i would pick villa in the final. he is due to score now with his 43 goals in 64 games ratio (i think). 7/7/2010 4:38:54 PM |

I'll go with him
(I also have Kuyt and Sneijder, but Villa is much more of a sure thing) 7/7/2010 4:41:04 PM |

the 3rd-4th game is played during the same "week" as the final. and i would expect more goals out of that game than a final game featuring a spanish side. I have had villa as my captain every week, but i might switch it to forlan or klose. 7/7/2010 4:42:07 PM |
JTMONEYNCSU All American 24529 Posts user info edit post |
unless sneijder gets some more luck his way
though im sure you get points for shots, prob on goal though, but villa is gonna shoot more than sneijder will
^im not sure i see forlan doing well against germany this time around. hes had a great tourney but i can see him being shut down. klose might be a good pick.

No way, Germany played like shit and Spain played well. It was completely unexpected (no sarcasm there).
That doesn't mean I can't be upset that my team lost, though. 7/7/2010 7:57:47 PM |

Apparently I'm in second in the TWW bracket predictor contest.
Good picks:
1) Netherlands and Spain final. 2) Germany to reach the semis. 3) The Dutch offing Brazil.
Bad picks:
1) France and Italy to make it out of the group stage, much less win their groups. LOL. 2) Argentina to lose to Mexico. (Think pre-tournament Argentina) 3) England winning the group and making it to the semis. LOLOLOLOL.
Whoever D Man is, you edged me by one regardless of the final result since we both have Spain to win it.
Whoever K Ward is, you win if the Dutch wins the final. 7/7/2010 8:26:02 PM |

Just a look back at goals and ties in this tournament compared to others since it was a big topic of discussion, mainly among non-soccer fans I guess, at the beginning of this tournament (I just compiled these numbers quick myself today)
-At this point in the tournament, this year's world cup has averaged about 2.3 goals/game which is on par with 2006's 2.3 gpg average. -There were 13 ties in the group stage this year, more than the 10 in 2006, but fewer than the 14 in 2002, and 16 in 1998 -There have been 38 goals so far in this year's knockout round (averaging 2.7 gpg). Comparing previous tournaments at this exact same point: 2006 had 24 goals (1.7 gpg), 2002 had 24 goals (1.7 gpg), and 1998 had 39 goals (2.7 gpg)
So, as I said in the beginning, it would all even out in the end. People (not specifically here, mainly just in general) were complaining about the massive amount of ties this year as well as the low amount of scoring at the beginning when there weren't even enough games to get a good statistical average from. Then again, I guess the people who were complaining about this have probably moved on to something else to complain about 7/8/2010 10:21:23 AM |

^He should have done better than letting the gk freeze him and contain him until the defense caught up. Edson Buddle scored again the other night and Gomez was one of the top scorers in the Mexican league before the World Cup. Findley never should have seen the field at the World Cup. 7/9/2010 1:54:24 AM |

i was actually really happy with the officiating in the spain-germany game (and a few others where whistles were few and far between). i think i heard that the ref who is doing the final has been giving out an average of 6 cards a game, which is not the kind of ref you want when you have robben and possibly torres on the field.
i really, really, really hope that a bad decision is not the difference of this game. *fingers crossed* 7/9/2010 8:36:46 PM |
