you mean when his coach came out and said in fifty different ways that he expected brown to qualify, but didn't actually say that he had qualified? or how about the fact that he hadn't yet qualified when everyone else in the country had? i'm not saying it was a sure thing, but there was certainly smoke.

There is no bright side to this, no matter how you spin it. Anyone who says otherwise loses all cred.

1) None of that constitutes proof. Yes, Brown qualifying wasn't a sure thing, but we were all led to believe that he would in all likelihood. All your doing is berating the rest of us for believing hat we were told. I'm so sorry none of us thought it appropriate to assume the worst.

2) The reality is that the team will struggle a bit more then they otherwise would without Brown. His absence cannot and should be construed as a "good thing." The best we can hope for is that Mays, Williams, Javi, and Degand step up and fill the void. Hopefully Scott Wood will be ready to contribute sooner and more often than expected. God-willing the team will pull together and work even harder to make up for Brown's absence. And in the meantime, I hope that Brown will stay committed, join the team next year, and be a better man for having dealt with this situation.

THAT is "looking at the bright side." If that means I'm an idiot, then so be it.

Wait until the year after next year.

The reality of this is that we aren't going to be able to fairly judge Lowe until after next year and we still have no clue about his coaching/player development aptitude.

Basically this has put us literally right back to where we were with Herb circa 2001...

When a Mets fan can't be optimistic about the upcoming season, you can lose all hope. We're fucked.

I'm disappointed we won't have Brown just as much as anyone else, but let's be realistic here, we weren't set up to have a big year one way or the other. We were going to have a super-young team and this would have been a growing season. Now we'll just have to do it without Brown. Javi and Mays will run the point and life will go on. Brown will now come in with Harrow and one more guy(a PF/C) and this time next year we'll all be giddy about that class coming in.

Yes it sucks, but I still think Brown will be great for our program, just sucks that his arrival will be delayed a year. But on the bright side, I thought Brown and Harrow would be more immediate impact guys, like they would see PT immediately and adjust better than our other recruits, so when they do arrive our other guys will be prepared. My thoughts originally were .500 in the ACC would be a solid goal for the team, and I still think that will be a solid goal with our young squad.

Exactly. As good as Brown will be, he won't immediately come in and be "the guy." Hodge wasn't even the guy his freshman year. If we were one player away from being great, I'd be more upset. But we're not, and we'll likely be a mediocore team with or without Brown.

I'm guessing CJ takes the 2G spot and we let JT and Wood take the 3G. Can' believe I'm saying this, but having Ferg next year would have been nice.

why? so he can hang out on the wing the entire game waiting for someone to feed him the ball at the end of the possession? so he can get matched up with smaller players twice as athletic and struggle to contain them? i would think josh davis could put up at least a similar performance.

I think people are vastly underrating the value of experience in this conference. It is VERY rare to see a freshman come in and play calm and collected basketball at this level. It almost never happens. Especially when you are talking about guard play.

Having TWO green guards that we will have to lean heavily on in 2010 is just not an optimal situation. It would have been perfect for Zo to come in here and get a year of experience under his belt without much pressure with expectations.

There is, quite simply, no bright side to this. None. At all. It hurts us this year and most important it hurts us next year...

** and God damn it, can we delete the first post in this thread? I fucking hate having to read about CJ Leslie every damn time I make a post...

i think the problem here is that people do not understand the goal of a college basketball program. the goal is not to have an awesome stretch of 2 years when brown and harrow and juniors and seniors together. the goal is to have a steady flow of talent for years to come.

I'm going to hold of on killing Zo until I get the whole story... but yeah, this seems really bad. I can't blame Lowe though, this kid was recruited heavily by nearly everyone including my second favorite team...

^^ they also think you can just plug talent in and it will perform at the top level. This kid isn't Carmello or D-Rose...

You are obviously missing this kid's achievement. He trolled the hell out of this school. He was a shining beacon of what the future of this program could be for about 18 months. Then pulled the rug right out from under our feet in a "yeah, i committed to nc state... j/k" style. If he ends up committing to UNC, he will receive the status of ultimate troll. Keeping the first post is like hanging his number in the rafters. He deserves it.

With Javi being a senior in 2010, there's a good chance Harrow doesn't start anyway. Even if Harrow works into the starting lineup, he won't be our sole option at PG. At SG, C.J. seems to be a solid player, and he'll be a junior by then. That gives us two upperclassman in the rotation.

Everybody knows not having Brown next year will suck ass, whether they readily admit it or not. But essentially repeating "THERE IS NO BRIGHT SIDE, WE ARE FUCKKKED" isn't doing any good either.

bright side: the next coach will get 3 years of Brown and Harrow so we dont have to make "wait til he gets players that fit his system" excuses (bc those two could play anywhere) and can fire him after their senior year

Basically this. My only hope for the upcoming season was that we would tank hard enough to get him fired since he couldn't play the "not my players" card anymore. Now this bullshit is going to buy him another year.

yeah, I think firing Sid after this season would set us back even farther...we want Brown and Harrow to get on campus and then fire Sid (assuming he hasn't turned things around) that way they would be way less likely to transfer since they would have to sit out a year. Then we could hire a good coach and he would have 3 years potentially with Brown and Harrow and probably a decent frontcourt too.

I know, I'm such a shitty fan. I should just keep pinning my hopes on recruits who never step foot on campus. Thank god we kept Lowe around, or we would have never had John Wall, C.J. Leslie, and Lorenzo Brown.

^^I would take Barnes definitely, but I don't see why he would come in 2 years but wouldn't in 2006. Really I want Sean Miller, but that looks like it's never going to happen, especially the way he's been recruiting at UofA. Maybe we could snag Bruce Pearl or Jeff Capel.

The Leslie argument is probably valid.

We never had a shot at Wall and Brown's not qualifying had absolutely nothing to do with Sidney Lowe.

So, great points.

And anyway, he's still pulling in great recruits. I'm sorry he isn't pulling in all the great recruits.

Why stop there?

Obviously any elite coach should feel honored to be handed the reigns to our basketball program. I think guys such as Rick Pitino, Bill Self, Tom Izzo, and Jim Calhoun would be falling over themselves to coach at a storied program like NCSU. We need to fire Sidney yesterday and make it happen!

I mean let's stop arguing about what happened in 2006. That has nothing to do with NCSU and everything to do with that incompetent fool, Lee Fowler, and the way he botched the coaching search. If we got rid of him too and got a real athletic director, we'd have one of those guys coaching our team TOMORROW!
