very likely ... was just looking at the radar and thinking about that, sadly enough. in years past when i had to travel wit some of our clients, i hated going to dover because it seemed like it ALWAYS rained, and if the race wasn't postponed, qualifying or practice was. always something there. and the media center felt like it was so far away from the garage ... and it was just plain disgusting because the whole infield remains unpaved because of the horse track. never wear long pants or nice shoes to that track. ...bleh, now i'm going to be late to work. oops. 6/3/2007 7:01:22 AM |

^^ NASCAR Vice Chairman Bill France Passes Away At Age of 74
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 4, 2007) – NASCAR Vice Chairman William C. France, whose leadership helped turn a family-owned company into a national phenomenon, died today at his home in Daytona Beach, Fla. at the age of 74.
France served as NASCAR’s president from 1972-2000, taking over from his father, NASCAR founder William H.G. “Big Bill” France.
In 2000, France – known as “Bill Jr.” – became NASCAR’s CEO and the chairman of the newly created NASCAR Board of Directors.
In October 2003, the torch was again passed, with France’s son Brian France taking over as Chairman and CEO. France became Vice Chairman at that time, whereupon his influence and input remained considerable – and valuable.
“He had a remarkable career and an even-more remarkable life,” said Brian France. “Words cannot express how much he’ll be missed by myself and the rest of our family and by the NASCAR industry overall.”
Mike Helton became NASCAR’s president in 2000. He was the third president in the sport’s history and the first not named France.
“Coming in, I had two big pairs of shoes to fill,” Helton said, talking about Bill Sr. and Bill Jr. “I was more familiar with Bill Jr.’s way of doing business but that didn’t make it any easier. He blazed so many trails for our sport. He was determined to follow the vision of his father while also expanding on that vision. Over nearly four decades, he did a masterful job.”
France is survived by his wife Betty Jane France, NASCAR’s assistant secretary; his son Brian; daughter Lesa France Kennedy, NASCAR’s vice president and assistant treasurer; his brother James C. France, NASCAR’s vice chairman and executive vice president; and three grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are pending. 6/4/2007 3:31:03 PM |

the dirt race turned out to be hell of a lot more exciting than pocono is going to be sunday. bill elliot flipped over on his roof and there was a good 3 way battle for the lead in the main. 6/7/2007 7:15:25 AM |

yeah it was actually a very competitive night. A buddy and I ordered it last night and it was a lot of fun. Jeff Gordon has hardly lost a step on dirt and its been 16 years since his last race on that surface. In the main he drove the hell out of a failing car and finished nose to nose with KB for 2nd and 3rd. Carl Edwards won the feature and Tony Stewart wrecked about halfway through and was unable to finish.
Its great to see those guys get out there on the surface where most of them all began their careers. 6/7/2007 7:51:49 AM |

it was the 3rd annual Prelude to the Dream charity race at El Dora Speedway (owned by Tony Stewart). Its a big charity race to benefit Victory Junction promoted by Stewart with most of nascar, nhra, etc's big names. This year was the first year it was broadcast and it was on HBO PPV.
Even though it was for fun and charity there was a lot of rubbin and a lot of hard racing. 6/7/2007 10:39:36 AM |

Yeah, I bet Kyle would be a good announcer. Plus, he's got such a good voice, if you ask me, I dunno, maybe its because we're from the same place!

There's a race on Fox that has had four cautions, a bunch of wrecks, a couple cars disqualified, a very scary accident where the driver's safety was in question, the defending champion's driving today has been comical and has gone off course four times, 8 cars are out, the worst backmarker team in the field passed the defending champion team on the outside for position, and it had a first-time winner.
It's not the NASCAR race though, it was the F1 one up in Montreal.
Driver Robert Kubica is alert, he may have broken feet though.

You never know what could have happened if the race went to the end...anyone could have won-including Gordon. They really should have thrown the caution long before, they're lucky a rookie didn't gt really hurt with such a wet track.
This is Gordon's year...I dont give a shit what anyone says about NASCAR "helping" him.

