it was actually kunitz credited with the goal i believe, but long story short, the official lost sight of the puck under peters, blew the whistle and ruled it no goal on the ice. it wasn't a close call or an accidental whistle, just a run of the mill stoppage where the puck trickles in after the play is over. no video replays indicated that it should be a goal, or even that it might be a goal. the whistle wasn't even late enough to warrant the whole "intent to whistle" discussion from what i could tell.

then they got on the phone with toronto and all the referee said after getting off the phone was "it is a good goal" and pointed to center.

i dunno.

in former Canes news, the Babchuk Flames defeated the Blackhawks 7-2 tonight in the Bret Hart Dome.

TKO and Babchuk were both held scoreless, but somehow TKO was a -1. and no I'm not trying to knock Kostopoulos, I just found it semi-amusing he was a -1 in a 7-2 win.

I liked that immediately after the game, the nhl.com front page had:

1) CROSBY DAZZLES WITH NEW STICK
2) PENS BACK ON TRACK (linked to a big article about their frustrated expectations so far, and essentially implying that we were just the lopsided matchup they needed to dominate and get back to the Ws).

Fuck the fact that they and the Caps are the NHL's US cash cows.

i saw that last night -- center ice didn't have the preds feed, it had the jumbotron feed + Chuck K. pretty awesome, hadn't seen that before, except that I was then subjected to Linda Craft

It opens the door for us to not scratch him every night, that's about it. Matsumoto appears to have a spot locked in on the 4th line. Instead of scratching POS (who we signed for near the league minimum and gave up nothing for) or Tlusty (who we gave up in exchange for arguably one of the worst 1st round picks in recent memory, time will tell) every night, POS the odd man out. As soon as we have a forward injury though, there will be room for an AHL callup.
