^I don't think the hate is that amazing given his on-pitch comments in 2010. None of Rooney's teammates reacted that way. Rooney's a douche, and his antics on and off field seem to confirm that, whereas Messi seems like a nice guy.

Wonder if wazza31 reads the Argentine papers and listens to the media there? He must to definitively say Messi doesn't get the same shit as Rooney.

Messi and Rooney are both paid about equal. And more than Ronaldo. That blows my mind.

Yeah, I know why and I'm not even saying there's anything wrong with it. It's just weird out of context. Messi was good in 2010 anyway. Everybody wants to look at his goals only but I thought he played pretty good. also, Rooney is a stupid idiot and the most overrated English international ever and Roy should just send him home now

I dunno...Rooney had a pretty sweet assist in the Italy game

however, I really can't recall him accomplishing much in World Cups/Euros of years past

Here is the thing with Rooney, in qualifiers he does amazing. Scores all over the place and does a great job. When it comes to matches that counts, he doesn't score that often. Aside from Gerrard and Lampard though, he is prob the most senior player on the team. The rest of the team is fairly young and inexperienced so even if he isn't actively scoring goals he is still giving direction on the pitch.

If Sterling is the next big thing for England he better watch it. England loves a scapegoat, and after Rooney Sterling is next on the list.

It's early but what are everybody's favorite goals so far?

Gotta think ^ is an easy leader so far. I liked Sturridge's goal for the crisp passing and that Swiss goal just for the excitement factor.

That and the Costa Rica header are my favorites so far. Sterling had everyone fooled for 10 seconds but my had that gone in it would have been my favorite by far.

So I am assuming it would be in our best interest for Germany to win today assuming that we win? I think if we dont get the 3 against Ghana we are pretty much out unless Germany wins the other two and sandbags the game against us.

I believe our most likely path through is win today, draw portugal, then hope Germany has already topped the group and we can salvage a draw against their B group.

Yeah, that seems like the plan.

On the other hand, facing a Portugal team desperate for 3 against us will be just as dangerous as a German team that hasn't locked up advancement. We're also assuming Portugal/Germany both get 3 from the Ghana games which I just don't think will happen. Bottom line is if we don't win tonight, we sure as shit better not lose.

Yeah a loss tonight pretty much seals our fate already which will be disappointing with all the build up. I dont expect us to advance myself, but I expect to go into the portugal game still thinking its possible.

I'm hoping for a German tie and US win today. That way we will be top of the group and hopefully we can steal a win, or at least tie our second game to get to 4 points. Then we can go from there.

Portugal defense is atrocious. Our game with them may have 10 goals combined.

If that's a penalty (clearly it was), then that's a red. You can't do one without the other.

portugal are self destructing. we would have a good chance of beating them if they play like this. i guess it wasnt a fluke that they had to play in the european playoffs just to get in.

^^^yup, all we would have to do is beat ghana, tie portugal, and not get destroyed by germany. plus you would think germany would have a place pretty much clinched by the time they played us so there is no telling what kind of team they would put out.

There's always at least one team that massively underachieves (Italy and France 2010 come to mind). Hopefully that is Portugal this year.

Portugal is on the path to self destruction, and it very well could lead into a hangover loss against us in Manaus. I'll be sure to do my part (leave Wednesday, w00t!). They do not look intimidating at all right now, and Ronaldo, per usual is a non factor in this cup for his country.

There are two types of responses to this kind of loss. A revenge win or complete implosion. I'm hoping for the latter.

Portugal had terrible body language on the field even before the score got out of hand...screaming and gesturing at each other after a mistake and what not. Bodes well for us, I'd say.

Few things make me happier than a desparate Ronaldo being completely irrelevant at the World Cup.