Quote : | "IRL at the Rock? Sources inside the IndyCar Series are saying that the series is considering staging an event at the North Carolina Speedway in Rockingham. The track known as the ‘Rock’ was a staple on the NASCAR circuit for almost 40 years. The last Nextel Cup race was staged there in 2004. North Carolina Motor Speedway was built in 1965 as a flat oval. The track was rebuilt in 1969 into the current banked oval. In 1997, NCMS merged with Penske Motorsports, and was renamed North Carolina Speedway. Penske subsequently sold his speedway operations to International Speedway Corporation, the parent company of NASCAR. One of the Cup races at Rockingham was transferred to the new California Speedway in 2004. Shortly after a lawsuit (the "Ferko" Lawsuit) involving NASCAR, ISC, and shareholders in Speedway Motorsports was filed. As a part of the settlement, the second and last Cup date at Rockingham was transferred to Texas Motor Speedway. SMI purchased Rockingham, and agreed that there would be no NASCAR events there while the track was owned by SMI. The ovals are currently being used by NASCAR teams for testing. According to the source, the 17 event IndyCar Series, which currently races on seven tracks used for the Nextel Cup Series and three tracks that stage Busch Series races, is interested in the location of the Speedway in relation to the NASCAR fan base. The IndyCar Series currently shares an event weekend with the Craftsman Truck Series at Texas Motor Speedway and according to the source, officials have been pleased with the event there and might be interested in the same type of weekend at Rockingham.(CupScene.com)(6-12-2007)" |

Quote : | "Dale Earnhardt Jr. on Wednesday will announce his intent to move to Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet in 2008, multiple sources with intimate knowledge of the negotiations told ESPN.com Tuesday on condition of anonymity.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. (8)

Dale Earnhardt Jr. likely won't be Driver 8 anymore, but will he still pilot the Budweiser Chevrolet? Hendrick Motorsports declined comment, and e-mails and calls sent to Earnhardt's representation were not returned. A news conference was scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday to officially announce the deal.
Kelly Earnhardt Elledge, who has handled contract negotiations for her brother, declined to comment on the report.
There was some speculation that the wheels are already in motion to plant Earnhardt in the No. 5 now driven by Kyle Busch before season's end, but Dale Earnhardt Inc. president Max Siegel, contacted by phone Tuesday, discounted that scenario, saying Earnhardt would remain in the No. 8 through season's end.
Sources said there are indications that Busch may not finish the year in the No. 5. Busch is under contract with HMS through the end of next season, and Hendrick had been working to sign the 22-year old driver to an extension.
Jeff Dickerson, an attorney for Busch, told ESPN.com that "a lot of things may or may not occur. Out of respect for Hendrick Motorsports, we're not really sure what's going on yet. But we're trying. I don't think anything's changed yet. I cannot tell you that Kyle is out of the No. 5 for 2008."
Meanwhile, one potential scenario would be Casey Mears moving to the No. 5 and Earnhardt moving to the No. 25 currently being driven by Mears.
Earnhardt announced last month he was leaving Dale Earnhardt Inc. at season's end to compete for a more competitive organization.
Joe Gibbs Racing and Ginn Racing, both considered contenders to land Earnhardt, said Tuesday they are not part of the press conference. Richard Childress, whose team was also thought to have an opportunity to sign Earnhardt, is out of the country.
It is unknown whether sponsor Budweiser will follow Earnhardt to Hendrick." |

This was the only real option possible unless Jr. planned to start his own team. But new teams don't win championships and he would have been better staying with DEI. Wonder who is gonna get the boot over at Hendrick. Gibbs dropped the ball on this one. I guess he has enough money to keep his "morals" and not worry about signing Jr.
On another note. I wont be surprised to see Greg Biffle take Jr's spot next year at DEI.
