^^^ That was more sarcasism than anything else, but there is some truth in there. He does have health problems and why would we want to hire someone that could possibly be out for a good part of a season? His health risk is higher than the other two. Plus, I don't think (not that my opinion, nor anyone else on tww's, matters) he would be as good a coach as either Fisher or Johnson.

State's top two candidates, and there is absolutely no doubt that he is very interested in the job. I'm not 100 percent certain right now of the identity of the "other top candidate." It might be someone we know has talked with State in some fashion (Chow, Fisher), or it might be someone else entirely. I'm just not sure about that part right now."

As long as its all hear-say, I am not giving up on the Chin. What he said in the interview is alot like what Roy said about UNC before he took that job after the season at Kansas was over....

Well one of the earlier posts said that Wolfpack officials hoped to hire a new coach by the end of the week. The NFL season doesn't end for several more weeks. So, I doubt Cowher is going to be our coach.

As much as I would love for the chin to come here, it's extremely doubtful now.

Bring on Fisher!

from PackPride's Premium Message Board:

Quote :
"It looks like the NC State coaching search is starting to take form. At this time, we believe six coaches are heavily under consideration, but really no one can be ruled out until an announcement is made. Those six coaches are: Navy head coach Paul Johnson, LSU offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher, Tulsa head coach Steve Kragthorpe, ex-Miami head coach Larry Coker, ex-Georgia head coach Jim Donnan, and Vanderbilt’s Bobby Johnson.

From what we’ve gathered, interviews are underway and Paul Johnson discussed the opening with NC State officials on Monday while Fisher is scheduled to meet with Lee Fowler and Chuck Neinas today or tomorrow.

We believe these interviews are being held at undisclosed locations and not on the NC State campus or even in the state.

While Johnson and Fisher look to be the top two candidates, we believe Steve Kragthorpe, Bobby Johnson, Larry Coker, and Jim Donnan remain under consideration. We continue to hear that advisor Chuck Neinas is high on Fisher, Kragthorpe and Bobby Johnson, and Fowler and others close to NC State are really interested in Paul Johnson, Coker, and Donnan."

whatever happened to Chow's name in the mix? seems like all of the sudden we are fixated on a mediocre Paul Johnson. I mean, Navy seems to have made progress, but who have they been playing???

Do we smell another 7 years of chuck-like mediocrity?

Please...please pick Fisher. I've wanted him from the beginning (since I knew Cowher wasn't likely) and I really would prefer him greatly over Johnson.

Looks like Fowler is afraid to pick an assistant. Which is just dumb. All head coaches have been assistants at some point, and I think Fisher has been around long enough to jump up to the HC positoin. And if he can bring the Auburn DC like he claims, then I don't see what is in question here.

FISHER FOR HEAD COACH!

andro...do you think if that happened at NCSU the paper would give a fuck two years later? it's because it's USNA...it's living under a microscope there...trust me, we had a bad stretch when I was there...one or two people fuck up and it's a huge deal. hell, a couple of kids dropping acid made the front page of the washington post...when was the last time a state student getting busted for pot made the front page of anything?

Haha, our fanbase trips me out.

We were united behind Cowher. No Cowher, so what do we do? We split down the line and are arguing, haha.

It seems about 48% want Paul Johnson, 48% want Jimbo Fisher, and the other candidates hold roughly 4% spread around.

I'm more focused on the fact that we have 2 solid candidates and I still have a feeling that we'll mess this up because of past occurrences.

Hopefully Fowler will get this right and at least choose between Fisher and Johnson.

Personally I want Fisher because of the many pluses he brings, but Johnson is 2nd on my list. The fact that a bunch of washed-up and recently fired coaches are on our list bother me. This should be a 2-horse race, Fisher vs. Johnson.

So Cutcliffe is not a candidate now?

I was hoping we could get him from my #2 team UT. He is a better offensive mind than Fisher. Oh well.

wouldn't it be interesting if we hired fisher, and then Duke hired PJ in the next year or so. Tobacco Road would be a football force in a matter of years and the triangle would become the mecca of all college revenue sports

David Glenn on 620 the Bull just mentioned that Jimbo Fisher had an interview scheduled, but NC State CANCELLED it. No reason why, but it sounds like hes off the list. Very disappointing.

Well, yeah, most likely thats what it means, but really that was Glenns speculation.

I hope we arent dumb enough to cancel an interview with someone until we get a contract signed...we had 3-4 "done deals" back in April and we know how that turned out.
