I'm sure this was posted before...it was written back in May. But I'm just now seeing it for the first time. DeAngelo Williams writing for MMQB about his mom's battle with breast cancer. Good stuff.

What's everyone's thoughts on Greg Hardy after all this Ray Rice news? I think a 6-game suspension is almost a fait accompli at this point, just a matter of when, but probably not this season given the pending trial date. Would hate to break up the defensive line this early into the season, but I say Gettleman starts fishing for a potential sign and trade partner.

Well there is no video of Hardy so that is going to be a factor

The video is what pushed this over the top, for sure. But I wonder if Goodell might try to make an example of Hardy now to show that the NFL means business about domestic violence issues.

I don't know what all has been posted on the Hardy incident over the summer, but some things to consider are:

1) He made the call in to the police basically saying this girl is bat shit, and that he used excessive force to stop her madness. She was drunk and coked up
2) There's no video
3) She didn't show up for court, and at least her first attorney dropped her. Not sure what's happened since, but this is pretty indicative of her trying to extort money from him. Personally, I think the chick is your typical coked up smoke show cocktail waitress. She saw an opportunity to fuck an NFL star, seized it, and her Real House Whores friends talked her in to trying some shit. It'll likely work out financially for her, and she will blow it all.
4) I doubt he preemptively threatened her. She probably provoked him to act violent and subsequently threaten her. He probably said I would kill you IF I hit you. Not, bitch I am going to and will kill you. (This is personal opinion)

As far as what the NFL can/should do, they can't and shouldn't do anything right now. He isn't guilty, only charged. If he is found guilty, then he should be suspended. By that point, he likely won't be a Panther anyways.

Disclaimer : I do not condone domestic violence whatsoever.

I can echo all of that.

The only thing that is a little off in that post, and I may be wrong, but I think he's actually already been found guilty by a judge. He's currently appealing and they are going to have a jury trial now.

I wish they could somehow just get this delayed until the season is over and let it be another team's problem

Yea, I need to correct that. He was found guilty.

I wouldn't be surprised if this gets settled out of court. This chick is a money grubbin trifler. She apparently fucked, or fucks Nelly.

how does her sleeping with Nelly have anything to do with being the victim of domestic violence?

i'm not trying to defend him, but you seem to assume that she was the only "victim" when you really don't know and it could be a case of her being more guilty than him in instigating the situation and him just being stronger.... we don't know.

that's what the courts are for

and he was found guilty

with your line of thinking, without video, every domestic assault is iffy if the accused is bigger than the accuser

true
(and every domestic assault is iffy unless there is evidence, i don't always assume the bigger person is solely guilty)

It does, to me, however, show that she has a pattern of "preying" on high profile figures to use them to her advantage. Hardy was paying her rent, and I believe Nelly was financially supporting this broad in some way. She offers nothing to society other than a hot snatch, and uses that to pay her coke habits, "high society" lifestyle, and rent. Basically what happened here, in my opinion, is Hardy said he was done supporting this shit and she flipped out.

My guess is that something along those lines is why the court agreed to allow an appeal on the case. They didn't have the time or resources in the first trial to dig in to this girls history, financial records, etc. to make a fair judgment in determining Hardy's further punishment outside of what they set down that day.

All of that being said, since he has been found guilty by one court already, he should conceivably be punished by either the NFL or the Panthers. I think a punishment would have to come in the form of paid absence, though?

Regardless of how you perceive her lifestyle choices, Hardy had zero business laying his hands on her. While I don't buy her entire story (choking her out, throwing her into a bathtub, etc...), I also don't buy that Hardy was just innocently fending her off while trying to call the cops. He definitely threatened her and probably pushed her around a bit, causing some minor injuries. His intent was probably to scare the shit out of her so she leaves him alone, which was clearly the wrong way to go. The thing with Hardy is he has a history of poor decisions off the field, and the Panthers will eventually decide to make him someone else's problem.

As far as his demeanor goes, he's definitely taken some pain meds or something.

Also, he's clearly got his plate full with focusing on the Detroit Lions.

Currently:

11th in ESPN (15th before week 1) http://espn.go.com/nfl/powerrankings

Quote :
"Kelvin Benjamin had an impressive debut. Benjamin caught six of eight targets for 92 yards and a touchdown Sunday. Imagine what Benjamin can do with Cam Newton under center."

18th in CBS (22nd before week 1) http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/powerrankings

Quote :
"Winning on the road without Cam Newton was impressive. The defense was suffocating against Tampa Bay for three-plus quarters."

16th in Bleacher Report! http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2193632-nfl-power-rankings-2014-week-2-standings-based-on-latest-super-bowl-odds

Quote :
"Just when we all think the Panthers are going to regress, especially in a game where Cam Newton didn't play, the defense steps up to remind us why they were so good last year. Combine that with strong play from rookie wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin and the steady hands of Greg Olsen, suddenly Carolina looks good once again. "

8th in Fox Sports http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/power-rankings

Quote :
"The Panthers proved the offseason doubters wrong by winning in a similar fashion to many of their wins from 2013. They boast one of the most dominant front sevens in the league in any defensive scheme. The additions of Kelvin Benjamin and Jerricho Cotchery will keep the passing game relevant. "

And 6th on NFL.com which I'd speculate is probably the most "accurate" given the source http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000392135/article/nfl-power-rankings-week-2-49ers-rise-up-patriots-plummet

Quote :
"The Panthers playing a divisional opponent on the road with Derek Anderson ( not Cam Newton) as frontman was like Van Halen following up Roth and Hagar with Gary Cherone. Good luck with that one ... except, wait -- it worked out! Anderson made some plays. That aside, this defense can challenge Seattle's unit for the position as the best in football. And if Kelvin Benjamin can give the team more of Week 1 Kelvin Benjamin -- look out. "

Yeah I realize the power rankings don't mean shit, but I just feel like the Panthers aren't getting any respect. 12-4 last year, won the division. Dominated our Week 1 opponent, on the road, for 3+ quarters with our back up QB. Our defense looked as good as last year. The weaknesses that we expected (WR and OL) weren't particularly glaring.

I know you can't draw many conclusions from just week 1, but I just fail to see how you could've watched that game vs TB and come away thinking "yeah they're the 18th best team in the league"

I will see how the game this week goes, just because the media was on the TB nut ride doesn't mean they were actually good. Detroit will give us a much better barometer of where things stand in my opinion.

Lions will definitely be a tougher test for our defense than McClown and co., but they ain't scurred and neither am I. Overrated front line and a pretty shitty secondary. It's an ideal match-up for Cam's debut with the new receivers, especially at home after a game where we ran the ball effectively. Important game as far as the standings are concerned though, they figure to at least be a wild card contender so having that head to head in the bank would be big.
