interesting! i still need to talk to my endo to see if fenugreek will counteract my thyroid meds, so i'll ask about that too. i've been pumping occasionally at the end if they are still super engorged and he's done eating. my lazy lil diner

Get you some lansinoh disposable breast pads! I felt wasteful and bought the re-usable kind. I ended up leaking like crazy and did so in front of people which was insanely embarrassing. I also bought the avent brand (trying to be cheap) and they sucked too!

I've got nuks (which I hate so I'm trying to get through them) and madela (which I got a lot of). I don't hate those as much but I don't love them, so I'll try those out

Comfort gels rock my world though!

I feel like a dairy cow.

At a feeding consult today, the speech therapist recommended that I try power pumping to boost my milk supply. (Power pumping is an hour of off and on pumping to simulate cluster feeding.) It seems like all the extra stimulation is going to do the trick, but my poor poor bewbs.

I've read online that taking you could take a fenugreek supplement and/or drink a 'nursing tea' to help stimulate your supply.

I actually am having the opposite problem. I'm not sure I make a ton of milk but my let down is insanely fast. The baby gets all choked up on milk. When she pulls away and lets go milk literally sprays everywhere. I'm not talking dripping it is a constant steady stream shooting from my body.

I end up smelling like old milk all day. So gross.

The pumping should definitely increase your supply. I've heard that you can feed like normal and just pump in between feedings to help increase your supply as well.

I'm worried about going back to work and having to pump. It is really hard for me to stimulate my let down without her on the boob.

Amelia has a cleft palate, so I have to feed her with a special bottle. My entire breastfeeding relationship is with my Medela Pump in Style. It's not as effective as an actual nursing baby, but it's really important to me to feed my baby as much of my own milk as possible. Even though I've solely used the pump, my breasts just aren't use to being worked on for that long. My nipples are sore after last night's 'power pump.'

Ashley, I'd say practice with your pump before you go back to work to accustom your body to let down with the pump. I'd start by pumping while holding the baby. That's what I did with Amelia. I pumped in the hospital holding her skin to skin and while she was in the NICU, I pumped while looking at pictures or a video of her.

Ok. I am a little late on this boat and I will only get a few months use out of this but for a crying baby to sooth itself YOU NEED THIS!!! My friend and I went halfsies on it. It is $60. She will get it in Jan when her bun in the oven dings.

Fisher Price New Born Rock and Play

I have multiple friends who have used this with their crying babies and it works wonders. I also used my friends when Orion and I would hang out with her and her little baby girl. THIS THING IS UNBELIEVABLE!!! Like I said earlier, I will only get a few months out of it BUT I see this as gold, baby! Look at it's reviews online if you don't believe me.

^^ Good Luck! I think I'm the last preggers person in this thread so it'd be great to have company.

25 weeks yesterday. Glad to make it past the 24 week mark.

I wouldn't. They've never done clinical tests on pregnant women with those things.

yeah the drop side has been phasing out over the past year or so
apartment therapy had an entry on what you can do with your drop side crib to reuse it in other places in your home now that they're outlawed

So I have a question about what the baby may look like.

I'm white, but my wife is half Jamaican. Any thoughts on how the kid will come out looking?

i never heard that breastfed babies' poops didn't smell...just didn't smell as bad as formula fed babes. *shrug* and i think there's zealous opinions on both sides of the fence...you just gotta do what works for you.

his poops are so stinky. he gets really relaxed mid feeding and ALWAYS lets a big one rip. earlier he let one go that was so loud, explosive, and stinky that both of us were in shock. he stopped feeding, looked up at me like "...oops" and when I started laughing he got upset

Hey so my wife is 9 weeks pregnant, and lately she has started to become more emotional and angrier than usual.

Is this normal? Is it bad for the baby?

A pregnant woman's hormones send her emotions all over the place. While stress is never a good thing, it's totally normal.

Angrier? It's a boy!
I have no idea really...but I heard the increased anger as a result of hormones could mean boy bc of the testosterone. I was easily agitated and angry while pregnant and I had a boy.

And I'm glad you have your appetite back TE

I'm getting blisters from swinging the carseat to get Ryan to sleep as it is the sure thing we've found that will work. Even a swing doesn't have enough umph to work. Upside we're gonna have great arms!

I don't remember it coming back so quickly with my last one.

Glad I have an appointment to have the Mirena done in a couple of weeks. I think I'd have a nervous breakdown if I got pregnant again any time soon.

<3 Mirena. I had one after my first one for a little over 2 years and LOVED it because we didn't have to plan ahead for sex and I stopped having a period.

My doc and I talked over Essure (a sterilization procedure), Paragard (the copper IUD), and Mirena and I'm sticking with Mirena. Even if we aren't planning on more kids, it seems like our best option.

^ If you guys decided to have more children, would you take a chance or do something like PGD?

IF we had more children, it would have to be via PGD if they ever detect the hiccup that causes our particular phenotype. I just harbor too much guilt for passing on my faulty genes not once, but twice. I feel very fortunate that the two children that I have are doing so well, but I'd be devastated if we had a third one and things didn't turn out well. I don't think I'd be comfortable pressing our luck a third time. We're smart enough to realize that it's a coin flip every single time and that the universe doesn't 'owe' us an unaffected child.

If we did have a third via PGD, I would not want anyone to know. I don't think that it would send a positive message to the two children that we have. I want them to feel loved and accepted for who they are and I think that if they were to know that we actively sought to have a third child without DGS that it would have the potential to make them feel inferior.

I think that's very smart, on both aspects. I never thought about the impact it could have on a child..

One thing I hate about situations like these is the ambiguity of all - that feeling of "you never know what you're going to get" (meaning with the phenotype). Reminds me of when someone has a Sonic Hedge Hog (SHH) gene mutation; they could have only a single central incisor and never know they carry it, then have a child with alobar holoprosencephaly (bad bad bad)... Or they could have a child who also has a single central incisor.

And (counselor mode flipping on) don't beat yourself up about passing anything - the way your genetics are distributed is something you certainly can't control

gorgeous. maybe not initially, but it is pretty much guaranteed that they will be ranked highly on the beautiful people charts as grown ups.

you could go for a 3-D scan around 5-6 months old to see their face and facial features!
