"75b vs. 75b SA"

Are you referring to the CZ? Fumbler is probably more familiar with that gun than myself. I have a CZ 75B. I think it's a pretty sweet shooter compared to the 9mm I've shot before purchasing.

If you are talking about trigger action: There is quite a bit of take-up when firing in SA. It shoots nicely. I know that if you purchase the 75 SA the trigger has a pre- and post- travel adjustment which can be useful.

I use it for HD and I bring it to the range every now and then. If I were to choose one solely for the range or some type of marksmanship function, I'd go with the SA with adjustable trigger.

^^ Yeah, I probably should have explained that. That's what I'm thinking unless I happen to come across a good deal on a non-SA 75b on armslist/gunbroker. Thank you sir.

This comment referred to the 75B not the SA-only.

I've seen one or two 75B on armslist, but they go quick. Never seen an SA-only on there. Last gun show in Raleigh, they had a total of 3 in the entire building. Your best bet for a 75B is on gunbroker. If you see a good deal on an SP-01 or a shadow, let me know.

"75b vs. 75b SA -- I don't have enough muscle memory with one or the other to have a real 'preference' on old habits, so with that being said, what do you guys think? Just punching holes in paper and a home defense weapon (though given my chances of that, I'm primarily buying it as a range gun). I'm thinking the SA but am open and would at least like to ask."

I like the idea of a DA first shot with no safety, so my SP-01 is the Tactical model that has a decocker with no safety (much like my two Sigs). I feel like it adds an extra level of safety in a high stress situation. For home defense my personal choice in a 75B would probably be the 75BD decocker only.

I don't really like the method of decocking a regular 75B. Even though I feel like I have a lot of experience handling and shooting guns, holding onto the hammer and pulling the trigger still makes me a little bit nervous.
If I owned a 75B I'd probably just keep it cocked and locked to avoid the decocking. If you feel this way too then you might as well get the 75B SA and have a trigger that doesn't have so much pretravel.
If you're ok with manually decocking a gun then get the regular 75B. IMO having a decocked gun is never a bad thing when a gun is stored for defense.

So while out shopping around for a carry piece, I ended up with a Del-Ton AR-15 from North Raleigh Guns (seriously, I love those guys)

16"
centerpoint red/green
hogue grip
UTC forend/hardware
3 steel mags + softcase
+more

Thing's in pristine condition and has hardly been used. Trigger is crisp as hell, can't wait to go shooting

^^ Thanks a lot. So, basically my options have come down to:

(1) Brand new, CZ 75b (SA or not) for $500 + $20 FFL
(2) My buddy has one of the old 1996 turkish contract CZ 75b guns. It has some visible wear on the outside but mechanically works great. The only noticeable difference in function/form compared to the new ones are the grips. He wants $400 + $20 FFL.

Is it worth the extra 100 bones to get a new gun -- with knowing that one is cosmetically superior, as well as much newer, but they'll both shoot similar? Here's a pic of his:

Opinions appreciated! I'm awful at decisions like this.

How much do you trust your buddy? If you don't think he'd try to screw you then $400 seems ok or a tiny bit on the high side. It doesn't appear to have a lot of wear on the outside. If the internals are in the same shape then it's probably a decent/good buy. Do you know how many rounds have gone through it?

Personally I'd save money and get the used one as long as it was mechanically good and didn't have more than a few hundred rounds through it. A couple thousand rounds through it could be ok at that price if he kept really good care of the internals.
With a used gun you won't feel so bad when you accidentally drop it and scratch it.

BTW, if the new gun has night sights then it'll be a better deal. The half life of tritium is around 12 years. Past 12 years they usually don't glow enough to be useful. If the used one has night sights they shouldn't add any value compared to regular sights.

^ I trust him quite a bit, well, at least with guns and properly maintaining them. He's a bit of a collector and has around 40-50 in total (including he and his dad's stash). They;re mostly older handguns but I'm not overly concerned.

I figure that at $400 shipped if I really dont like the gun, I can turnaround and sell it for about the same price and not lose any skin on the deal. So, it's pretty low risk and I've always wanted a CZ.

I'll just put it this way...they had it listed at 850 which from what I understand was a great buy from a dealer

also, I picked up a G32 from Phsdc today and they had a base-model S&W AR15 for around 650...also nice price if anyone is interested

I recommend all budget ARs from Palmetto State Armory - great products, all mil-spec, cold hammer forged barrels and lowers from FN (which supplies barrels to much of the military) - an FN plant is located right down the road from PSA in Columbia, South Carolina.

http://palmettostatearmory.com/

You can get a full AR for $650 shipped from them, or have them build you a custom gun

how hard/expensive is it to build a piston AR 15? I am looking to build a 9mm AR pistol and then a 223 rifle... but I was wondering how much more I was gonna drop on building a piston vs gas rifle. Any good kits out there? is this an over-ambitious goal for a first time assembler?

