I assumed KaYaK was joking about the spoiler on a film about historical events. Ones that happened. In history.

Is there any point at which popular opinion and your own esoteric opinion meet? Ever?

There are plenty of points where they meet, yes. For instance, I love the Beatles.

The fact that a billion people love Titanic doesn't keep it from being a sappy, generic love story, or Avatar from being a piece of garbage wrapped in the prettiest paper in film history.

Is Titanic's gross being adjusted for inflation in all these comparisons?

i think it will be in theaters for a while, cause no one cares about avatar on dvd, everyone wants the 3-d experience
but i hate to say after seeing it once, i dont care to sit through the whole thing again

Avatar sold a lot more 2-d tickets than 3-d

there were more 2-d viewings than 3d...most people won't waste money on "3d" in a regular theater

IMAX is the only way to go for that

The girl I went to see it with the first time said that she wants to see it again but only in 2-D. She didn't see what all the fuss was about in the 3-D version. To be fair, we also didn't see it in an IMAX. Damn you Greensboro!

No

But if they did that then movies like Gone with the Wind and Star Wars would probably be untouchable. Gone with the Wind had 1.5 billion in just domestic when adjusted for inflation.

It's even more toolish to refer to people like this.

Like calling James Cameron

Jim Cameron

Or William Shatner

Bill Shatner.

It's not clever or cool and you look like a fucking idiot when you do it.

It is ok if you know the person and thats how they like to be addressed, but in cases like this you just come across looking retarded.

Ohhhhh, so THAT'S why you spend all your time on a message board letting us primitive, unenlightened Neanderthals know what is good and what is bad, offering your two cents to noone that needs it. See, because I just thought someone that so clearly had the answers as to what makes for high art and what doesn't would make a living out of writing about that kind of thing professionally, but now I see; you don't do that because money isn't important. Well thank god you're here, because we were just sittin' here all dumbfounded by all the pretty lights and loud noises in Avatar. Thanks for letting us know that it actually sucks, we were almost tricked into being entertained.

I don't think the financial numbers are what will make this film memorable (although those statistics ARE quite the feat, considering the economy we're living in). What will make this film memorable for years to come is that was an unabashed BIG blockbuster, in every sense of that word, and yet it's visuals are still unlike anything anyone has ever seen on the big screen. It's the same kind of thing that made Star Wars a classic (even though I've never actually seen it ).

had a predictable, feel good story

great visuals and creativity

all and all I was very entertained, and that is what matters most

best motion picture, nah son.

**SPOILER**

one thing that bugged me was that the dick colonel made a point to say the na'vi were very hard to kill, yet they got mowed down like any other organic lifeform. i was expecting guys to empty full clips into them and they'd still be moving forward

***END SPOILER***
