^some idiots have tried to use the "he's not a good defender" excuse which is flat out wrong. Others use the "his team hasn't won anything" which I find funny because we wouldn't be anywhere close to .500 in the ACC without him. He's just been so far and away better than anyone else, it's ridiculous that there are people overlooking him.
He'll, the color commentator for the fsu/bc game last night said he thought Paige deserved it and backed it up by saying that Paige was great in a game he called and that UNC would be terrible without him. Made me laugh. Then he mentioned Malcolm brogdon and I turned the channel. Stupidity that strong shouldn't be allowed on tv. Think of the chilren 3/5/2014 7:43:35 AM |

Adam and Joe yesterday were going on and on saying that Lebron isnt the NBA MVP because he hasnt played better than Kevin Durant over the course of the entire season. They then proceeded to say that Paige, Parker and Warren are the frontrunners for the ACC POY, with Paige probably getting the edge because UNC is going to make the NCAA tourney.
Paige and Parker have been great at times, but also have disappeared completely in several games for their teams. I can only think of a couple games this entire season where Warren wasnt the best player on the court, and one of those games he didnt play in due to injury.
I know I have red colored shades on, but to me TJ is the POY and its not even really close 3/5/2014 7:59:02 AM |

Yep, I also heard Jeff Goodman on radio say Warren shouldn't win it because of State's record. He then proceeded to say that UNC would be nowhere without Paige, & that he was top of his list
.500 in the ACC isn't terrible enough to discount a player from that team from winning the POY. I think what spooks the UNC/Duke homers in the media is that with Green last year, and TJ this, a 'dangerous' trend may begin where they may be forced to vote for the highest scorers. But Tj isn't just a volume scorer, but they're still acting like that's all he does. It's almost criminal.

Goodman is on record saying he would vote for Parker. Maybe he mentioned Paige in a radio interview.
I said it before but I'm really ok with any of the three winning it but I'll be pissed if somehow Rodney Hood gets more votes than Warren. Parker will win though. He is what non-NC people have been hearing about all year. Same reasoning Kentucky is still ranked.

TJ is clearly the ACC POY, and it's not even that close. Any rational observer can see that. Even the UNC and Duke fans I've talked to don't dispute it. Parker and Paige are both great players, but without TJ this team would have 6 wins, tops. He is consistently our best player and most effective scoring option night in and night out, sometimes shouldering the entire scoring load. When he doesn't play well, we lose, and we lose ugly. When he plays well, he gives us a punchers chance against almost anyone in the nation.
Also, it's hardly unprecedented to give the ACC POY to a player on a shitty team. They gave Erick Green co-POY last year who wasn't half the player Warren is on a far shittier team. He deserves it and should/will get it.
For fucks sakes, he leads us in rebounding too, and would probably have some more assists if anyone else on this team could consistently score. It would be borderline lunacy to give the award to anyone else.

I thought Parker was a lock to win it, but if Paige has a big game and helps UNC beat Duke this weekend, think Paige has a really good shot to take it. They'll point out his big game against us, his half against Duke, his block against ND, this coming weekend's game, etc. 3/6/2014 9:48:26 AM |

Then what is it? The player with the best stats? That's TJ. The most consistently dominant player on the floor throughout the season? That's also TJ. There really isn't any way you can classify it that TJ doesn't win, including if its an "MVP" award. Unless it's an award for the best player on the best team, which historically it's never been, including last year.
Exception that proves the rule. The amazing thing about TJ is that he's had so few poor games that we've only been dumped or lost to a lesser team a few times this season.3/6/2014 10:29:43 AM |

It's actually more of a popularity contest. It's the best player on the most popular team. It will be Parker or Paige, depending on how Saturday's game goes. 3/6/2014 11:04:00 AM |

Best player in the ACC. Every team has an MVP. Just because TJ is ours doesn't strengthen his case for POY.

Maryland game is a fair answer to "he's our entire team"

I was going to mention that, but a lot of teams have been abysmal in the ACC this year.
We looked like complete shit in the 1st half of that game but ultimately won it comfortably without him and you can't ignore that. Now, if we played a whole season with that roster is Ralston Turner putting 23 and 7 a night and Dez Lee 14 with 4 steals? Probably not 3/6/2014 12:35:07 PM |

Agreed. If you played the "blind resume" game with acc poy, all of the talking heads would pick TJ in a heartbeat. The only argument where he isn't the absolute clear cut winner is the "best player on a good team" one. And I'll bet more than a few voters who use that argument voted for green last year.3/6/2014 12:46:34 PM |

I must say, it is quite remarkable how quiet the media has been about TJ this year. Even your casual hoops fan would have heard about the likes of Green last season, but this year it is all about blue chip hype.
