Impressive how UNC continues to pull in 5* recruits. They just got some 5* DT that I believe used to be committed to Pitt. With all the coaching stuff in flux, UNC found a way to squeeze in I guess.

Congrats new recruits! Bad news.. I know we promised to pay you guys, but if you hadn't heard we got busted by the NCAA so we can't fulfill that part of the deal anymore. Also, you will have to do your own school work as well that nice tutor lady is unable to do it for you anymore.

Furthermore, since we are banned from postseason play likey the best trips you will be taking are to FSU or Miami to get your asses beat... Sorry about that. Oh and half of you may get cut because they pulled a bunch of our scholarships so I suggest you pickup jobs in the meantime just in case.

Welcome to Carolina you made an excellent choice!!

Seems the biggest fuss is over Simmons' commitment to UNC when he never visited.

From twitter:

McKeesport coach Jim Ward said, “We had a meeting behind closed doors, & that is all I can say. The rest stays there.” RE Simmons 5* DT to UNC

its kinda like what lou holtz said on the SMU documentary:

(paraphrasing) I had a kid that was committed to us, then one day he calls me up and says, coach, I think I am going to SMU. Holtz: SMU, you've never even visited there. Player: I think that's where I need to be.

"UNC player charged with DWI in Burlington traffic stop; passenger faces drug charges
Times-News

North Carolina football player A.J. Blue has been charged by Burlington police with driving while impaired, while the sister of one of his star teammates faces drug charges in connection with the same traffic stop.

Burlington police stopped Blue, 21, of North Ransom Street, Gastonia, in a 1999 Dodge at about 2:31 a.m. Sunday on Maple Avenue near Avon Avenue, according to warrants. He’s listed as Anthony Jerwade Blue on warrants.

“He was swerving from line to line and following the vehicle in front of him too closely,” said Burlington police Assistant Chief Chris Verdeck.

When the officer asked Blue to get out of the car, he allegedly tipped an open beer can onto the floorboard.

“He kicked it out with his feet,” Verdeck said.

Blue, a running back, had three passengers — two men and a woman — in the car. Dekendra Ann Jones, 19, of Kennedy Court, Burlington, was in the back seat, and she drew the attention of the officer.

“The officer saw her reach down to the floorboard and asked her to step out,” Verdeck said. “She refused to get out and was verbally uncooperative.”

Police smelled what they thought was marijuana coming from the car. A search was done and a plastic container was allegedly found inside Jones’ pocketbook. Inside the container police found 5.4 grams of marijuana, .9 grams of psilocybin (brown mushrooms) and a grinder with marijuana residue, Verdeck said.

Blue, who blew a .12, was charged with driving while impaired, failing to maintain lane control, following too closely and open container after consuming. He was placed in Alamance County jail under $500 bond and later released.

Kevin Best, a spokesman for the football team at North Carolina, said Thursday that coach Butch Davis is aware of the charges that Blue faces. Best said discipline will be handled internally.

Dekendra Jones is the sister of Dwight Jones, a standout receiver at North Carolina. Dwight Jones, who recently completed his junior season with the Tar Heels, was honored Saturday night at Cummings High School, where he was inducted into the Cummings Sports Hall of Fame, with at least two of his North Carolina assistant coaches attending the event.

Dekendra Jones was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony possession of schedule I controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting public officer and consume alcohol under 21. She was placed in jail under $6,000 bond.

The other men in the car who police have not identified were not charged. Blue and Dekendra Jones both made bond and were released from jail Sunday morning. Blue is expected in Alamance County District Court on March 7. Dekendra Jones’ court date is Feb. 22."

"Dont worry Burlington Police Department. We will handle this one ourselves..."

Brian Baker, the new UNC D-line coach who's been there all of a month, looks like he might be trying to get out already.

Yeah I'm just saying it seems strange in the sense that they magically land this 5* DT out of nowhere on signing day and then the D-line coach leaves two days later

Seems Blakey to me

Guess he saw enough of what was about to go down at UNC...

Quote :
"2:43 p.m.

Looks like the North Carolina Tar Heels are in the market for another defensive line coach one month after filling the position.

According to Darin Gantt of the Rock Hill Herald, Brian Baker accepted an offer from the Dallas Cowboys to become their defensive line coach. Baker called the decision "a hard one," and that he "really fell for," the staff and players at UNC.

Greg Barnes of InsideCarolina expressed that expectation on 99.9FM The Fan. The Tar Heels began pursuing Baker in November when he was with the Carolina Panthers. After the Panthers fired John Fox and went through staff changes, North Carolina rekindled their pursuit after the Music City Bowl. According to Barnes, Baker was still holding out for possible NFL jobs, but decided on taking the North Carolina position to keep his family in Charlotte.

However, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones eventually came calling with an offer he couldn't refuse. Money talks, Baker walked.

UNC and the DL coach Baker are looking more and more shady.

Turns out, he never signed a contract. No clue if that means he was allowed to be a representative of the University/football team. Also, probably didn't have enough time to study, take and pass the recruiting exam required by the NCAA.

Shom own, NCAA, let's take a look at this.

Someone call 99.9 the fan today (I think while Colin is on?) and ask him what he thinks about it, we need to get this to the attention of some NCAA staff

^^A lot of coaches work (in the early stages) without being on an actual signed contract. It happens frequently, even though it does seem strange.

The guy stayed around to finish an assignment, it sounds like the guy was just being professional.
