yeah, not sure if they actually stick to it but that's what was reported prior to them doing away with NE2 and annual upgrades.

http://www.droid-life.com/2011/01/04/more-details-on-verizons-new-upgrade-policy/

Quote :
"1. All customers who activate / upgrade on a qualifying plan prior to January 16th, 2011 are enrolled in NE2 (New Every 2) and eligible to use the NE2 discount for up to six months from the date they become eligible.
2. Any customer who uses an NE2 credit or Annual Upgrade after January 16, 2011 will no longer be eligible for either program. On March 6, 2011, VZW systems will be updated to reflect this.
3. All customers who exercise the NE2 or Annual Upgrade option on or after January 16th will receive a letter notifying them that it was their last NE2 or Annual Upgrade.
4. Business customers continue to receive either the two-year corporate matrix tiered device pricing or two-year retail device pricing per contract.
5. Customers will now be eligible for promotional pricing after 20 months on a 2-year contract and 10 months on a 1-year contract."

Not the correct LTE frequency though. Maybe they can change that to 700MHz and ditch the snapdragon for the Exynos.

"If there was ever going to be a chance that we see a slimmed down 4G LTE Samsung Galaxy S II here in the states on Verizon, we needed to see something like this leak overseas. This is a very good sign, folks. According to Korean site IT Tong, an SGS2 variant is headed to one of their carriers in the very near future sporting a 4.5? Super AMOLED Plus screen, 16GB of internal storage, 8MP rear and 2MP front cameras, Gingerbread, and a whopping 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon APQ8060 processor. If you didn’t just get excited about that…"

"but the difference between verizon's 3G and LTE 4G is pretty significant

besides, i couldn't care less whether they call it 4G or "raffi's super duper high-speed banana phone"...it's significantly faster than 3G and the tech isn't interchangeable, so getting a phone NOW with only 3G just seems silly to me"

that's exactly my point.

Quote :
"I suppose if you tether or have the need for much higher speeds, 4G would be perfect - I'm just not there yet. And if I'm going to have to settle for the current-gen 4G phones that are bulky and poor battery life, I'd rather either wait for a better 4G model to come out or stick with 3G."

Speed... if you don't subscribe to Netflix or stream content than I understand why you don't see a need for 4G. While I've been able to stream on my OG Droid just fine, let me just say that it could be enhanced by a faster signal. And it goes back to the point that if I'm paying the same price for data whether it's 3G or 4G, I'd want a better bang for my buck and would be nice to actually USE the speed.

Compared to the Galaxy S II maybe, but the Droid 3 is 3G and it has the same size & weight (actually a tad heavier and probably because of the slide-out keyboard) as the Droid Bionic.... I would hold judgement until Verizon's version of the Galaxy S II comes out, only then will we know if the 4G galaxy will fit in a smaller/lighter shell

^According to that link, if we see a 4G S II, it's only 1mm thicker and 12g heavier than the 3G counterpart.... that's nothing. (and it includes a 100mAh bump up in the battery and larger screen)

why do some apps show up in my market account as needing an update when i've supposedly uninstalled them?

specifically, i tried out GO Launcher EX and didn't really care for it, so i uninstalled...but the contacts gowidget and calendar gowidget show up as needing to be updated, but i specifically uninstalled them (nothing related to the GO launcher shows up in my apps or widgets list)

how do i get these to go away?

Did you uninstall them through the market or Settings-Manage Applications. If I just uninstall from the market, they usually stay there but doing the latter seems to get rid of them. You can also try clearing the market data and then opening it back up.

Bought a Renases ChinaTab a couple of weeks ago just to poke around on. Definitely totally understand why the iPad outsells android tablets like 10:1.

that said, for the money I spent, its an insanely capable piece of hardware. Google needs to get their shit together and stop letting all the Chinese manufacturers run amok fragmenting their platform.

You can easily take the word 'Chinese' out of your last statement and it wouldn't make it any less true.

^Very possibly, although from what I've seen of the big players (Samsung, Motorola, HTC, even Viewsonic), they custom Android installs are at least fully functional and use licensed applications.

