lol. It's always been like that. Even on stock. If you're connected to a wifi network, the 3G/4G connection is gone. Well unless you're sending an MMS and then you'll see the Verizon connection pop up briefly] 8/26/2011 11:31:06 AM |

note to all: don't change the font on BAMF

anyone have a favorite standalone remote control app? looking for something that uses bluetooth (since my mouse and keyboard already do) to control basic media players (vlc and winamp specifically)...unified looks okay, but you have to install software on the computer, too
it may be that the nature of such things requires installation on all computers...but i thought i'd check here, first
if so, gmote and unified seem to be the top contenders (though i think gmote uses wifi and not bluetooth)

Great remote app if you have DirecTV. I've been using it more than my actual DirecTV remote since I got it. I'm using a Xoom so YMMV. 8/27/2011 8:49:07 PM |

Well, finally got a smart phone yesterday. X2. Never used anything but old school flip-phone until now.
Pretty nifty tricks it can do. Favorite feature by far is the built in FM tuner.
Also I like you load mp3s through plain windows explorer, unlike the iPod touch I used to use.
I did chuckle after setting up eight billion different accounts and services because whenever ANYONE sends me ANYTHING, I get notified of it about six different ways - it reminded of Ryan (from the Office) inventing that all-encompassing social media handler. 9/2/2011 10:23:16 PM |

yep that's what i'm waiting for...the evo 3d wasn't worth it. the sgs2 epic touch 4g is still SAMSUNG and i swore i would never buy anything they have to update themselves after seeing what the epic users had to go through, so that's out. HTC unlocking bootloaders is a big plus for them and i would gladly buy any HTC phone now but with ICS at thanksgiving, I don't think it's worth it right now. 9/7/2011 6:08:57 PM |

I've got an upgrade that's just burning a hole in my pocket. I won't make it out that far, but I think I can make it until December.
Although, I could read the section on my creditcard agreement, I think my amex allows me a 90 day return window, even if the return window is closed by the original vendor.not applicable to cell phones, and would burn up my upgrade subsidy

It's the $300 price that really turns me off from a Bionic. The Photon is basically the same phone with no LTE and costs $100 now, and the Galaxy S 2 is by most accounts superior and is $200.
And since I'm not currently on Verizon, LTE doesn't really interest me. Oh 14mb/s download? You mean I can burn through my entire monthly allowance in about 3 minutes!? Sign me up! 9/8/2011 1:12:28 PM |

haha, I love how they try to make netflix and other bandwidth hungry apps a major selling point. If you're not on an existing unlimited plan, you're pretty much screwed and going to pay out your ass.9/8/2011 1:16:59 PM |

dumb question from an (obvious) android/phone noob: is it realistic to hope for an ICS rom for the thunderbolt? android releases are so frequent (compared to computer OSes) that i'm not sure if each new version is very backwards compatible or if phones are designed to run only one (maybe two) different versions of android (and vice versa, that each version of android is geared toward a specific hardware configuration)

I was planning to get a Droid Bionic today, but I was told you can't tether with the $30 plan and that I have to pay $50 for the data plan that includes "Mobile Hotspot". That sounds lame as shit to me. If I pay for the 2GB of data why do they care how I use it?

you're "supposed" to pay for tethering on all of the carriers. You could root and use wireless tether but then you'd have to be careful and not go over whatever your data plan is.9/8/2011 1:57:13 PM |

Quote : | "Verizon has begun blocking customers who use workarounds to tether their mobile devices without a Verizon-approved tethering plan, Boy Genius Report reported Monday. The move comes days after AT&T announced it will start forcing tetherers onto approved tethering plans, and just as the debate ramps up on whether curtailing tethering apps violates certain rules Verizon agreed to when it licensed a chunk of 700MHz spectrum for 4G use.
BGR noted that one of its writers, who uses a rooted Motorola Droid X and an unauthorized app to tether other devices, recently found that trying to navigate the Web on tethered devices redirected her to a Verizon Wireless page detailing rates for the company's authorized hotspot plans." |

I went and played with a bionic. Nice form factor, it's slick.. I like quite a bit about it. I could even get over blur.
But the screen was distracting. Side by side, I would have bought a thunderbolt over a bionic. Motorola ruined what could have been a great product. 9/8/2011 2:14:42 PM |
