The cash games are impossible to beat. Too many loose players calling 5x-7x preflop with any two cards. The tournies on the other hand are money. He runs them twice a month. I cashed in back to back nights 2 months ago.
And you CAN'T outplay anyone in his cash games. They WILL call you.

isnt that what you should want?11/7/2006 3:04:04 PM |
linoleum24 All American 848 Posts user info edit post |
Yes and No. I was playing a .25/.50 game there one night. 10 person table. 8 people in the hand pre flop. I am in the BB and look down at AA. I raise it to either $4 or $4.50, one of the two. Every person calls. Flop comes J high with two spades. The hand resulted in a 3 way all in.
This is not what you want. Its almost impossible to WAIT for the nuts in games like these, because someone will have a one up on you.
I despise games that are that loose, and also games which are rock tight. I have yet to find a decent cash game in Raleigh. The only cash games I have enjoyed playing have been on Stars, or at the Trop. 11/7/2006 3:08:36 PM |

I like playing with people like that, you just have to get in the mindset. If you're playing with a table full of donks, you just have to lay back and rock up. 11/7/2006 3:09:02 PM |
linoleum24 All American 848 Posts user info edit post |
I agree with that philosphy. But when a 10 person table sees 6-8 people per flop, it is almost impossible to ROCK UP, because someone will always have outs. Does anyone see what I'm getting at?
I understand a game full of loose players, when 3-4 people are going for a flop, but double that, then try to calculate your cards against theirs. 11/7/2006 3:12:31 PM |

I like playing with people like that, but I hate it when there is a preflop raise 10X the bb every other hand. 11/7/2006 3:13:14 PM |
linoleum24 All American 848 Posts user info edit post |
I hate that too. But even at games like this, people call 10x with anything. I mean honestly, $5 to see a flop is nothing, even if you are relating it to a 1/2, .5/1.00, or .25/.50 11/7/2006 3:14:41 PM |
pilgrimshoes Suspended 63151 Posts user info edit post |
yeah a game like that turns to a crap shoot when youve got multiple callers of a 10x bb raise,
100bb stacks are wayyyy too shallow.
and then with short buys its even worse 11/7/2006 3:17:47 PM |

bgmims All American 5895 Posts user info edit post |
No, I see what you're saying. When its that loose, its hard for you to actually dominate a hand, because so many people will play it.
I guess if that many people are willing to hit the flop AND continue with it, you'd have a hard time playing. 11/7/2006 3:20:38 PM |

That's is pretty much the main reason I have yet to go.
I e-mailed the guy a half dozen times about this. All I wanted him to say is we rake X% up to $Y. Here's the best response I could get from him.
"On tuesdays we try to cover expenses (prizes, drinks, and food), so generally $5 per hand with the 10% rule as a guidline. Obviously we won't take 5 out of a 15 pot. If the pot gets HUGE (like 300+), we'll take up to 8...but that happens once, maybe twice a night."

I wasn't going to comment on this b/c they're nice guys and probably won't appreciate this being out in the open, but karim already let the cat outta the bag so I may as well add on.
I've played there for the last 2 months or so, it's a fun game but the rake is crippling. I paid close attention to it the last time I was there and they were taking 10-25+%, it was very inconsistant and varied between dealers. If there was $10 in there on the flop they'd only grab $1, but once it got up to $25-$30 on the turn they'd often grab another $4. They also appear to cap it at a whopping $8, I saw multiple $80+ pots getting raked that amount at .25/.50. When I asked about it privately, I was informed that there were no set guidlines for their rake but they try to keep it around 10% with an $8 cap.
At the .25/.50 level the average buy-in is only like $50 and they're taking such a huge percentage of the total money off the table that you'd have to be Phil Ivey to stay ahead of that rake. Think about a typical 6-7 hour night there, there's maybe 25 people buying in for an average of $75 each(adjusting for rebuys). By the end of the night they've probably raked close to 1/3 of the total buy-ins off the table leaving enough for very few winners. Out It's a little better at .5/1(same exact rake structure btw), but there's still not a casino in the country that has the balls to rake like they do. 11/7/2006 4:00:00 PM |

Where is your heavy bet? Looks to me like you raise $8 into a pot that was $17. One guy is risking $8 to win $25 and another guy is risking $8 to win $32. Of course they are going to call if they have a draw. 11/8/2006 12:16:48 AM |

I don't mind the play, but he said he made a heavy bet. I assume he did this because he put one of them on a draw that could tie or beat him. If you think you have the best hand or the nut draw you aren't going to make a "heavy bet". I assume he was trying this tactic in order to scare out a draw, which was the main subject of my reply. 11/8/2006 12:24:39 AM |

what's the size of your bankroll? It's probably too small to play at that level

I only raised preflop to isolate the limper that I had been beating up on with c-bets for quite a while, big blind foiled my plans but I bet the rag flop anyways. I should have raised the river. I didn't because I was up against a fellow LAG who could have either backed into a flush, legitamitely hit with 79, or we were splitting. Also because I felt that if he didn't have me beat or tied, then he had absolutely nothing and was just betting because I checked the turn(definately a possibility for this guy). As it stood, he backed into two pair and he might have called a value raise. Anyways.
