^ TJB627 and i were discussing that after the game. I kinda thought Jussi's goal was slightly more epic given that it got us the win and didn't send the game into OT, but I wasn't there in the building to see Staal's goal in 06 so that might be part of it.
They were both pretty damn awesome though. 4/22/2009 8:49:35 AM |

The funny thing about Brodeur crying like a bitch is that the entire crowd of Canes fans thought WE were getting fucked over by the refs late in the game. There were at least 3 blatant penalties not called late in that game that even the announcers said should have been called and the whole crowd chanting "ref you suck" after 2 within about a 20 second stretch.
I hesitate to bitch about the refs in hockey because shit happens much faster than in other sports, but I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to tackle a guy from behind on a break away....I was also unaware that you could slightly tap a guy off balance and be called for boarding...which ultimately led to NJ's game tying goal. Whatever those bastards got what they had coming. 4/22/2009 9:10:29 AM |

you're right, which is why I said the goalie is only really "protected" inside the crease. Outside the crease, it's up to who initiates the contact, which last night was certainly the in-family adulterer. Jokinen wasn't even looking at the goal, he was doing his best to maintain a position to screen the shot and since he was ~4 ft outside the crease, had no reason to care about where Marty was. Brodeur initiates contact, doesn't get the call that he thinks he should, and proceeds to pull a "me, Jeff O'Neill" with his twig.4/22/2009 10:55:14 AM |

^^^^Amazing picture.
And Holy Buzzard Beating Goal Batman! I went wild at Sammy's when I saw this, I wish I would've been there, but am just a wee bit broke.
And though interference can occur outside of the crease, it has to be more blatant than the bump that occurred. Brodeur initiated the contact in my honest opinion, Jokinen did his job staying outside of the crease and Brodeur hit him hoping he'd get the call.
I also don't understand how Sportscenter can't have it as number one, same with all of the homers voting in the poll too about it or some stupid baseball play. I mean what's more dramatic getting tagged out by jumping over someone or scoring the latest winning goal in NHL playoffs history in regulation? I mean honestly, people are stupid in this country, baseball is not exciting, that whole sequence and game was one of the most amazing things I've ever witnessed even if it was on TV and not in person.

The way I look at this is if the refs call it, then essentially you allow the goalies to skate out and 'earn' a penalty. I seriously don't see how he or the announcers can see that as a penalty. If cam ward could skate out of his crease, let a guy run into him and get a penalty, well we'd be set! 4/22/2009 11:06:12 AM |

Can we hire Sean Avery for Game 5 just to piss Marty off? There is only one thing I like more than watching the Rangers win a game and that is to watch Mary Brodeur cry like a girl after getting hit or losing...

^^^ Bricks = Towels now? How are we white trash? Everytime I drive through NJ I always see more white trash than a landfill. I just hate how they try to insult our intelligence, when they obviously can't talk about anything. I think that towels could be taken two ways when thrown at the players. The first being celebratory reasons for the obvious amazingness that was that game or the second being to help Brodeur wipe his tears up after the end of the game, which I think is a better way to look at it 4/22/2009 11:15:09 AM |

at first i took it as an expression of celebration, but as they skated off, it looked more and more like the towels were being thrown at the players (i watched on tv). if they were throwing towels at the opposing players, that is pretty low class.

Goalies get to dish out small slashes and throw small punches in front of the net. It's just the way it is. They're constantly vunerable, and those things help them maintain a decent bubble to prevent contact as much as possible.4/22/2009 1:35:03 PM |

oh no, i can dig that. BUT.....hes already been called for slashing once against Staal(showing that he actually got caught)....and how about the time that Cole was pushed into him(getting a stupid penalty) and he hits cole, then pushes him to the ice. Not to mention i saw once in game 2 or 3 where someone was on the ice in front of him and he pushed at their head with his stick.
