Look I understand what you're saying with squandering talent, upperclassmen, etc. I don't necessarily disagree. I think half our team has head problems and that we definitely miss the leadership of Alex & CJW. No one has taken the team over and reeled in CJ. Maybe that's the coach's fault? Who knows. Regardless, I think when assessing whether you've had a "terrible" season you should take all factors into account, not simply "talent."
You lack a true leader, real depth (especially down-low), you have a talented head-case who could play lights out or shit the bed, 3 freshman that you lean on heavily, and lost the best PG in the league for multiple games (and he's still hurting now). To say this is a terrible season just based on talent isn't really accurate in my opinion. Considering all those factors I would say this season wasn't too bad, especially if you take into account that we have the ability to genuinely beat any team if we play up to our level.
All I'm saying is anyone who suffered through NCSU bball from back in the dark days up to now wouldn't be moaning about how "horrible" this season has been. I'm looking forward to seeing how well we do in the tournaments. If we fuck up, well, hell that's part of being an NCSU fan. 3/10/2013 2:51:17 PM |

Coming into this season I was excited, but I wasn't over the top hyped thinking we had a top 5 team. I don't view this season as horrible, it's slightly disappointing when looking at the talent we have, but it was more the national media hyping us up than it was the NCSU fan base.
We needed someone to emerge as a leader, we needed to stay out of any foul trouble, our 3 All-American freshmen had to step up big time, and for CJ to continue to be a go to option like he was at the end of last season. Some things have worked out and some haven't. We still don't have that true on the court vocal leader like CJW and AJ were last season (although I can see Purvis/Lewis developing into that type of player), our freshmen have had great seasons for the most part, and the games where we stay out of foul trouble and CJL shows up we look great, the games those things don't happen we don't look good.
Hopefully we catch fire in the ACC/NCAA tournaments. This team has the potential to do that, but until we get some solid depth and until we have the guy who wants and can take that final shot in a close game, we won't have the type of team that can bring it game in and game out.

I think Brown and Howell are good leaders for the team, but they aren't the type of guys who will have the influence over others in the huddle that I felt like you could see out of CJW and AJ last season. Even when CJW and AJ weren't scoring I loved having them in the game because I felt they had a calming influence on the other players on the court. No one ever seemed to try and put the weight of the world on their shoulders unjustly like CJL has done over the last month plus. 3/10/2013 3:12:37 PM |

If UVA wins, the road to the ACC tourney championship is:
Thursday: Va Tech ~ 2:30 Friday: Virginia ~ 2:30 Saturday: Miami ~ 1:00 Sunday: Duke ~ 1:00
If UVA loses it's the exact same thing minus having to play on Thursday. 3/10/2013 4:18:26 PM |

I think getting to the championship game is very doable, but no way in hell we're beating Duke right now.
Highly doubt Maryland wins tonight, considering UVA is undefeated at home and it's senior night. We'll see though.

i'd be pretty surprised if Leslie didn't make at least the 3rd team
his production over the course of the year has been much more solid than TWW cares to acknowledge
i mean he's 7th in the conference in points per game and 6th in rebounds per game, but reading TWW you'd think he was the worst player ever
anyways, when are the teams/awards announced?

Really don't see how you are still defending Leslie. He cost us the game yesterday and a ACCT bye.
His per game numbers are good but his efficiency numbers are terrible. 3/10/2013 11:34:36 PM |

he is very inconsistent, i don't think anybody would argue that, including people who vote for All-ACC teams
but people just ignore his performances in the previous 2 wins against GT and Wake and focus on his bad games
i blame everyone's golden boy Dick Towel for fucking up the FSU game...it was real necessary for a veteran senior leader to talk shit to an FSU player early in the game and cause the refs to be whistle happy, wasn't it
and i'm not really even defending Leslie, I'm more speaking on how I think the voters will look at his overall per game numbers when deciding on who they vote for on which team, instead of over analyzing every spin move turnover he commits like TWW does

Also, it was very obvious that the team lacked any on court leadership. Just as it is very obvious that Purv/Lewis will be those types of leaders that we need next year. Kind of dissapointed that Scott Wood didn't step up and do this more vocally.

Should have never been that high to begin with.
I also have enough long term memory to compare to much worse seasons, when we were ecstatic to make a run in the NIT.
I also remember that had 2 last second shots not gone in, we would have been #3. The ACC was so unpredictable this year, I'm excited to see how the conference does against other teams in the NCAAT.

cmon, even the most modest predictions would of had us top 3. That would have been A-OK with no after thought.
The whole "blame the media for ranking us" argument is tiring because you know that in reality we should at least have been a top three team with that amount of returning talent.
Just face the music.

I hate to keep piling on CJ, but he's by far reason for the somewhat disappointing season IMO. I think the media assumed (like most of us) that CJ would turn some sort of corner this year. He was playing at an elite level his final 10 games or so last year. If he would have consistently performed at that level, we're borderline unstoppable.
But he didn't. He was the same CJ he's always been -- brilliant one second, retarded the next.
There were other things: Lack of depth ... Purvis not being quite the player we thought he'd be (yet) ... Tyler not being ready early in the year ... Brown getting hurt. But CJ still playing like CJ was the biggest problem.
That said, all's well that ends well. I still don't think we've seen all this team is capable of, which is both exciting and annoying. 3/11/2013 8:21:00 AM |

So both Lunardi and Palm have us in the 8/9 game in the South, with the winner playing #1 seed Louisville...in Lexington, KY.
Granted, a lot can happen in between now and then (our seed should improve with a nice run in the acct {wood gets knocked on}), but still interesting nonetheless 3/11/2013 12:29:10 PM |

we'll either lose on Thursday and get a worse seed (but not have to play a #1 seed in the 2nd game), or win a few ACC tourney games and get a better seed and not have to play a #1 seed in the 2nd game
not worried

What were we ranked in the 2012 ACC Tournament? 5th, and made Semifinals What are we ranked in the 2013 ACC Tournament? 5th
To keep with the whole mantra of improving every year, we have to make the finals this year in the ACC
OR
Make the Sweet 16 again. Though Sweet 16 is same as same as last years result, at least we will do it as a higher seed.
Anything less is a step backwards in season production. We may have a higher talent level this year, but it's not translating to the court like we all hoped. 3/11/2013 12:52:19 PM |

Our rankings and national expectations jumped that high (#6 nation, #1 ACC) when Leslie announced he was coming back. There was too much stock placed on one player. Had the expectation been ACC #3 (which is what I thought we'd be) then there would be little disappointment since we were 2 last second shots away from being that #3.

There's 4 more wins we should have had if the team would have just pushed the slightest bit harder, and based on past performances we can expect that they will come tournament time.
