i'm pretty sure that hurts with Allen..........Allen wants immediate PT and he's not going to get that with Hill there next year. I would be shocked if UNC didnt get Allen. If we win on the field however and UNC bombs i think we can steal him though.

Manning to decide next week:

http://wral.com/sports/blogpost/1634541/

Now it's down to From the article, sounds like he's showing VT a LOT more interest than previously.

UNC will tank next year (4-8), they have zero QB's and zero RB's with experience/skill. At least we have Evans who has experience and chalked up a pretty good defense in FSU and some good balls against BC and some decent games after that, just no OL. UNC also has no proven RB's, I think their starter had 7 carries last season. No QB (unless Paulus is the next P Rivers as a true frosh) and no RB = disaster, I could care less about great wide outs with nothing around them and a much improved defense. That said, doesn't mean we beat them sadly enough, as the talent on paper never matters when we get together but if they win 5, I'll give them credit because they will deserve it.

We won't get this kid, trying to get in late in the game with the likes of UNC (or Georgia for that matter) is nearly impossible....that and Hill will get all the reps in 08

^ Saw part of some UNC drills the other day. Take it FWIW but Paulus threw a pretty horrible pick. Granted it was just one series but he didn't look good in the "one-on-one" WR/CB drills.

more on Glennon: ESPN's rating and evaluation:

Quote :
"Evaluation: Glennon is one of the best pure pocket passers this class has to offer. He has outstanding size and the frame to add much needed bulk. He has very good, borderline great arm strength and can put the ball anywhere he needs to on the field. Shows a quick release. Mechanics and overall delivery are all smooth and consistent. At times his throws will appear effortless with just a flick of the wrist. Does a nice job of selling play fakes, a classic pocket passer who can beat most defenses with his arm, as long as he has time to throw. Can throw off his back foot. Shows ability to lead his receivers. He's one of the most accurate passers in the 2007 class. Shows great zip on deep out, shows touch on vertical ball and does an outstanding job of leading his receivers on crossing routes. Seems to understand timing and when he gets into a rhythm, you can see it in his demeanor and he becomes very confident. Obviously with a player of his size, mobility is going to be somewhat of a concern, but he does show good feet, a quick set-up in the pocket and enough presence to move around and by a second passing chance. He is never going to "wow" you with much athleticism and he is really lean and lanky right now-- needs to be protected and add weight or durability problems could arise with too many shots. Overall, Glennon has the goods as far as physical tools are concerned and in the right scheme he could be fanastic. Show intangibles, understands the game and is polished for a player at this stage.

Notes: Older brother Sean is a quarterback at Virginia Tech. 2006: Completed 123 of 205 attempts (60-percent) for 1,662 with 18 touchdowns and five interceptions. Also considering "

p.s. ranked as an 82 overall and #6 qb in the country by espn.com

even higher praise for brandon barnes on espn.com:

#4 ranked "athlete" and #23 overall on espn150:

Quote :
"Evaluation: Barnes is an excellent dual-threat running back with dangerous skills as both a runner and wide receiver. Defenses will be looking for him the second the huddle breaks. He aligns in a variety of spots and is used as a slot, wide out and in the backfield as one of three backs in a version of the Wing-T. He has good height but lean bulk. Is a shifty back with very good body control and balance. A slashing runner at his best when he gets some momentum in the backfield and can make a quick cut upfield. He shows very good vision and patience as a runner. Plants and pivots quickly and has smooth hips -- he's a very fluid athlete. He has great hands and is one of the most natural receivers of all the backs in this class. Has quick hands, extends away from his frame to pluck and can snag on the move without any wasted motion. Gets upfield immediately after the catch and has the elusiveness and foot quickness to make poeple miss in space. Barnes is truly at his best in the open field, and you want to get him the ball in space so he can take a short catch and turn it into a huge play. Same goes for his ability as an outside runner. As much as you like Barnes' overall versatility, the concern has to be that he can be straight-lined. He has very good speed, but we wonder if he has a true secodn gear. Overall, Barnes also has upside as a safety and, in time, as a return specialist. He is athletic and hard to handle in space and a natural playmaker with the ball in his hands.

