Perhaps not, but that's what loses a lot of people who might otherwise be generally supportive (or at least not vehemently against). That's what put it on the radar of the average Joe and what allows Republicans to run roughshod over rights well beyond sports. So good job with the self-own. Organized sporting participation is not a requirement for success in life. There's plenty of satisfaction to be had in challenging oneself in individual pursuits. Is it really completely a libertarian issue though? That’s to TGL and Snewf. I certainly get your argument - it’s your body, you do what you want to with it, sure. Same with abortions, and I agree there (I don’t necessarily think it’s the right choice, but I don’t have the right to decide for you).

The minute that you walk into the locker room of the opposite sex though, to me, it crosses an odd threshold. Everybody on the left would say that anyone offended by a penis in a women’s locker room is being a bigot. But let’s say there’s a victim of sexual assault trying to change at Planet Fitness. Maybe the sight of a man’s genitals gives them PTSD.

Very specific example that likely hardly ever happens, but it could. Is it still a libertarian issue?

I’d be 100% on board if there were a third option for everyone, from locker rooms to sports, but again, you call that bigotry.

^^ It's libertarian because other than protecting people's constitutional rights, the government has no role there. the scenario rjrumfel mentioned has probably never happened and if it did, the transgender person would most likely happily accommodate the person by choosing a different time or place at the gym, no government needed.

if the gyms banned transgender people, some would argue that it is also a libertarian right to do that, but the problem is most transgender people arent obvious, and these bans tend to harm butch/tomboy women overwhelmingly, and the government giving places of public accommodation any reason to think about let alone police specific peoples' genitals seems unconstitutional. so then libertarians will say let the market decide... market would probably just have gyms make sure at least 1 single person changing area is available with a shower, which actually makes sense for a lot of reasons having nothing to do with transgender people.

if youre worried about something that never happens and vote for a rapist and felon for president, you don't actually care about the safety of women, youre a victim of rightwing propaganda.
