Dear Mario,
In this crazy world we live in, someone you've never heard of or will probably never meet, feels, as a Liverpool fan, that its ok to write to you on an internet page to say welcome. But here I am, and there you are, somewhere, preparing for the Spurs game today.

But I'm writing this with real meaning when I say welcome, because you are now at a club that is different, and a club where the fans genuinely care about their team. Now I'm quite sure every fan of any team would say that, but at Liverpool, you're not just a player, you a Liverpool player and that means you're part of our family. You are now one of us, and you are now family (you're welcome round for tea anytime mate).

Welcome to a bond with a set of fans that will not just sing your name, but look out for you, welcome to a ground where the feeling is different, a sense of history, family and warmth, of times shared and where the outside world and press are invited in but never truly part of it, welcome to a place, a sense of place, a culture that sets us apart from the rest of them.

I've read about your upbringing, it must be very odd to have your everyday shared with millions, your history available for analysis and comment by strangers, and then to be called 'crazy' by these people who haven't a clue. They are the crazy folk, they are the ones who think its ok to write about other people as if they are professional pyschologists, mind readers and judges of character. Not you.

Well, welcome to a club that sets apart from that world. Liverpool is a club that does it differently, where the emotions are heartfelt not invented, the flags are fabric not plastic and the noise deafeningly sincere.

Liverpool's great players have all been special, and different and gifted and marvellous to watch, and all of them acknowledge the club has a special place in their hearts. You are brilliant at your job, wonderful to watch, and you arriving here has made a lot of people excited. You have the gift of creating emotion in men's hearts, that's the real meaning of football, and I hope I speak for all Liverpool fans when I say, have the best time of your life here, have a great career and score lots of goals sure, but really, truly, have a great life whilst at our club.

In some ways, Mario, welcome home.

I've never been on RAWK. I follow the RAWK meltdown twitter account is all.

Trust me that isn't as crigne worthy as LVG proclaiming United is still commited to youth and their academy today.

Hearing reports Balotelli snuck a gun into a friendly vs. Wolves today and shot Kenny Jackett in the head. Big, if true.

I just assumed he was called up for Italy. You'd assume on a Euro Qualifier break they'd call up their best players, no?

Not surprising as this same group struggled last year.

Fazio will be starting over Kaboul though.

Fletcher, Evans, Rafael, Januzaj are all first team members and came from United's academy.

Lingaard, Blackett, Wilson, Keane, and James have been given first team debuts this year. That is 4 established first team players and 5 academy players, out of which Blackett and Wilson definitely have a future here.

Give me 1 other team in the top 7 who can say this?

Its a lot easier to be ignorant though isn't it? Hating on United is so mainstream these days.

Can always count on you for a passionate defense of your team!

I'm sure United bright in the likes of Falcao, Di Maria, Herrera, Rojo and Shaw (admittedly young) with an eye to playing Keane/Wilson up top and running out Fletcher and Blackett every game.

It's ok man. They've earned being able to spend through decades of winning and building a brand. No shame in that. Just quit espousing some dumb SAF philosophy that has been taken to the cleaners by Van Gaal.

when did I say they are established stars like the others we have bought? Yes United has spent 150 million but that doesn't mean the kids won't get a chance either. Blackett has been the best defender after Jones and I won't be surprised if he gets playing time. Wilson will get playing time in smaller matche's as well. Fletcher will be used in the rotation. Reece James and Lingard will both get some playing time as well.

The point is these players still have a chance at breaking into the team. If Wilson and Blackett who are on the fringes take their chance they will certainly be starting over the new arrivals (especially if the new guys don't perform). Blind and Rojo will take time to blend in to the squad.

Januzaj is already a starter and will be featured in the rotation.

So no I don't believe the tradition has been destroyed. United, if they finish in the top 4, have bought their way in obviously but to say the academy is set aside is also unfair when there are 9 players out of a 25 man squad that are academy players.

it's very surprising to see such an obvious pattern in the distribution.

and how Rooney is outside it.

well, maybe not...they put the good players in the center. and Rooney sulks on the side.

Goes without saying but he is one of the top five highest paid players in the entire world... I hope he puts up numbers.

Can we compare him to similar paid players like Messi and Ronaldo.

It's not rocket science why people criticize him. When you get paid that much, the goalposts move... and that is completely fair.

wtf are you talking about? I didn't say Wayne Rooney was a horrible player.

I mean, I guess you might draw that as being implied by my post, but it's a ridiculous enough concept that it didn't even occur to me that someone might take it seriously.

I was just saying Rooney's sulking on the side because he's sulky, not because he's not awesome.

Ridiculous, I repeat. Wayne Rooney is the best English footballer of his generation, obviously.

yes, Rooney has done some ridiculous shit in his career, as have other great players. and he's experienced some ridiculous misses in his career, as one must do when one takes hundreds upon hundreds of attempts

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZGmu5kb0Vs

btu I don't see how one argue that Rooney isn't a great footballer; that flies in the face of logic.

Most of England that isn't a Man United fan. If he has a quiet match its as if the world has ended. People expect too much of a good player on an overall terribly managed team.

Perhaps some people think he's past his prime, or that it's been too long since he's had an excellent run of form, or that he has lots of quiet games...but nobody thinks he's shit. Anybody who thinks that really knows nothing about football.

I guess my position is that there's no point (from my view) in posting Rooney's stats from the past 5 years, because everyone already knows that he's good.

Now, if you're trying to maintain that he's currently world class, that table doesn't help your case

Is United the most unbalanced team in history? They have the best front line in the Prem (and it's not close when healthy) and probably a bottom five to seven defense and CMs. Their games are going to be LOL-worthy all year long. It's going to be like watching Fifa Ultimate Team.

Also is Jones hurt? He left England game early no?

physio room has no return date for jones

even if he doesn't miss any games he is bound to hurt himself and be out a few weeks.

defense is far behind in quality compared to the attack but they are not as bad as you say. They have only conceded 3 goals in the league

Definitely got this marked for the end of the season conversation. Can't wait.

Shaw, Rafael, Rojo, Blind, Jones, Smalling.

Bottom 7!

To put this into context the defense last year was the 5th best in terms of goals conceded and 7th in clean sheet. Yes this defense, which has most certainly improved on last year in terms of personnel is now all of a sudden 13th. Yes I am the one that's delusional of course.

I marked this one from last August.

Quote :
"Fourth? Ok. The same team that won the league by 11 points last year will finish fourth this year. The delusion of that post is hilarious. Arsenal haven't spent and their squad is extremely thin. Getting Suarez alone won't make Arsenal a threat for the title. I love how everyone is assuming United won't challenge this year. I bet all the papers are disappointed at today's result, can't start printing about the demise of United until that first loss obviously. I love it. "
