True, but probably not recruiting as you have to pass the exam and there are restrictions on who can represent the university during recruitment, who can contact players, etc. If you don't sign a contract, you aren't technically an employee of the university. You may be "hired", but you're not official.

I have a question....

How is it that for the last 8 months, or however long, all Butch had to say about their situation was he did not know? He "didn't know" what his players were doing. He "didn't know" what his coaches were doing. He "didn't know" what his tutor was doing.

Now all of the sudden when it comes to his recruits he knows there will not be a bowl ban. He knows there will not be a loss of scholarships. He knows there will not be any sanctions.

Dumbass seems to have forgotten about the BLAKE ISSUE and how that WILL effect the program. Having a coach on an agent's payroll is absolutely LOIC and that's where the bowl bans, etc come into play.

no it's really not. it "looks" bad, and that was the main reason he was asked to step down. unless the ncaa can prove he was being paid to funnel players to wichard, or paying players directly, there's nothing in the bylaws that says he can't do that. where he might get into trouble personally is tax evasion, but that's his problem.

See this is something that the IC crowd can't get into their heads. This is the NCAA not the US Judicial system. They are the judge jury and executioner and really do not have to answer to anyone as far as "proof" or not. It wouldn't surprise me if by the time this is all over MA and Blake are both determined to be "agents".

But that tweet from Thorp was stupid. I'm sure he meant it as a joke and in light-hearted manner, but as Chancellor you just don't say/tweet that.

As for the investigation...

I agree with a poster earlier on this page that said the NCAA is not part of the US Judicial system...they don't have to prove shit. If it smells like shit, looks like shit that's enough for the NCAA...they don't have to prove that it actually is shit. And the whole Wichard/Blake thing definitely looks bad. If the Blake/Wichard connection had never been made then I wouldn't have been surprised to see UNC's program go pretty much unpunished. But with that connection, I really see no way that the NCAA does not punish the Holes.