This little tablet has definitely brought back my tinkerer habits and reminded me how much fucking time you can waste tweaking on computer stuff.

Can't wait to try out Honeycomb if/when it ever comes out

Honeycomb source may not be released until it reaches obsolescence for that very reason. They didn't want china putting it on pieces of shit that couldn't run it it to their satisfaction. Or put it on phones and shit.

Ice cream sandwich will run both platforms, and they've said they fully intend to release the source of that.

what are you talking about??? Honeycomb is out on like 8+ reliable tablets already.

Motorola Xoom
ASUS Eee Pad Transformer
Acer Iconia Tab A500
LG G-Slate
Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1
Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet & IdeaPad K1
Archos 80 G9 & 101 G9
Sony S1 & S2

Granted, the only one I'd buy would be the Samsung Galaxy Tab.... but they're out... and it's very apparant that Honeycomb was just a placeholder until Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) comes out, which has been mentioned.

Do not expect Honeycomb to do any more than it already has. And for goodness sakes, go demo the Galaxy Tab, it at least shows the potential. I can't believe you'd come in here and talk about Android from your experience with a Chinese POS

Yeah I was talking about it being available on my chinatab.

I think you've misunderstood me, Prospero.

I AM impressed with Android. I am also impressed with how much hardware they pack in these things. I have zero interest in a tier-1 tablet (xoom, Galaxy Tab, etc). If I'm paying 400+ dollars, I'll get an iPad or wait for Windows.

But the sub $150 I just paid for this sucker is definitely worth it, even on a slight cobbled together 2.2 install.

Cortex A9 dual core, 512mb ddr2 mem, 4gb NAND, WiFi, capacitive 7" multitouch display, accelerometer, camera, HDMI out, usb, 4gb MicroSD card, 3600mwh battery, and PowerVR 530 graphics.

I can only imagine how the bionic is going to be with dual core and 4g lte.

Yea, sorry bout that, I just had a sentence to go off of and it sounded like you were basing your buying decision on Honeycomb vs. iPad based on your ChinaTab.

I actually had a EKEN M001 7" Tablet
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Eken-Android-Google-Tablet-iPad,10274.html

It was shit. But then again it was early on with Android 1.6 and an 8-bit screen with a touchscreen only a stylus could manipulate

I got this N7A-II Renesas http://www.mcbub.com/item/----August-Special-Offer-----7--N7A-II-Renesas-Cortex-A9-Dual-core-Capacitive-Touch-Screen-Tablet-pc-1-0GHz-Android-2-2-512MB-4GB-Bluetooth-HDMI-MID-black-CN101769--136318/

It's a nice screen (840x480 surprisingly doesn't look bad at all on a 7"). Really good multitouch, decent accelerometer (though it's only a 270 deg range, not 360?).

http://www.bgr.com/2011/08/15/google-to-acquire-motorola-mobility-for-12-5-billion/
Quote :
"Google and Motorola Mobility have announced an agreement whereby Google will acquire Motorola for $12.5 billion. The acquisition price equates to $40 per share of Motorola stock, or a premium of 63% over Friday’s closing price. The move is considered in part to be an effort that will better-align Google to compete with Apple’s iPhone, which owned two-thirds of profits among the world’s top-8 smartphone vendors in the second quarter. A Google-owned hardware arm give the company complete control over device hardware, software and services, resulting in an end-to-end user experience that is completely under Google’s command. Perhaps just as important in this day and age, the deal will also give Google control of Motorola’s extensive patent portfolio. “Motorola Mobility’s total commitment to Android has created a natural fit for our two companies,” Google CEO Larry Page said in a statement. “Together, we will create amazing user experiences that supercharge the entire Android ecosystem for the benefit of consumers, partners and developers. I look forward to welcoming Motorolans to our family of Googlers.” It is unclear how this might affect Google’s relationship with other Android partners. The deal is subject to regulatory approval, of course, and it is expected to close in late 2011 or early 2012. The full press release follows below."

Motorola has the ability to make great handsets, they've been shitting the bed lately though. Hopefully that pentile shit stops.
