well then how else would you decide it? In a season the two games that the teams played against each other should hold more ground than the overall goal difference. If that is tied then go to goal difference and after that go to a playoff.

You have to realize that if two teams are tied at the top, they have had similar results over the course of the season so their two matches should hold much more emphasis.

because certain games might have significance that you're not aware of till later...that's my guess/rationale

so you might be tempted to settle for a draw against Madrid because you've already beaten them earlier in the year, but then it turns out to be a moot point because Barca ultimately beat you on points...some shit like that

goal difference makes everything much more straightforward...I don't hate it, personally. and it's not a terrible metric for overall quality of a team's season (which is what winning the league depends on.)
