so making the same complaint that people always make every time apple does these things helps or changes things how...? get used to it. that's how apple rolls.

Considering the first version of the phone didn't even have the concept of apps, and the first iteration that did only let you have something like 5 pages of apps, I don't think folders was a big concern at the time. Now when they're talking about maxing out at a couple thousand apps, it becomes more important.

While it's annoying to wait so long for features that could be considered "basic", I think Apple is going about this right way. It's not just about implementing as many features as possible, it's about designing a touch based user experience that will eventually eliminate the need for traditional input devices. If you think about it from that perspective, the implementation is just as important as the feature itself, and it's absolutely necessary that wait until they get it just right before releasing it.

So you're saying that it took them 3 and a half years to master the concept and implementation of folders on a touch interface?

The ol' Apple BrainTrust must've been working overtime.

stein just quit whining. it's hurting my ears. if you don't like it, get out. the iphone is the best selling smartphone, and it has everything to do with good, quality design.

How much R&D do you think it cost them to let you put a background image behind your apps?

^^I would be too if I knew my money was going towards well developed products with an unmatched user experience that I still wasn't happy with.

Also, iPhone was 3rd best selling Smartphone in 2009 behind RIM and Nokia (1st) but its growth dwarfs everyone else (81% growth)

My checklist of daily activities is:

1) Eat breakfast
2) Be embarassed by my iPhone
3) Go to work

It's a full day of activities, folks

wow, so there's a few frameworks that have popped up that allow you to develop iphone apps without using xcode/objective-c, and the new dev agreement now prohibits them

http://daringfireball.net/2010/04/iphone_agreement_bans_flash_compiler

pretty bitch move imo

This is probably targeting stuff like this
http://www.knowyourcell.com/news/458104/reminder_adobe_brings_iphone_app_development_to_windows_next_week.html

I think its mainly to prevent it from occurring on non OSX machines

"3.3.1 — Applications may only use Documented APIs in the manner prescribed by Apple and must not use or call any private APIs. Applications must be originally written in Objective-C, C, C++, or JavaScript as executed by the iPhone OS WebKit engine, and only code written in C, C++, and Objective-C may compile and directly link against the Documented APIs (e.g., Applications that link to Documented APIs through an intermediary translation or compatibility layer or tool are prohibited).

My reading of this new language is that cross-compilers, such as the Flash-to-iPhone compiler in Adobe’s upcoming Flash Professional CS5 release, are prohibited. This also bans apps compiled using MonoTouch and Unity3D — tools that compiles C# and .NET apps to the iPhone. It’s unclear what this means for tools like Titanium and PhoneGap, but it sounds to me like they’re on the wrong side of this new rule, and the folks behind Appcelerator already realize they might be out of bounds."

I think Steve Jobs hates Adobe as much as I hate Apple.

Which is odd, because for the longest time Adobe's software was the only real reason to own a Mac.

I'm confused. I thought this was official from both parties?

I hate flash more than Steve Jobs hates Adobe and Stein hates Apple combined!

Ok even if these companies find ways to not be detected, wont they still be restricted in selling their solutions?

i do like the multiple exchange support (though i thought that was a limitation of the activesync framework or whatever)

between my gmail and my work email, i choose my gmail for push

first thoughts:

holy shit, be prepared for it to take ages to sync all of your initial exchange push data
it's slowly but surely coming down, though

and i'm hearing a lot of weird popping noises coming from the speaker at strange times... it seems like it happens whenever it initializes the audio framework.

Mines updating now...just started.

So since this won't be available to the public on iPad until the Fall was there any mention to when developers would get it for iPad?

Mine loaded really fast and exchange was up and running with no issues pretty much as soon as the phone restarted.

I am not seeing where to change wallpapers for non-lock screen though or where the water drops wall paper is...its on by default but i don't see a way to reselect it.

There is a 'organize by thread' option which I'm guessing is the same concept as gmail organizing replies. Yup, it is! Sweet.

so i just downloaded the justin.tv app a few days ago -- couldn't get any decent streams, and when i finally found something, it would crash every time

i just downloaded the update, and i've been streaming the Braves/Cubs game for 15 minutes in pretty solid quality completely uninterrupted

hope this keeps up
