Parker doesn't have a committable offer, so I'm not surprised he doesn't have us in his top 2. He also said we really weren't even talking to him and from what I can gather, if we only take 1 this year, it's going to be another big guy(Cothron, Leslie). 6/22/2009 9:03:45 AM |

^ I'll never say never when it comes to recruiting, but yeah pretty much. Leslie not mentioning us as a school he's considering in that HSH article just confirmed what I figured to be true IMO. No hard feelings tho, b/c if I'm CJ Leslie I'm looking for:
1) Playing time - check 2) NBA preparation (solid coaching staff) - check 3) Academics (no issues w/ qualifying) - check 4) Exposure (i.e. good team in a big market/conference that's capable of winning the NCAAs) - check... except the part about being a chamionship calibur team...which hopefully will change in the next few years, but not in time to land CJ.
Also, I hate that State "can't" offer Parker at this point. The kid's talent is on par w/ Brown and Harrow, and I've heard that Parker might stick around for 4 yrs.Too bad State needs a big guy so much. 6/22/2009 11:20:59 AM |

i dont think its so much that we "cant" offer parker as maybe the staff having different priorities than us right now. maybe they really like scott wood at the 3 or something. idk. but if I was asked to put money down on us bringing in Parker or a guy like Damontre Harris who word that we're on him is just starting to get out...I'd bet on Harris 6/22/2009 2:36:39 PM |

thats not my opinion of him...parker is nice but not that nice. Brown and Harrow are really special. Parker will be a nice player but not as important as either of those two.
lowe hasnt seen parker in person yet and thats one reason but the biggest reasons are CJL and Cothron

^right, cause he wasn't a 5 star recruit coming out of high school or anything. He also improved his scoring by a whopping 2.3 ppg from his freshman year to his sophomore year. Do I even need to mention that his FG % and 3pt shooting % dropped from his freshman to sophomore season? Really I was commenting about Herb failing to develop big men, but if you want to spout some ignorant shit I'll gladly call you out.

Haha, EASY! I wasn't coming after you.
With that said, to the best of my knowledge, every great (or even very good) big man UNC had has been a 5-star, highly-touted prospect. Also, that Pendergraph kid from ASU was a damn good big man in the games I watched.

Pendergraph became a pretty damn good player. Also, most of UNC's players come in as 5 star recruits. But in general I agree that UNC players tend to become great college players under Roy. Still remains to be seen if they become great NBA players though (hold Paul Pierce). 6/22/2009 4:05:52 PM |

dude he was good before Herb got there, he averaged 10.9 points and 6.1 rebounds in 25 minutes his freshman year. You people need to get some facts and come back and see me. It should probably also be noted that both Pendergraph and Harden disappeared in the NCAA tourney loss to Syracuse (in typical Sendekian fashion).6/22/2009 4:15:16 PM |
Maverick1024 All American 4866 Posts user info edit post |
I watched him plenty before Herb got there. He wasn't bad, but he wasn't very good either. I'm not saying Herb was responsible for him becoming much (MUCH) better, just that he improved tremendously in his final two years.
Also, you do realize that his numbers were decent early on because he was the ONLY option the team had down low, right?

haha, sure you did...all 5 ASU games that were televised that season. I don't see how you can call 10.9 ppg and 6.1 rpg not very good especially considering he was a freshman. It's becoming clear to me that you don't actually know anything about college basketball.
Quote : | "just that he improved tremendously in his final two years." |
His production went up but he played more minutes too, 10.9 and 6.1 in 25 minutes vs. 14.5 and 8.2 in 32 minutes is NOT a huge improvement.
Quote : | "Also, you do realize that his numbers were decent early on because he was the ONLY option the team had down low, right? " |
jesus dude, you're only digging yourself a deeper hole. Clearly last year's team had MORE options in the post like Boateng and Kraidon Woods right? I'll give you a hint, they combined to average 2.5 points and 2.1 rebounds.
I'm done arguing with you since you clearly had NO IDEA what you're talking about.

If you're trying to say Pendergraph, the freshman, was anywhere near the same player as Pendergraph, the senior, then you're wrong. That is all.

ah, yet another well reasoned argument backed up with facts. I think he was definitely better his senior year than he was his freshman year but acting like he sucked and then Herb came along and he became awesome is completely ridiculous. I also like how you claim to have watched Pendergraph plenty his freshman season, which is obviously a lie.6/22/2009 4:44:52 PM |
Maverick1024 All American 4866 Posts user info edit post |
Who the hell said he sucked? Saying he wasn't great and saying he sucked are two different things.
And I watched ASU play a few times that year, but saying I watched him plenty is a bit of a stretch. From what I saw, Pendergraph's athleticism was obvious and he had great fundamentals when it came to rebounding. Still, he had hardly any offense to speak of, aside from a hook shot that would fall every now and some garbarge dump-ins off offensive boards. He had no strength either, so he was pretty poor defensively. Once he added some strength and expanded his game, he became much better.
No one is giving Herb complete credit for that. I'm just saying the guy obviously improved, a lot.

you said "he wasn't very good" which is bullshit, and I've already posted evidence to the contrary. Do you know how many schools would kill for a guy who would average 10.9 points and 6 rebounds his freshman year? All of them. You also made some retarded claim about how his numbers were inflated his freshman year because he was "their only option in the post" even though that was true his entire career there.
Quote : | "And I watched him three times, which I'm sure is more than you." |
again I'm going to call bullshit, I've hated ASU longer than you've known that the school existed...I pull for them to lose every chance I get.

What difference does this make? If you're the only option in the post your freshman year, you'll have good stats (he did). If you're the only option your senior year, you'll have good stats (he did). But fine, you win. Pendergraph only improved a tad throughout his career, and Herb will always suck.

to me, wells seems like the type of player who flies under the radar in HS, ends up at clemson and does well in college
except b/c he's at WOG and has connections he's been noticed already, so itll be interesting to see how he devlops. I can't say I'm super excited about a guard that has NO jumpshot, but at the same time I want an athletic team that hustles and plays defense...which he'd be great for 7/7/2009 10:25:50 PM |
