from that but if you used the zip before, you'll be able to see its limitations, like the lockscreen theming, orange highlights onClick, etc. 6/8/2011 3:16:28 AM |
