ok i had to respond to this, obviously it is ridiculous to say that there is some huge ref conspiracy
but it is also ridiculous to ignore the fact that great players get the calls in college and nba. it isnt intentional, it is b/c basketball, especially nba bball, is a fast game and a great player is more likely to get the benefit of the doubt that he was fouled when it is close. it is a sort of unconscious bias.2/18/2009 9:50:02 PM |

But in the heat of the game, bitching about individual calls is waranted. Its not like i'm gonna start a fuck the refs thread after the game. We lost because Fells didn't show up and McCauley played like a douche

i hate patting myself on the back for winning money when my team loses
still...WE ARE STILL AN IMPROVING TEAM
we have played better the last couple weeks and our first half tonight showed that...but ref calls, lack of depth, fatigue, etc got the best of us
UNC is a very good team, nobody expected a win, but that doesnt mean we cant still go 7-9 in conference and make noise in the acc tourney 2/18/2009 9:54:24 PM |

him and javi were the only ones to really show up
maybe costner is the first few minutes

what did Costner do wrong on his foul at the beginning of the half? I mean, looking at it over and over I don't see anything wrong with it. If anything, it's a no-call situation. 2/18/2009 9:56:45 PM |

they did hit a lot of shots
but they hit a lot of runout layups off of turnovers that should have been called fouls. 3 at least...two big ones.
whatever...I didnt expect to win. We played well for the most part but you can't have those mental lapses like we did early in both periods. 2/18/2009 9:59:38 PM |

the final score was closer than the 2nd half play indicated
however
we should come out of this with some positives...the first half was solid...not only were we down 3 at the half, but we showed we were capable of making a run at the end of the half...we were too mentally/physically drained to do that in the 2nd half, but CJ hit a few 3's, Javi continues to look solid as does Tracy, and even though Fells and Costner didn't really show up much in the 2nd half (Fells didnt even in the 1st), they are still capable players who can step up and will step up in future games
going into the game, i expected a UNC win, but a closer game than the 1st game...the score indicated that, but i think our team did too
We lost to a very good UNC team by single digits when our 2 most proven scorers either didnt show up until 2 minutes in the game, or only showed up big in the 1st half...dont give up dont ever give up you motherfuckers

neat how once we get some decent guard play, our big men go the crapper (well, just mccauley, so not really).
tracy smith is a beast.
javi was starting to look like atsur with that pick and roll. it's a shame he wasn't as aggressively looking for his shot in the second half. although unc did stick to him like glue. i hope javi's nice shooting is a sign of things to come and not just a fluke.
cj is going to be good. has a good shot.
this game just reinforces my opinion that we'll be in better shape next year. we won't miss mccauley. we won't miss fells. we'll miss costner if he leaves.
i look forward to the athleticism we're getting next year with brown and howell. 2/18/2009 10:03:28 PM |

I will just never understand how Hansbrough leaning into the defender every single time is a foul, but oh well... refs didn't lose us this game. We played decent but our defense in the 2nd half is really pathetic.
And Degand looked like he was dribbling on ice the entire game... I don't understand how Mays can't even get on the floor when Javi's backup is playing like Degand was today. 2/18/2009 10:06:18 PM |

if you watched the last 3 or 4 games before tonight's game, you would never say we won't miss fells
and if you've watched mccauley during his time here you wouldnt say that about him either
but i understand, its right after a loss, emotions are high 2/18/2009 10:09:55 PM |

what does mccauley lead?
he's a good leader at creating division amongst team members by uniting them against nba draft picks.
no way he's a good team leader though. he tries to. but he's terrible at it.

no, i've been saying that about mccauley on here all season. he does a good job of getting rebounds, but he also does a good job of losing them because he's out jumped by everyone on the opposing team.
with the fells thing, yeah, that's more of a emotional response to tonight's game. but i personally won't miss him that much, because i know what a waste of talent he is, for being such a mental case who can't figure out how to use it.

McCauley has a decent inside low post game, and is a GREAT passer...he's not physically a beast but don't hate just cause he's been in a little slump...theres a reason Lowe is starting Fells and McCauley 2/18/2009 10:11:39 PM |

I question the move to go zone in the second half. We turned a 3-point UNC halftime lead to a 12-point UNC lead in two minutes. Our players got deflated after that and the game was over. By the time we went back to man-to-man, they got hot and nothing could stop them.
I still like the way we played. A few more calls, a few less turnovers and this game would have gone down the wire. The team with the better PG play won. 2/18/2009 10:12:38 PM |

he's got good vision, he hasn't lost that...he's 4th on the team in assists, and 2nd amongst non point guards
and yes i do think he has been in a "little slump"...even though he still LEADS THE TEAM IN REBOUNDS and is 2ND IN SCORING...he scored single digits the last 3 games (little slump) after scoring 25 points against Va Tech
