I think we'll end up trading church and a pitcher for Dunn.

Amazingly, there are a lot of Mets fans happy about this trade.

As a Braves fan, I am thrilled.

Time to go streaking

ESPN has a posting saying Tommy Hanson was optioned to Class A Myrtle Beach. He was supposed to start today against Colorado. What happened?

Hanson isn't being demoted; the Braves just needed an extra bullpen arm and Hanson wasn't going to start again until after the All-Star break anyway.

back to .500. 4.5 back of the wild card leading Giants and about to start a series with them.

It sucks that the one time this season the Braves start to play consistently good baseball, the Phillies get fucking white hot and win 8 in row. Hopefully the Phillies SP will catch up with them soon.

i like the moves we've made so far. Church >> Frenchy and McLouth has settled CF down for us. G Anderson is hitting well and Prado has just been a damn terror of late. Escobar had a fantastic series against the Mets. The lineup actually looks decent now compared to the start of the year when we had freakin Schafer, Frenchy, kelly johnson in it

^ I am surprised the Braves have been so willing to shop Escobar around. Yeah he hasn't fully filled his potential, but with his recent hot streak, his OPS is around ~840 or so and that is not bad for a SS, especially in the post roid era.

Supposedly the Braves were in talks involving Escobar, prospects/money to the A's for Matt Holliday, even though Holliday has a lower OPS than Escobar.

The position the Braves need a power bat at is 1B. They should target someone like Aubrey Huff or Russell Branyan for some immediate pop and ship Kotchman off to the bench. Granted the defense would suffer.

If the rest of the division is healthy, and if the Marlins young pitching gets a little better, it'll be like the NL West but people will care. Nah not really, we already have better pitching and hitting, but it will definitely be the best pitching in baseball.

Also, I predict that Tommy Hanson will never lose a game.

Great win, i really think we are coming together as a team. We are hitting with runners in scoring position, playing decent defense and our pitching has been great as usual. Hanson is a stud, im glad i just traded for him in my fantasy league. I wonder if he can get the rookie of the year, with only playing like 60% of the season.

Also we are only 3.5 games back from San Fran. If the phillies continue to play the way they are, i think the only chance we have for the playoffs is the wild card

that is good...but SF is no longer the Wild Card leaders....

Colorado is...

we are 4 games back in the Wild Card chase.

Only person that has been struggling lately is McLouth but at least his OBP is staying up there with all of the walks he is taking.

glad we got these two wins. maybe the bats will stay hot, but i'd really love to see lincecum vs jurrjens tomorrow. probably not a lot of scoring in that one.

[Edited on July 21, 2009 at 8:58 PM. Reason : note: we haven't gotten both wins, so if we lose it's my fault.]

Shocking stat = Braves lead the majors in runs scored in July!

Seriously tonight's game should be good. Hopefully we can get a couple of runs off Lincecum and Jurrjens will pitch another great game. Please shit ass Cubs, please beat the Phillies tonight you pieces of fucking shit.

The Braves are also leading the league in batting average for the month of July.

I went to Thursday and Friday's games against the Mets last week. Thursday's seats were horrible and I was miserable the whole game. Had some drunk homeless looking guy acting a fool during the whole game and then people around me smelled like they hadn't taken a bath in a couple days.

Friday's seats were sweet. Section 107 Row 18. It was nice having someone take your order and deliver it to my seat.

BTW...Maddux put on some weight.

i'm not really worried about the rockies or giants, but the cubs are ahead of us too, and i'm pretty sure they're gonna get better too. we probably won't make it, but we can hope

well, we got lincecum out of the game after 5 innings. Jurrjens is throwing VERY well tonight as well. 7 k's and only 1 runner allowed through 6

guaranteed a series win against the Giants now after beating Tim Lincecum for the first time ever. Great game by Jurrjens.

5.5 back of the phillies now

wow. i was happy with the series win, but to go ahead and beat probably the best pitcher in baseball is awesome. yeah, the giants hitters suck, so jurrjens killing them we had a good shot anyways, but honestly its not very often that lincecum gives up 4. love it, hope it keeps up.

Escobar is arguably the hottest hitter in baseball right now. Dude is raking. That pitch he hit last night on Lincecum was impressive - turning around a high fastball to nearly dead center.

Bullpen is still not pitching great lately. Blew two games at Colorado before the break and then last night Gonzalez allows one inherited runner to score and Soriano gives up a run. As long as the offense continues to roll, our SP can go deeper and hopefully give the bullpen more rest.

lmao at this guy on First Take who just said that the Frenchy for Church deal was an upgrade for the Mets.

Skip Bayless just picked us to win the division though. Said our pitching was too much for the Phillies

Damn shitty bullpen fucked us again today although Kawakami (who most definitely should be banished to long relief if/when Hudson returns) caused Bobby to have to go to the pen early today.

Everytime Moylan pitches now too, the other pretty much scores. Today all of the runs were unearned, but still he is allowing people to get on base at a embarassing clip. Hopefully Gonzalez is not hurt bad - heard he took a liner off the left arm.

It wasn't entirely the bullpen's fault yesterday.

Ishikawa bunts. Kotchman thinks about throwing to 2nd and then throws a soft toss to Prado covering first. Ishikawa was safe. Later that inning, someone else bunts and Moylan thinks about throwing to third but then has to fire to first where K Johnson was covering. The throw was pretty much at the runner's head and was almost impossible to catch. K Johnson drops it and can't find the ball right away which lets the Giants score the winning run.

Later on on a single to right field, Church throws to 3rd and Jones tries to tag the runner before he has the ball and it gets by him.

Can't really make up any ground in the wild card race this weekend since SF and Col are playing.... Maybe Pujols can tear apart the Philly pitching though

^^ True - Braves defense let them down Mets style yesterday. Still the pen is allowing entirely too many runners on base lately which usually leads to trouble.

Need the Cards to pound the Phils this weekend and we've got to just keep winning each series.
