So my mom just dragged me to see this, I wanted to see the new Steve Carrel movie but I let her have her way. Neither of us knew anything going in.
I liked it. There were a lot of questions I had and I thought it was really strange there were soooo many famous actors/actress for just a B scifi movie. I'm also kinda surprised this thread is 13 pages, I'll have to read it some. 6/30/2012 5:20:57 PM |

"I guess my message would be: Try not to bring too much of what you want Prometheus to be into the theater. The first time you see the movie, your sense of what you want it to be and what it's going to be could potentially override you just sitting back and watching it. And I do feel that at the very least, taking full responsibility for my own role in the writing of the film, it's one of the most visually spectacular things that I've seen recently. It can be experienced as just something that washes over you if it's possible for you to turn your brain off. I just hope people dig it."" |

lindelof's shit worked with lost because lost was always about the characters. you could suspend disbelief and sort of turn your brain off even when things got ridiculous because you cared about jack, locke, ben, sawyer, sayid, etc. prometheus isn't like that. none of the characters are interesting, and it's hard to give a shit about any of them. 7/1/2012 12:08:29 AM |

Fun read about all the stupid in this film
One thing I have found on here and the IMDB boards, is that all of the fan boys are using the same tactic when defending this movie. Basically, any point that is made to point out a plot hole, or bad writing, lack of exposition, or just plain stupid nonesense, is explained away by the fan boys by some explanation of which there is no basis in the movie. They read soooooo far into things, and pull out explanations that are just guesses or there own made up theories. I mean I understand a movie leaving something up to interpretation, but I think its rediculous for defenders to try and explain away character motivations or plot points without any basis whatsoever. The movie needed just a little bit more exposition before you can assume all of these stupid explanations.

#4 (“I don’t – it’s what I choose to believe.”) still pisses me off every time I think about it. It was Scott and Lindelof giving the finger to science. And calling Evolution "Darwinism" was more of the same.
also nail on the head:

Finally saw this last night and I enjoyed it, despite the glaring plot holes and 'what the fuck' moments. After readin the comments in this thread I agree with a lot of you who pointed out the inconsistent writing, etc.
Out of all the crazy, belief suspended moments in this movie, the one thing that kept sticking out to me was how much physical stress Shaw encountered after having the c-section. Small, simple movements would've ripped the incision back open and she was running, jumping, stretching and getting thrown around everywhere just minutes later.
Also, what was the point of the writers making the surgery pod male only? Just to add some tension for a few seconds while she did the manual override? I understand why it could be male only (even though you would think a machine with those capabilities and price tag would work for both genders) for Weyland, but it didn't really add anything to the story by pointing that out. Perhaps they wanted to show that Weylands life is paramount to the mission? 7/10/2012 10:38:20 AM |
CapnObvious All American 5057 Posts user info edit post |
I think that point was revealed to make a sly indication that Weyland was still alive before we knew it. Nothing major, but I did find it slightly interesting. But yes, a machine like that should be able to work on both male and female. 7/10/2012 4:35:09 PM |
cyrion All American 27139 Posts user info edit post |
of all the nitpicking the machine should be low on our list. they said VERY few existed, so it is safe to assume this is fancy/expensive/new tech so having it configured for one gender isnt too far out of the realm of possibility. 7/10/2012 5:26:58 PM |

was that siren even in alien? i just thought the whole original prometheus trailer was supposed to be an homage to the alien trailer between all the short, intense clips, the siren, and the way the text came together and formed the movie's title7/10/2012 11:06:01 PM |

Quote : | "Prometheus sequel is officially happening EntertainmentMoviesNews
In a suspiciously low-key fashion, Fox has confirmed that this year’s hyped science fiction smash hit, Prometheus, will indeed have a sequel.
The Ridley Scott is-it-or-is-it-not prequel to Alien that grossed over $303 million worldwide will air its follow-up in 2014, with Scott, Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender commited to continuing the cinematic legacy.
Screenwriter Damon Lindelof, however, will not work on the project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox’s president of production Emma Watts has emphasized that audiences must remain patient for the peroration as the studio and ““Ridley [Scott] is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can’t rush it.”
Interestingly, Watts has overseen sequels from both the X-Men and Planet of the Apes franchises (take that as you will) and word on the web is that after part two, viewers can expect an epic third instalment.

I really hope for the same, but with the talks of a third already in the planning, methinks this might be another more-questions-than-answers ordeal in order to dangle the carrot for the next installment. I really hope they will at least answer the questions that lingered from the first.

Too bad Cherlize Theron won't be back. I really think she should have been an android. She really did seem too young to be Weyland's daughter, he was like 100 years old and she was, what, like 35?8/6/2012 7:27:04 PM |

For anyone that still cares, looks like there is a possibility that we will get an extended version despite what Scott has been saying to the contrary. The info along the left side says 2:04, but the timebar says 2:39, matching up with previous information that 35 additional minutes were cut for the theatrical release.

So I bought the DVD. Scott spills the beans about why the engineers wanted to destroy the humans: It IS because the humans killed their Space Jockey Jesus.
I enjoy having this on DVD though, cause there is a bunch of stuff that I did not pick up on in the theater. I am still unsure as to the origin of the Alien. Was the alien at the end the first Xeno ever? Or is that just to show where they come from? 10/13/2012 3:59:48 PM |
