Well, as long as political power and corporate interests are so deeply intertwined, no amount of wealth redistribution is going to help. I will go ahead and say that arbitrarily capping salaries or increasing tax brackets isn't going to solve the problem. The problem with America, and this extends beyond corporations, is that we reward bad/irresponsible behavior. We do this because we don't want people to suffer in the short term, but we just end up causing ourselves more and greater pain in the long run.

We have a small percentage of people with a large percentage of wealth.

We have a large percentage of people with essentally no wealth, savings, or future plan.

We have a signficant percentage of people who depend on the gov't for sustenance, housing, healthcare, and do not contribute to the productivity of the country.

If you jump across our border and pop out a kid, you're entitled to a free education and healthcare.

We have a business/tax/trade structure such that it's cheaper for me to go to walmart and buy a pair of shoes made 10,000 miles away in another country, rather than a pair made just down the road.

Yeah, but they are legally liable if stock holders can show they did something that made them less money, and often-times, this is the socially-responsible course action.

I think the crux of the issue for me is there is no culture anymore in America for corporations, or anyone, to be socially responsible. It's almost virtuous to be a selfish asshole, if it's profitable.

If this were ingrained in our society, we wouldn't need the arm of the the citizenry to hold peoples' hands. It seems over the past few decades, as corporations have become more powerful, they've squeezed the idea of large corporations working for the public good out of the collective conscious. The recent lending bubble, auto bailouts, and bank bailouts, while things get worse for people who are actually struggling just keep getting worse.

And to lend insult to injury, you have people like pack_bryan who ignore the facts of the situation and say it's just people being lazy. It's funny that in multiple countries around the world people decided to be lazy simultaneously. It can't be the massive, unaccountable global banking industry ignoring their responsibilities to put profit above all else.
