yesterday did the first half of practice hard the second half easy (meet on weekend)
usual warm up 200 free moderate, 50 kick, 100IM, 50 free easy

8X100 odds Free moderate, evens Backstroke we picked 1:45 for overall pace (moderate quick for back and very easy for free)

broken 500 by 100's :10 rest between 100's(we settled on 1:25 as our swim pace +10 seconds, but it was really too slow, 1:20 would have been moderate +10 seconds rest easily)

300 free/back/free by 100, 50 drill 50 swim split each 100.

starts and turns.

overall not very much yardage, friday will be lighter still <1000 yards with start's and turns again. then meet starting at 12:30pm for my first events (sat in charlotte, hopefully the weather will cooperate with the meet and practice on friday)

leg work out (but alas, no squats) at the gym yesterday, followed by a 45 min 11 mile "ride" on a stationary bike.

No gym today, preparation for ski trip instead

its a good exercise but i dont typically incorporate them into my workouts. form is crazy important on that exercise.

personally i like to do lots of deadlifts on back day and then do lots of standing military presses on shoulder day. easier to focus on form with those two.

clean and presses..... find a good USA Weightlifting coach to coach your form. Great lift. But, to really push your lbs, you need bumpers.

All this talk of an eating contest has me hungry, and I just had wings, a thick ribeye, potatoe, and veggies for dinner an hour and a half ago

4 miles? Your mileage is increasing pretty quickly.

Can't decide what I'm going to do tonight, if anything with the weather being supposedly nasty.

Also, I have 923.77 miles left to run this year.

well I guess I should say I'm going to attempt to run 4 miles, non-stop... I can run 3 non-stop without a doubt so I think I can push myself a little harder to make it the whole 4

Are you timing yourself or just going for distance?

Umm... I guess a little of both. I want to finish in 40 minutes and average with a 10 min mile but if I don't do that, I'm just going to keep running til I finish. I have been timing myself a lot more recently.

Nice - just take it in stride. When I started out running my first 5k was around 28 minutes, about 9 minutes a mile. After training for a while I've gotten it down to a 21 and change 5k and have done a few half marathons and triathlons.

Ran a rough, 6-mile trail in 50 minutes.

I never run w/a watch, but the boy toy gave me a Nike wristwatch last night. Dangerous. I'm about to start getting neurotic about running times again.

Timing yourself is the best way to get faster. It's kind of like weighing in on a scale. It's hard to slack off when you're holding yourself accountable.

Also, if you're trying to get faster, definitely run with faster people every so often. It will keep you on your toes.

Nothing yesterday and it snowed last night. If I get to my place I can get my spike things that let me run in the snow without slipping and dieing.

Otherwise, there's a Y within walking distance but I don't think they're open on the weekend. We'll see.

i'm thinking of going spaghetti

1lb spicy italian sausage

2 20oz jars of pasta sauce
1 box whole wheat pasta
some fine herbs

The only way to get bigger and stronger is to lift heavy and eat massive amounts of food.

Although there has been little research done, over-feeding while on a serious strength training program has been found to result in more lean body mass gain than adipose mass. However, fat mass is inevitable with a calorie surplus.

Muscle is a lot harder to build than it is to lose fat. Fat gain is a necessary evil if you want to get big and strong quickly.

BTW for those who wanna step up for an eating contest. I've done some hot wing challenges, and an all you can eat baby back ribs contest.

There's also the doughman triathlon in Durham.
