A valeo rope I ordered just arrived in the mail yesterday. I think it was $9. Not sure how impressed i am with it yet, but i haven't crimped it to size yet so Ill let you know what i think.

I am debating between doing a Crossfit workout or a "beach muscle" workout today.I am thinking the beach muscles are going to win out. what say you WWcrossfit peeps?
2/19/2011 10:03:10 AM
boo beach muscles...do a CrossFit WOD and then finish yourself off with some DB Curls or somethingWittman7 rounds15 KB Swings, 52lb15 Power Cleans, 95lb15 Box Jumps, 24"16:49

well I did 4 WODs this week that were all pretty cardio intensive. did the beach muscles today superset style5x6 overhead squats (185#)/5x10 pull ups4x10 bench press (225#)/4x10 bicep curls5x6 deadlift (275#)/5x max set of pushups3x max set of dipsfeelin good. wish I couldve gone heavier deadlift, but the people at the Y give you dirty looks if the weight makes the slightest noise returning to the floor
2/19/2011 2:15:12 PM
Five rounds for time of:45 pound barbell Overhead walking lunges, 50 feet21 BurpeesTIme: 15:57Had to do turnarounds twice on each set of lunges as space was an issue at the Y. May have done 55# instead of 45# as the small barbell I was loading weights on was suspiciously heavy. After months of cajoling, my wife actually gave CF a shot today. She exceeded my expectations and finished the modified/scaled WOD! Best part is she admitted she liked it afterwards.
2/20/2011 3:56:56 PM
Crossfit is great for women. If they can adjust to the intensity, they see great results.
2/20/2011 7:07:28 PM
I don't know what you're talking about. The buddy lee rope I got was like 12 bucks.PS-This is what passes as fitness, guys. Wow people are getting scammed in personal training nowadays...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJhf_VGVI0M

"Cindy"Complete as many rounds in 20 minutes as you can of:5 Pull-ups10 Push-ups15 Squats15 rounds + 5 pull-ups. It's amazing how close to 50% output of the elite benchmarks posted under the WODs I am each time. Hopefully I can get closer to 75% as the year progresses.^That was my initial thought as well, so don't take me for a pessimist. My comment was more geared to the inevitably exorbitant cost associated with taking this class. Yes, kudos to them for getting off the couch, but paying/accepting money for this instruction is a travesty in my opinion.
2/21/2011 2:01:50 PM
When they fail to get results and quit out of frustration, then what? It's okay...at least they tried. People need to take more responsibility for themselves and do some research before signing up for whatever fad class they see at the gym.
2/21/2011 3:05:52 PM
^that was a little more eloquent.Pack, are you competing in the opens/sectionals? Your times look pretty good.I saw a few posts back that you WOD'd at CF-Clayton. Thoughts?
2/21/2011 4:45:26 PM
I usually workout at CF Durham or Lifestyle Family Fitness where I'm a trainerI've only been to CF Clayon once, since my friends own it...great place. And yes, I plan on competing in the opens.

weighed in at 212.2 yesterday. I was ~235 at my heaviest about a year ago and 220 one month ago.thank you Crossfit
2/22/2011 8:15:29 AM
I'll try to find out how much that class costs. Sadly, it's the gym I use to CrossFit when I am not at a box; I can only afford 2x/week right now and do the rest on my own. Luckily the gym USED to be our old space before we moved into our own box, so it still has many of the equipment used for CF movements, and a lifting platform, so I am grateful.Trust me as far as personal training, been there done that where I spent one on one training for 10 session @ $250 before CF existed. What did I get from it? Nothing substantial. Moved from station to station, but very slow because before each "station" she needed to show me how to perform them. Basic crunches on a ball and floor. Presses with dumb bells, etc. Standard stuff for beginners I guess. But shit that I can do on my own. Very regretful about that decision.
2/22/2011 12:00:37 PM
Did you ask her to do something different with you and have that not work? Or did you keep on doing the things she was showing you, that are probably what most people DO want, and only raise the complaint afterward?

Was driving down Maynard in cary today and saw a banner for Crossfit Cary opening. The irony (or maybe not) was that they were opening right across the street from Forged Fitness Cary, which I am pretty sure used to be a CF affiliate.
2/24/2011 9:47:24 AM
I think Crossfit Cary has been in the athletic lab for a while, but I might be wrong. At least I remember hearing about it a few months ago. On that note, I got a month pass to there in a silent auction earlier this week. I know jack about Crossfit other than a few of the workouts I've looked up and done myself, so I'm a little scurred but also excited to try it out.

They got upset because other CrossFit gyms opened "near" them and apparently in their original agreement they were promised that this wouldn't be the case. Obviously CF became more popular and HQ wanted to allow more gyms without limiting the area....FF got pissed and deactivated. I like the trainers a lot. I recommend it to anyone.
2/26/2011 5:51:55 PM
They were very condescending to the handful of people that I know who checked it out.Again, I have no experience with them myself. Is that where you work out?
2/26/2011 8:26:07 PM
yes, in Cary. cant speak for Raleigh. I never seen any condescending attitudes from trainers, but I would say that it is a pretty close knit group as a whole and I can see how that can be misconstrued. the regulars that work out with me are a nice mix of people - from the super crossfitters, to the housewives, to the new people to the people who just enjoy the challenge.
2/26/2011 8:53:01 PM
I was a member at the raleigh FF back in 2007--mainly for the BJJ. I can definitely see how Culbreth and others could be seen as condescending. I come from a military family, so it kind of reminded me of home more than anything. Just a no-nonsense, do work kind of approach. Pretty classic CF attitude if you ask me. I actually prefer to be trained by someone like that rather than some hand-holder. Hang Power Snatch3-3-3-3-370-80-90-100-115(last set done as a regular snatch)

thank you sir...I have changed my diet (nothing extreme, just more "aware") but I credit the workouts with most of the results.
3/3/2011 9:51:00 AM
THe other thing to consider is that you have probably also added considerable muscle mass which makes the 22 lb loss that much more impressive.
3/3/2011 10:06:39 AM
Do you guys do the standard crossfit warm up? I try to warm up doing stuff I tend to need more improvement in i.e. snatches, double unders, pistol squats, pull ups, etc.
3/3/2011 10:55:48 AM
I do dynamic stretching, "skills" work (like you described) and a light warm up everyday
3/3/2011 11:10:00 AM
I do that burgeneor(sp) warmup among other things
3/3/2011 11:24:00 AM
I usually do some double unders, ohs, pullups and dips. Add some stretching. But since im going during my lunch hour, my warmup is probably not as dynamic as it should be.

Rxed is 65? Scaled, is whatever right?! uhhhh not for me I really suck at snatches (balance and speed), so safely for me would be 55 as far as where Im at right now.