Notes: 2006: Rushed for 518 yards and scored five touchdowns... Caught 10 passes for 259 yards and four touchdown passes... Returned two kickoffs for touchdowns...Intercepted five passes. Reportedly holding 40 offers (June 2007). Also considering Notre Dame, Michigan, North Carolina, Florida, Georgia..."

needless to say the start of this recruiting season has been unbelievable; two guys in the top 6 at their position and top 60 overall prospects; if TOB continues to get this kind of athlete here and adds his discipline and coaching ability we could really be great in a few years

man we need Manning bad...............if we got one player this year i hope we get him

news floating around suggests he will commit next week and that state "probably" is his leader right now (we all know how the whitley thing turned out though)

i have a feeling though that if Manning commits here and we get a few more in-state prospects and we get whitley to a few football games then we maybe able to steal one away from VT. Whitley is an impressionable guy and if he wanted to go to state all along and switched b/c of a one day visit then whos to say it wont happen again.

I've always thought that the 3-4 is more effective in college because the abundance of 'tweener' recruits. You dont have to distinguish between DE or OLB.

Manning Press Conference set for Friday at 1:00 - per Packpride & Rivals.

I still havn't seen whether or not he visited UT or not. He did say that his decision was coming down to state, clemson, and vt though, so I doubt it.

just incase yall havent heard there is an interesting quote from an article on T. Manning

when asked a/b what his favorite animal is TM replied "o it definatly has to be a tiger" or something to that degree. Its an interesting comment anyways and i think its just to add more fuel for the presser. TM has wanted to keep his decision silent so he could announce it at the PC on friday so i highly doubt he would announce his decision 4 days before his PC.

If anything i belive that quote means he wont pick Clemson

The question was also, between a wolf, a tiger, and a hokie what is your favorite animal.

weird question and I agree I don't think TM would have done anything to spoil his PC, especially this soon. I wouldn't read anything into the question or his answer.

Article from FayObserver, author thinks it's the Pack for Manning. Take it with a grain of salt though, I mean he just seems to be stating his opinion based on the info everybody already has.

Ex-QB ready for new job
O'Brien calls TE 'the most selfless person on the football team right now'
Chip Alexander, Staff Writer

RALEIGH - N.C. State's Marcus Stone spends some of his free time outside football customizing cars, installing sound systems. The Wolfpack's senior tight end calls it a hidden talent.

"When I was little, I was into stereo systems," Stone said. "I started messing around, trial and error, learning it that way."

Recently, Stone finished a system for Pack teammate Bradley Pierson, a senior place-kicker. Stone said the setup in Pierson's truck is much like the one in his own Expedition, with 13-inch speakers and enough amps to, well, rattle the windows.

"It's pretty loud," Stone said, smiling.

Stone is working on another project -- building his football career. Pack upperclassmen report today for practice -- the start of Stone's fifth year. And what a career it has been: three offensive coordinators, two head coaches, one position change

Butler High defensive back Eddie Whitley, who committed to Virginia Tech, will likely miss his senior season because of knee surgery.

Whitley tore his anterior cruciate ligament at a camp in June. He had surgery last Wednesday. His two college finalists -- Virginia Tech and N.C. State -- knew about the injury and would honor their scholarship offers, Butler coach Mike Newsome said.

"The surgery went well and he's expected to make a full recovery," Newsome said.

Whitley has an slim chance to return for the playoffs, depending on how rehabilitation progresses, Newsome said.

I do believe I called that one ^ ... but my source said we would only honor the scholarship offer if it was a full recovery, and the offer would therefore have that contingency. Maybe VTech didn't, and thus he committed to them.

I think thats why we didnt make a push for him really towards the end there

His injury probably wont let him have a full recovery, some of those tears never do return you to even 50%.

I think we just saw that there were and are bigger fish and healthier fish in the ocean of recruits and let him take another bait.

Lots of good about Manning though, the best part is some of our guys will be there...remember no one was there to cover the last presser.

Man, I can only imagine having Manning, Maddox and Beasley for three or four years. All run a good 4.6 or less 40 and all are at least 6'2, 205+ pounds. That's a good blend of size and speed all over.

maybe our lack of recruitment made him take that last second visit. I know that sounds like something a UNC person would say but it seems odd he took a visit that late in his recruitment when he said he already had a decision and was going to announce. I wanted Whitley as bad as the next person but this does have George Bell written all over it. Didn't he try to come back for his HS playoffs too?

^ we have like 8 commitments.....I've always enjoyed watching linebackers at FSU and Miami run around and fly to the ball and make plays, rather than get lost in space and have no clue what's going on, on other teams . tOSU's LB's always seem to have a nose for the ball as well.
