Ryan Harrow is just a pussy. He's too scared to be here so it's okay with me that he's leaving.
State may not have a great party scene for those under 21, but it's not just because Hillsborough St. has a lack of bars (which they couldn't go to) or because of Campus Edge/U Village/etc. out near Tryon. I'd argue that during the warm months, the apartments out near Tryon are great places to party.
I see some of the closed, homebody type groups that were mentioned in this thread, but those are going to exist anywhere. Ryan was brought here to play basketball. If he has no game and can't pull in any strange, that's on him. I'll place a little blame on the cheat chasers here that apparently didn't keep his dick wet enough.
The houses behind Hillsborough Street are expensive. The noise ordinance, along with not being able to park on the street after 11:00pm, really hamper the amazing things that could go on back there. That said, you can walk to PBs, East Village, etc. on that end of the street, which really isn't bad unless you want high-class bars, which aren't going to attract the college crowd.
The fraternity/sorority system could be great here, but again you have a large number of people who hate it simply because they can't afford it. It's up to the students to get involved and propel the party scene higher instead of having 4-5 guys and 1-2 girls come over to their apartment for some beer pong and Call of Duty.
There's problems, for sure, but it's not as bad as some of you make it out to be. I've thrown 200-300 person keggers at my house and the police never came. I don't think I got every single person that wanted to party to come, either. There's plenty of partying going on, and if you can't find it then join a fraternity/sorority or make new friends. 4/27/2011 2:42:24 PM |

that's actually not a bad point, if our greek life support was better there would be more parties for the players to go to. I remember multiple fraternity parties where Ilian Evtimov and other basketball/football were in attendance and having a good time.
Greek life at NCSU gets no support from the university. Go look at the TKE chapter at University of Southern California and you will see how a fraternity system should be run. They have HUGE parties and philanthropic events, many of which are co-sponsored by the football, basketball, etc. teams. Its a joke how bad NC State is when it comes to fraternities and sororities. You can hate on them all you want, but a healthy greek system makes for a better, more well-rounded university as a whole.
tell me this doesnt look like a sweet party: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJT0Bg2Fk1Q

I dont think that a bunch of black dudes would want to go to white frat boy parties.
Because white frat boys can be a bunch of racists rich brats from time to time, and there parties are boring. No one real gets down to dance, everyone just stands around drinking beer and talking boring nonsense.

funny thing is, there are fraternity alumni everywhere, and you would never know that they were in a fraternity.
and yes, plenty of "black dudes" enjoy coming to frat parties with "white frat boys"
but whatever, you all are obviously experts on the subject. haters gonna hate, thats what you people do best around here.

no, that sounds like every single house party at NCSU. You've apparently never been to a fraternity party where there is a band/DJ playing. click on that video I posted above

The best of both worlds is going to Frat parties without actually being in the frat.
And you can't seriously compare Southern California to NC State in terms of social life.
Oh wait, its DROD. Be my guest. 4/27/2011 3:05:34 PM |

Also, knock greek life all you want, but unless you're Moneybags McHorsedick, it makes it infinitely easier to get laid. You can still have sex without being in a frat, but you actually have to work for it. 4/27/2011 3:07:40 PM |

USC is the best case scenario where a university fully supports the greek life system.
and I'm not saying that any of you people need to join a fraternity. I'm just saying that a greek life system that is supported by the university will throw bigger and better parties, and will in turn make the social scene better for everyone

People that think they are entitled to things due to being in a fraternity are just as stupid as the people that think all fraternities are the same. There are the stereotypical douchebag fraternities and there are plenty that dont fit that stereotype. Jaybee1200 is Greek and his definitely wasn't full of rich, spoiled, white guys. We had just about every ethnic group you could think of, some guys came from rich families, some were poor as dirt, some were military veterans starting college after serving. Great group of guys. Of course we got kicked off campus due to a party that yours truly threw at the house but we just got back on campus a year ago. Happy for the new guys, and happy that I have somewhere to pass out after games again. 4/27/2011 4:15:27 PM |

Speaking of fraternities, I've seen plenty of players this year at different parties, but Harrow was never with them. If the guy has complained at all about things to do at State then maybe he should've gotten off Twitter and Facebook and gone out with his teammates.
Also, what the hell was the point of the article from the Austin Johnson guy from Pack Pride? So the fans bought into all the hype Harrow and Leslie talked about with how great the trio could be, the season doesn't go well, a lot of fans still support the team, but are critical of the coach and he decides to bolt because not everything is positive? CJL was the one who got suspended this year, and his answers to the questions about the season and his desire to stay sounded a hell of a lot more mature than Harrow.
I get that maybe Lowe told him he'd get the majority of the minutes all year, but if he'd played better he would've played over Javi. He would've had playing time this year too, and plenty of it. I don't buy that from Harrow's camp. If your own 'un-named' teammates question your work ethic after the fact then you've got no one to blame, but the player. 4/27/2011 5:52:40 PM |

And living in the house + dues was cheaper than just rent at a lot of places.
And if you consider having friends that are of a different ethnic group as merely tokens then that's your problem. I don't. 4/27/2011 5:52:48 PM |

The main reason Jaybee likes having black friends is so he's not the only one wearing South Pole and Sean John in the group. 4/27/2011 5:58:47 PM |

Anecdotes are fun. I watched the Clemson/State football game at Tobacco Road and the entire basketball team and coaching staff was there. Ryan looked super depressed and didn't say a word to anyone. At one point Coach Lowe went and talked to him one on one and put his arm around him to calm him down.
It was really weird...
** And after reading the last two or three pages, this thread has obviously run it's course. If you want to talk about who we are going to recruit with the extra scholarship go to the Recruiting thread and there are plenty of Gottfried/coaching staff threads to talk about how the rotation will work.
