You have serious issues if you think the difference b/w American and Chinese gymnast bodies was due to diet and training. The only thing that accounts for the the body type of the Chinese girls is a lack of hormones.

In the All Around men's gymnastics a Japanese gymnast went flying off the rings and fell pretty hard. He got up. Looked pretty bad for his legs and neck though. Probably could have been a lot worse. Some of the gymnasts have been complaining about the grips on the rings.
