with regards to stoozing, it depends, some people have awesome credit and can get huge limits (even just cash) at zero percent.
The obvious thing if you decided to do this would be to use less than not utilize more than 30% of your total credit (all cards) of your limit then pay it off after the zero time period (6, 9, 12, 18 months) ended. After that you would just leave the card open, in addition, you wouldn't do this more than once or twice a year (don't want to reduce credit score).
You must have the perfect combination of credit score, card, and offer. A lot of people don't factor in if you do something that lowers your score then the later interest cost can come back to haunt you.
PS. Even meeting these requirements I haven't done this.

This is just a carry trade. Nothing illegal. You are taking advatage of the bank's information ineffeciency. They cannot tell you from the shmoe who will get himself in 60K in debt and then windup paying 120K in interest and charges to get out.
They lose a little on the other end of the carry but they make it up in spades with the irresponsible borrower.3/29/2007 1:41:37 PM |

what about Home Depot (HD)?
i know it pays a nice dividend, and it's trading at a pretty low P/E, and it's a dominant company, and it's been a little depressed by the housing slowdown lately, but I don't quite get why I'm seeing so many analysts rating it as a strong buy...
I mean, it's hovered at a fairly stagnant value for years. What makes them think it's gonna outperform now?
it has things going for it, and I could be convinced to buy it, but not if I'm just buying it for steady buy paltry growth and a nice dividend.

You mean, assuming they can get all this free money out of their home equity with which to make the improvements...oh shit, you mean their home equity doesn't exist anymore because of all the interest only loans?!
Not to mention, HD also supplies the new home construction.
I'm not sure where you get your "theory".4/4/2007 2:50:05 PM |
Mr. Joshua Swimfanfan 43948 Posts user info edit post |
Its a theory that I've heard tossed around often. I put "In theory" because I have my doubts about it too.
On another note, if anyone does any options trading, American Eagle (AEO) is hovering above $30 and the premiums for 2 weeks out are looking pretty good.

I am working on a mutual fund portfolio and don't have the tools that I had with my old company to be able to show 10yr. returns for the proposed hypothetical portfolio. Where can I do this? I have the individual fund returns, but I want to be able to plug in the individual fund names and get an overall return with 3/5/10 year total returns. Is there a place online I can do that? 4/8/2007 10:45:38 AM |

another thing. if you were planning a trip to Vegas, cancel it. stay at home and gamble the tiny biotechs.
on any given day, you can check the nasdaq most actives/unusual volume list and you'll see companies either making out like bandits or losing their shirt.
there are a lot of clinical milestones right about now, and the results/consequences are anybody's guess.
not even the pros are getting it right -- in some cases they talk a lot of shit about a stock because one their's of their customer's trading desks is being killed by outstanding shorts; or they'll make reassurances and upgrades in light of their positions tanking on bad news. 4/10/2007 10:16:23 AM |
