You should get that in Charlotte, between ESPN2 and MLBN

Does Ernie Johnson normally do the games or is he just doing it cause Strasburg is pitching?
I know all the Turner stations are Atlanta based, but I haven't watched enough games on this channel recently enough to know if he is the regular commentator 6/28/2010 7:17:05 PM |

he does most games i think, he did one the other night for the braves (easy since Turner is in ATL, etc)

He's been doing pbp on Peachtree games since the end of the NBA season, he did one or two games in April
Such an upgrade over clownshoes Chip Caray, who still does SS and FSN games
Smoltz was doing color before Johnson came back, haven't seen him since though

there are probably 20-30 MLB players that wouldve beaten that throw
Melky got to 2nd pretty quick on the double, the 3rd base coach just fucked up on the last play

The kid is good, no doubt, but I just wish the media would give it some time before they start comparing him to the next Nolan Ryan. I mean he has started what 5 games? Kerry Wood was pretty damn dominate at the beginning of his career too. Let's see if he stays injury free. Of course they also said Heyward was the next Hank Aaron after one at bat 6/28/2010 9:00:32 PM |

The Nats really suck behind Strasburg. I'm gonna feel bad when that kid racks up 10 losses when he gets the DP ball and his team just sucks. I mean, you gotta turn that one, routine. And you have to hit the cut off man to keep them at 1st and 2nd so that right there doesn't happen. 6/28/2010 9:24:41 PM |

How are all four of those runs earned?
I know you can't assume the double play, and I know a pitcher who takes over doesn't get the luxury of the presumed actual outs based on errors before he entered the game
But I'm not seeing why Strasburg gets all four of those as earned there

Says 4 on the espn box score, but I guess the in progress scores are always subject to change
Regardless, if he gets that DP, Hinske's sac fly is just a flyout that ends the inning and its still 0-0 6/28/2010 9:39:30 PM |

3 ER on mlb.com, fuck ESPN and their 15 second ads on gametracker
I think the assumption is that (like you said) the DP isn't a gimme and with all the baserunners after that error the runs were earned. 6/28/2010 9:44:17 PM |

^^ Ernie wins. He predicted the loss and more than 1 ER. I still do not understand why you cannot assume a double play on certain error like last night. It is not like Glaus would have beaten that out. Just a weird rule in baseball IMO.
If the Nats do turn that DP, then Strasburg likely would have gotten out of that inning and then who knows what could of happened so thank you Desmond for your horribly timed error.
Also saw this piece of gold today on the AJC:
Quote : | "Kenshin Kawakami is headed to the bullpen to open a spot for Jair Jurrjens, who is finally fit to pitch again for the Braves.
Manager Bobby Cox announced after Monday night’s game that Jurrjens would start Wednesday’s series finale against the Nationals and that Kawakami would be the odd man out of the rotation. " |
See you every 8-10 days KK. You'd better learn spanish so you can talk to Jesse Chavez while both of you rot away in the pen waiting for a chance to pitch in a blowout.
Hopefully JJ comes back strong. Also Diaz will be activated to take Heyward's place while he is on the DL.6/29/2010 8:04:36 AM |

i thought he looked impressive but the braves were putting the bat on the ball all game. Then you could literally see he was soaked through his uniform in that 7th inning. Add that to getting frustrated after 4 straight balls to chipper and you could just see him lose his confidence. Thought it was a great night out for the Bravos.
Definitely excited to have JJ back this week.6/29/2010 8:10:52 AM |
