i think we beat them 4-2 and 2-0 last year. we were tied 2-2 until late in the first game and we didn't net our second goal in the second game until about 10 minutes left.

^Yeah I remember how you guys got up 2-0 and then blew the lead only to win 4-2 late. The best one was your guys 3-1 (?) win over them in the spring with the diving header own goal that helped seal it for your team. 2/19/2011 4:19:38 PM |

hahaha, i forgot about that! that was definitely the best Hibernian/Newcastle game.
either that one or the only game we won in our first year in Men's league... we beat Newcastle 3-2 in our last game of the season and i got 2 goals and an assist... actually, i scored a pk in that game which was redemption for the pk i gave up at thomas brooks! (forgot that was against newcastle too) damn. some history up in here.] 2/19/2011 4:23:31 PM |

This year sort of sucks because the games are so spread out since the league is 10 teams.
Week 1
Hibernian FC @ Middle Creek 2 Sporting Raleigh SC @ Twin Lakes The Wingmen @ WRAL 4
Week 4 March 19th
10am Wingmen @ TBP2 12 pm Sporting Raleigh @ TBP2 2PM Hibernian FC @ TBP2
We have a tdubb triple header that day. I might have to arrive early and stay late. 2/19/2011 4:36:08 PM |

I and several of my team members have been playing in the Rainbow league in Chapel Thrill, and are excited about playing full contact competitive soccer with legit refs. I just bought jerseys yesterday @ soccer.com: Lanzera Gambeta jerseys in the bright green with black incase anybody wants a color reference, although I'm sure most of you had this taken care of long ago. Getting a team started on a tight timeline is quite and interesting and difficult process, especially when sponsored by an Irish Pub. Good luck this weekend, glad to be a part of TASL. Cheers, Kyle" |
This is good for my team. We might get off to a good start since these guys are coming from Rainbow League. They have adult coed that is 10th grade and older. They also have a 40+ adult coed league too. That means these guys were probably playing with their Grandpa and a bunch of 15 year old girls. They don't have any men's divisions in that league.2/19/2011 5:30:51 PM |

Hey isn't it the rule that the home team has to change jersey's in case of a conflict? 2/19/2011 8:16:50 PM |
Big4Country All American 11914 Posts user info edit post |
^Yeah, so you may have to wear white that day. It depends on the shade of green. They let us play against Blizzard last season with both teams wearing blue since their shirts were a dark enough shade. 2/19/2011 8:24:36 PM |

actually schedules with dates are up on TASL for the season. I figured they would have a bye week during spring breaks but the only off weeks are April 16 and April 23.

OOPS! Panic attack over. We only have 2 missing. The fall passes are still good. It looks like we will have 4 players missing. That should be enough to allow myself to come off the bench last and make sure we don't have people going to the wrong places on the field. 2/26/2011 12:16:34 AM |

The story of my soccer career. We have some players who can play though. The midfield and forwards will be really good when they get used to playing together. The defense could be a little stronger though. I was told we gave up a goal when only 10 players were on the field because no one listened to me when I said only sub in 3 at a time. 2/26/2011 7:11:27 PM |

We came out pretty aggressive today and looked much better than Newcastle to start, but we couldn't finish our opportunities. Newcastle got a lucky bounce past our defenders and finished a 1-on-1 with our keeper to take a 1-0 lead, but after that, they didn't do jack. We were up 2-1 at half and finished it off with a 5-0 second half to start the season out with a 7-1 win.
I had 5 shots, 3 on target and 2 goals. I had a rough season last year and didn't score, so getting on the score sheet today was a good feeling for me. Overall it was a great start to our season! 2/26/2011 8:51:38 PM |

This group doesn't look too bad. Last year we had no really dangerous strikers. Some of our defenders aren't bad. Bull City got lucky. Our GK knocked the ball down to keep it in bounds when it was going to miss the goal by about 2 feet. They got a goal off of that. It was all pretty much down hill after that.
Did Newcastle have their same roster that they have had since I started playing in this league? We get them in 2 weeks. Next week we play Raleigh FC. 2/26/2011 8:59:52 PM |

We lost 1-0 to the flying dogs. Don't let the score fool you, our keeper didn't show up and we completely dominated the game (10 shots on goal to their 3). Flying dog's keeper played a great game, even though the ref can't see when he is lying in mid way in the goal with the ball

Bull city did have like 1-2 lucky goals but once we got behind, I feel like a lot of us gave up. Substitutions are still a problem though. People stay in too long, plat the wrong positions and pretty much mess up any kind of formation we might have. We will get better though and will definitelt do better than 0-9-1. 2/26/2011 11:23:30 PM |

That was in reference to the first goal, not the other 5.

Yeah, people need to wait till the players on the field get to the sidelines before walking on. In a way I wish all 21 players would show up every weekend, so that I could give everyone a position and a partner and tell them to go in for that person in that position about every 10 to 15 minutes in groups of 5. I just wish my best defenders wouldn't keep quiting on me after every season to go to a different team.2/27/2011 11:57:43 AM |
kiljadn All American 44690 Posts user info edit post |
You should give your players set positions whether they show up every week or not. It doesn't do anyone any good if you've got a player who thinks he can play somewhere but really can't. 2/27/2011 12:19:57 PM |
Big4Country All American 11914 Posts user info edit post |
^I've done that, but saying and doing are 2 different things once the game gets going. People just need to not get so excited about getting to play and wait till the players get off the field before entering. The good news is I liked my starting back line without me, so hopefully I won't have to ever start a game this season and can be the last off the bench every game to make sure people go to the right places.
It's a new group and we'll get used to playing together. 2/27/2011 12:32:14 PM |

^No I don't let them do that. They listen to me just fine. It was the first game though and some people were just a little too excited.
Also, if anyone is interested, the turn out for 2:30 pm has been lacking at Dorthea Dix the past 3 Sundays. You can sign up at the below link. I was out there with Opstand today and we had to resort to 6 vs 6 small side.