Is there something in particular you're trying to accomplish? I've never really seen the point. Sure, it keeps a little bit of gunk out of the receiver, but it's neither hard to clean nor disruptive to function anyway. I'd save my money and just get something that will matter like a better trigger or optics.

i still haven't figured out what i wanna do for an upper

i was just about to pull the trigger on a RRA 20" coyote rifle upper: http://rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=387

but then i got to thinking maybe i'd like a 16" midlength for weight and maneuverability advantages, but the RRA 16" coyote carbine is, well, carbine length. does it make much difference in performance? will i notice the weight/maneuverability difference between 16" and 20"?

tell me what you would choose for coyote calling and other hunting where you walk around a lot. give me links to actual parts, complete uppers or just barrels.

^^^^gas piston uppers handle being suppressed much better.

Ruger and LWRC make a gas piston AR, which you could consider instead of building one yourself. I've got a Ruger SR556 that I've been happy with.

I'm a certified GLOCK armorer....
Night Sights- Pick a brand, they all have their followers.
Trigger Upgrade- What are you looking for? This can range from leave-it-the-hell-alone to $300. The trigger makes up a lot of the 'internals' of the glock. Trigger upgrades range from putting in the smooth face trigger, + or - connectors, and trigger spring, to glockworx(?) new fulcrum triggers.
Light- Streamlight TLR1 or Surefire X300. These are the most common. I use a TLR-1 on mine.

The only plug I have for aftermarket night sights is that I like the Meprolight bi-color night sights on my XD. They still look great after 4 years on the gun.

I personally love the Glock trigger.
I prefer the '-' connector and standard trigger spring.
This is called the 3.5# trigger. It really comes to about 4.5#.
I like the take-up (which is disengaging the safeties), then the nice little push to make if fire, as well as the short reset on the trigger.
When I teach new shooters, I call it the take up, and the click (noise from dry firing).

I have a TLR-1 and I think it's much better than the Surefire simply because it's so much cheaper without sacrificing any quality or output.

Good advice with the two colors. If I was gonna buy some now I'd get a green front and whatever other color for the rear.
Green tritium supposedly lasts longer than the other colors, so if you had to pick between the front and rear sight the front is always more important.

Is she going to carry it or will it be a house gun?
If it's for the house then you don't want to get a real small gun because small guns are more difficult to shoot accurately.

If she can pull the DA trigger on a revolver then I'd look at getting a revolver just because of the simplicity (not being sexist, this is a real issue with some women). You should get a 38 Special or a 357 Magnum (but load the 357 mag with 38 Special ammo).
Look at the Ruger Single Six, S&W model 60, or the equivalently sized Taurus or Rossi. A 4" barrel would be good for a house gun.

If she plans on carrying it one day then look at the S&W j frames or Taurus 85. You can get those in aluminum and scandium frames to save weight, just keep in mind the less a gun weighs the harder it is to control during recoil.

I have both; I really like the beam on the Surefire and its just more streamlined then the TLR1. The TLR1's switch is easier for me to manipulate than the Surefire. However, the rail screws in my X300 fell out so its worthless right now.

In other news, I'm think a Sig P232 is my future if I can find someone to buy my Glock 27.

paerabol I've got a Scherer Connector 3-1/2 lb connector in my G27. I love it. If you want to look/shoot it some time, just let me know. For about $5, it does wonders on lightening up the tigger. It's not as "crisp" on the break, which I love the stock connector for, however, it's still a B+/A- compared to an A+ stock connector in that aspect. The Scherer connector makes the two-stage trigger feel like one long single action pull.

after doing a bunch of dry-firing last night to really learn the trigger, I've come to appreciate it...and eventually want to try to learn to rapid-fire it off the break point. I still wouldnt mind feeling your trigger out though, did you have the scherer connector on there when I shot your g27 a few months ago?

No. That was a factory trigger. For ~$6 I thought I'd try something different. Overall, I wouldn't say it's better or worse than stock. It's just different.

Anyone pick up anything at the gun show this weekend?

I just went in for some .357 SIG, ended up getting some Prvi Partizan 7.62x51 as well.

The prices haven't been that good on guns from what I've seen. $500 for a Norinco SKS? $800 for a Saiga 12? What the hell man.

nope! i sanded a couple of areas but it fit nice and tight.

mag floorplate isnt perfectly square with bottom of stock but all these old guns are a little bit different from one another.

didnt get to shoot it this weekend but it shoulders much more comfortably than it did previously. once i see how well it shoots the variety of ammo i have ill decide if im going to keep it and what ammo exactly im going to stockpile for it.

since ive sporterized it a bit now peep sights arent out of the question (mojo).

JK, what kind of prices did you come across for the .357sig? I bought out the rest of georgia arms' loads at $16/50, most of another guys' stock because I did some name dropping and he dropped his to $20/box the rest were some defensive rounds from a small armorer whose name is eluding me atm, $23.50/box. all in all a hell of a lot better than I'd have paid otherwise but damn this is an expensive cartridge
