I am happy to report that I said "Fuck you, life" and I'm going to get Skyrim this weekend.

Unless I wise up before then.

just made my first set of orcish armor, all exquisite.

What sucks is the dwarf mace still does 2 more damage than the orc one at the same upgraded level

got %block enchants on my gloves and shield tho

Are frost trolls really that hard, or am I just progressing too quickly in the game (level 12 on like the 3rd main story quest).

Those things are ridiculous.

Trolls, giants, and mammoths are kicking my ass at level 14. I can still kill the shit out of every dragon I come across, however.

Yeah, funny you mention that. I hit an area called Labyrinthonia, or something like that, and it's crawling with trolls. Each one practically heals quicker than I can do damage and if I have to back off the fight for one instant to regen health the thing regens its own health to near full.

Then a dragon appeared shortly thereafter and I didn't have to swig one potion (didn't have any thanks to the trolls anyway) or regen health once.

No, they're not. I was carrying around 20lbs of witches' heads for a while and couldn't get rid of them because "you cannot discard quest items."

^That's the quest where I met all those frost trolls. Up until then I ran into a cave by a waterfall filled with several normal trolls and they didn't give me near as much trouble.

Quote :

That was my #1 problem. I always forget to use shouts in a fight. I remembered for the troll fight, but the shout did nothing. Maybe a half-second knockback, nothing more.

the fire shout is the one i use the most, works great on trolls, and pretty much everything else

but I'm melee, so it fits with my playstyle

if you're a caster or archer, you should really finish the graybeard questline, and get the full-power, 3 word Unrelenting Force shout*. That thing will keep anything away from you.

there is a invulnerability shout you can get too, which is good if you need to run quick and heal up

Just keep a couple of shouts marked as favorites, so you can select the important ones at a moments notice.

[Edited on November 17, 2011 at 10:53 PM. Reason : *don't forget to hold your shout button down long enough to get all 3 words out]

Yeah, I took the long route to High Hrothgar without realizing there was a faster way. Next time I play the game I'll be able to save so much time

The walk to the tomb in the Companion missions about Korlak is another long ass walk if you haven't been out that way yet.

Still don't know what you folks are talking about. I too took the 7000 steps and it only took about 10 minutes.

i think part of it is if you level too fast before you walk the steps you get faced with some nasty spawns.

took down a regular dragon, two blood dragons, and a frost dragon last night. frost dragon gave me the most problems, but mainly due to nothing to hide behind during breath attack and less time spent landing and breathing

yeah, i went up to their place the first time at 15, ran into some frost wolves and ice wraiths.

not terrible if you've leveled up in combat, but i had leveled up mainly in noncombat skills.

The trip to the town at the foot of the mountain was the haul for me. Took forever to find a way there, and I ran into a dragon, a troll and a couple of sabre cats. There was an ice wraith and an ice troll (fuck that guy) on the steps, but it was a much shorter trip.

Haha when I said this, I was starting my trip from Whiterun and didn't have any points east to fast travel to.

The trip up the 7000 steps isn't that bad. The thing I was most impressed about was how good everything looked on the climb up. It must blow people away playing on a really good gaming computer.

This game is an OCD person's nightmare. One minute I'm in a town trying to bang out all the quests. I stop to have a couple of drinks with an NPC, and next thing I know I'm waking up halfway across Skyrim, in the temple of a sex goddess, in a Hold I haven't been to yet.

Worst part is the temple is closed.... goddamnitsomuch.

It took me forever because I couldn't find the 'attack angle' to summit that mountain. Originally I approached from the southwest and eventually hit a dead end. Lots of backtracking before I realized that bridge across the waterfall was the start of the 7000 step thing. I wonder if anyone will be obsessed enough with this game to verify there are 7000 steps.

Maybe it was because I was a nord and I think they get some kind of ice resistance bonus, but the frost dragon is the only type I can just stand toe to toe with and not have to worry about dying... fire on the other hand.

Edit: Yeah, there's a 50% frost resistance bonus for being a nord. You get to laugh at the frost dragons.

Yes.

Yes it is.

I was doing my questing in Whiterun, working through my quests, then unknowingly started the "A night to remember" quest, putting me across the map with another chain while my other quests were still in Whiterun. I start walking around and some event happens that starts off another long conspiracy quest chain, which leads me to three other (unrelated) quest chains involving cannibalism, Dwemer ruins, a Daedric lord, and I'm sure others that I can't remember...now I have quests all over the place that must be done.

Fuckin' hell.

so, should i be looking at making a straight warrior, is the opinion to go with a nord for frost resist? or an orc for berserker?

you can do either of those things

the logic i used was: I'm going to be playing a game based almost entirely in an arctic/winter environment. Cold resist might come in handy.

Doing good so far.

well, should is all in the opinion of aesthetics i suppose.

I've played about 40 hours now with a rogue type class, so next round will be either a caster or a warrior. just trying to decide which sounds more appealing and looks better

i like the idea of crafting the high end heavy armor though
