They won't spin it and get out of it.
The NCAA doesn't give a fuck that the dude died. The SoS office will just change their focus to Blake now, since they can't hammer Wichard. No one is going to skate, no matter how much spin UNC puts on this. 3/11/2011 10:58:44 PM |

So Devon Ramsey's lawyer was on The Sports Experience this morning on 620, called in during the discussions on the shadiness that is college football these days, blaming the NCAA for everything. He says Ramsey was permanently banned for a 3 page paper turned in 2 years ago and it wasn't until he could get legal representation (and I'm curious as to whether or not he billed) they could force the NCAA to see there was no wrong doing.
I was under the impression that UNC was handling the academic prong from the get go--they sat the kids. 3/31/2011 10:05:54 AM |

the ncaa was (is?) letting unc handle the academics with kind of aloof oversight, meaning they reviewed the findings once unc decided on them. apparently they felt that devon's mom proof-reading his paper was really bad so they banned him, which obviously is whack no matter what school you pull for. 3/31/2011 10:10:31 AM |

But the school sat him, the school did research and turned it in, you just admitted that above. In this situation, they should be upset with UNC, not the NCAA. I find it very hard to believe they honestly banned a kid over one paper--UNC had to have turned in some pretty incriminating evidence.3/31/2011 10:27:06 AM |

yeah they sat him and did research and turned it in, which they felt would exonerate him, not lead to permanent ineligibility. baddour stated he felt it was extemely unfair which was why they appealed
i mean yall can believe what you want, but the ncaa rarely overturns anything, so obviously the evidence was pretty compelling.

I believe the lawyer. Lawyers always share the entirety of the facts, they never leave details out, regardless of how damaging it may be to their case. They never spin things, they never exaggerate, and they're always interested in only the truth. It's clear that the NCAA and the media have a bias against UNC and are enforcing tyrannical punishment on these innocent children who have been victimized by greedy agents and corrupt professors that are only concerned with excellent grade statistics. 3/31/2011 10:32:35 AM |

True, but they also don't just go around declaring folks permanently ineligible either, so I'm sure the first evidence they were presented with must also have been pretty compelling.3/31/2011 11:04:40 AM |

he was suspended just because his mom proofread a paper, really? that is (nearly) that stupidest thing I've read on TWW this week. holy shit, no semi-educated person could actually believe that's why he was suspended. no f'in way. i mean, these players have paid tutors to proofread papers, and that's absolutely legal and even encouraged - but if his mom takes a look, that's enough for the ncaa to suspend him?? get. the. fuck. out. of. here. with. that. shit. i'm dumbfounded that anyone would even attempt to argue that that is possibly the reason. my God.
i'm friends with dozens of unc alums (hell, i have 4 siblings/in-laws who graduated from carolina), and most of them at this point agree that BD most likely did some shady things, their football program embarrassed the school, and that the suspensions last season were justified. hard to believe that those sentiments aren't unanimous among their fan base at this point, but i guess there's always going to be those delusional fans that cannot fathom that their holier-than-thou tar heel program could do some underhanded, shady things. 3/31/2011 11:07:39 AM |

ok egg on my face, i was confusing two separate stories i think, so my bad. he had minor revisions made by the tutor and communicated through email which unc felt were fine at the time (2008, since changed). unc held him out while they figured everything out, submitted the findings, he was banned, unc appealed, and ramsay eventually won. 3/31/2011 12:16:18 PM |

Don't go to IC then. They think Deunta Williams was suspended for crashing on an ex players couch. They also think letting an ex-player/teammate put your hotel bill on their credit card while you "pay them back with cash" is a viable excuse. I cannot beleive the UNC fanbase doesn't come down on a player who received anything of benefit on someone elses' credit card. That is compliance 101. Burney also got a one game suspension for an ADMITTED honor court violation (other 6 were agent related). That gets you a minimum of a semester at any other school, and sometimes expulsion, especially given the intent, which was of course, completely intentional on Burney's part (you can get into citing and sources issues if you're not careful which can often lead to serious consequences even if they are unintentional).
Quote : | "he had minor revisions made by the tutor " |
Uh, he had a paper he submitted to a tutor who pretty much rewrote the paper. That's what the tutors have been doing and what's gotten them into the mess. Virtually every one of his points was re written, i.e. cheating. And the tutor putting over 2 grand on her credit card for benefits to the players probably didn't help either.
Houston and Brown will eventually serve between the two, a combined one game suspension. That's garbage as well. Each of these guys was knee deep in the tutor mess and Houston will serve no time, while Brown will serve a game for his agent stuff. I can't tell you how pathetic it is to use a red shirt to loophole these guys out of punishment. There's simply no way to defend this stance that Davis has taken. I'm assuming the NCAA has eyes and ears just like the rest of us and will keep that in mind for a future decision on UNC. And just so everyone knows, Baddour didn't turn in the tutor stuff. It came up when the players were being grilled about the agent stuff and some player spilled the beans. In no way, shape, or form did Dick Baddour drop a dime on his own program. You've seen how he's fought the tutor mess tooth and nail, there's absolutely no reason why he'd do this if he was the one blowing the whistle in the first place.
Let's also keep in mind UNC told the NCAA to not even bother investigating Austin past August, they'd just turn him loose on the spot after Quinn and Little were humiliated. When your university isn't even interested in presenting your case, it's pretty bad, a lot more than 13 grand bad. They also had Reddick throwing a punch on TV with no recourse.
