From PI!!!

Quote :
"Every time NC State head coach Mark Gottfried had the chance to meet with the media this off-season he wanted to talk about Richard Howell and his weight loss. He wanted to let you know that Howell, often questioned for his nonchalant on court demeanor, has been one of the hardest workers and strongest leaders this offseason. To be honest, I didn’t know how much of that to believe. How much could a player change in one year?

Take one look at Richard Howell this season and you’ll begin to see what Gottfried has been raving about. Howell is in unbelievable shape. The once hefty looking small forward now sports a V-shaped upper body with visible unflexed muscles. So how in one year did Howell make this complete transformation?

“Well, before I was eating like two bacon, egg and cheese biscuits in the morning, now I’ll wake up and eat cereal.” Howell told us. “For lunch I’ll have salad or peanuts, just something that gives me energy. I’ve also been starting to eat a lot of fish, mainly salmon. Just something with more protein, something that wil help me not get as tired and produce more on the court.”

Sir Rich has gone from nearly 270 down to under 250 and he’s still losing weight. The newly transformed body is good news for his health, but also good for the Wolfpack who is hoping Howell can step up and become a true force in the paint.

“I’m much quicker now.” said Howell. “You can just tell by the way I’m running up and down the court in practice and in pick-up. Sometimes I’m just amazed at how quickly the results are coming from the workouts that Coach Allejo has us doing. I’m really thankful for that because if it weren’t for him we wouldn’t be in the situation we’re in today.”

“It’s taken my game to new places. I can get up a lot higher and a lot quicker than I could last year and I think that’s going to help us as a team. When I need to dunk it, I’m going to dunk it. I definitely feel the difference this year from last year.”

This is welcomed news from Gottfried and company as they look to Howell to anchor the high post in the new UCLA high post offense that’s been integrated this season, something Howell thinks suits this team extremely well.

“This offense puts me in a situation where I can play different roles. I feel like I have the ability to pass it from the top of the key or take it to the basket. I just feel like the way the offense is set up, it’s just real good for our team and the abilities of the players we have.” Howell said. “I think it suits me and CJ because of our versatility. I can be a distributor or scorer. I can be whatever coach needs me to be, I can switch it up and be that. If I’m feeling it then I can go do that. If there’s a night when I’m helping the team more by dishing the ball out, I’m going to go and do that.”

With NC State having so many questions and no way to answer them just yet, it’s going to be a wait and see situation when talking about just how good this team could be. One thing IS for sure, Mark Gottfried and his staff has already begun to change the culture around NC State. Something Sir Rich can attest to.

“We definitely are starting to understand what hard work is all about. As soon as Coach Gottfried got here he really pushed us motivated us to take our team to the next level and that’s what we’ve been doing. We’re in the gym everyday working. It’s really changed the way this team goes about things.”"

damn that sucks. I guess it's better that it's not on his shooting hand. Better now than during ACC play. Maybe Jaqawn Raymond will get to start in his place.

How long does a thumb take to heal? Could be a couple weeks?

More likely that we'd go with three forwards using Painter

Scott Twinkletoes Wood back at the 2

Watching Wood try to guard ACC 2's is laughable

Hopefully they don't leave out there for long stretches without some help

thumb probably takes a bit longer but I've broken several fingers and unless its a complete break usually after a week you're more or less back to normal. That said its different when you're having to take strong passes.

Also sometimes a "break" in the hand is when a tendon is pulled to the point where it pulls some of the bone off, see Volar Plate fracture. This happened to me when playing ball a couple years ago. This can be fast or slow healing but can often lead to stiffness for a long period.

^ Same thing happened to my middle finger. they said i could have it screwed together or wear a splint for a month or 2 and it might not heal right.

i wore the splint i healed ok. the tendon completely pulled a piece of bone out and it wasn't connected at all, i guess that is extreme, it probably didn't help that i waited 2 and half weeks to go to the doc. i thought it was just a jam.

^^mine wasn't that severe. Because I had had similar things happen before I knew that instant that it was "broken" For me it wasn't too severe so just splinted it and after about a week it was normal use. The finger was still tight and stiff for about 6 months though and from time to time it still a little tight on me.

No biggie, season doesn't start for a month, and he can still still be a senior leader in practice.

Or that the football practice field is located over a EPA superfund site. (I know this has little to do with basketball but bear with me).

Yes, I apologize for starting that stupid BS, i was taking a dig at some of our moronic fanbase.

But back to basketball, I just went to the ticket office and picked up my groupon packages of 6 pre-conference games. And I picked up some freshly made b-ball posters, they smell like they'd just been printed.

You mean the Richmond that went 29-8 (13-3) last year? The Richmond that beat #8 Purdue, #25 Temple, and lost in the Sweet 16?

I don't know any other teams named Richmond so that was indeed the one to which I was referring.
