wolfpack hoops fail

who the fuck gave those guys credentials and allowed them to talk to recruits anyway at these events?

evidently any slapdick can make a blog and play 1 on 1 v Will Barton.

lol "superfans"

It was dumb, but Barton challenged those guys. Not vice versa. And I think everyone involved knew he was just kidding.

How can a bunch of guys who obviously want to get in to the recruiting scene NOT know that? Jesus... Even I know that you can't do shit like that.

It's not a huge deal, but it isn't exactly a way to keep getting these tournaments and events to keep giving you credentials...

what a crock... Wolfpackhoops is being oppressed!

I like James Henderson and all the guys at both rivals and scout, but when James Henderson of "PackPride.com" calls up recruit x, what makes that any different than when wolfpackhoops interviews a kid? Nothing. And don't give me "they played bball with a recruit." They raised money to fly out to California to cover the event, on their own time, and don't charge $100/year to read about it.

The NCAA is really the one at fault because they try and limit access to these recruits so stringently that they've basically got either self-policing policies in place (which only but about 1% are going to follow) or policies that are unenforceable. How many people did John Wall see everyday in High School telling him to go to State or Carolina or Duke... and all of those are technically recruiting violations. Why don't those idiots figure how to nail Calipari to the wall for once.

Wolfpackhoops FTW.

any publicity is good publicity.

I don't think you know the rules really. A kid in high school can say whatever he wants.

Anyone, however, who has at one time attended said University who mentions anything about said University is a considered a booster. Did anyone on the Wolfpack Hoops site go to NC State at any point? Do they know the ins and outs of the rules about boosters, if they did go to NC State at any point?

I imagine James Henderson, being the editor of a well respected and (I believe) University sponsored magazine probably knows the rules of how to deal with recruits far better than you or I who start our own blog...

^ true and thanks.

I was just going by what the Ohio State Compliance dude said, which led me to believe that anyone who encouraged a recruit to go to a school was in violation.

If its just an alum then that makes a little more sense, but, its still entirely unenforceable at a large public institution

Washington Post picking out improprieties in recruiting regarding anyone connected to NC State...that's good for you?

That shit only works for Jerry Jones.

^^^ I said it partly tongue-in-cheek but honestly, there were no violations, there weren't even any improprieties. The story was about how the line is blurring between what is legitimate contact with recruits.

WPH never solicited a commitment from Barton, nor any other recruits and they don't actively recruit and as they mentioned, they have clearance from NCState to go out and do their thing. I know that probably upsets various pay sites but i don't give a shit.

As for any publicity is still good publcity: yes, its true. It puts NCSU's name out there as a school with dedicated fans because the article clearly wasn't talking about anything done wrong by the coaching staff. And remember, as everyone likes to point out, recruits now don't know anything about 1983 or JimmyV or Norm Sloan or David Thompson.

no the bball prepschool guys don't enroll in the spring because they are required to play out the whole season

the reason you see prep football players is because their season is over after fall semester

Harrow is now #25 overall and a 5 * on the newest 2010 Scout rankings...

** Also, I know Tobias Harris is almost definitely not coming here, but he is now in the Top 10.

not so fast

his brother-n-law accepted the head coaching job at WOG and Ryan will be up at State every time he comes to visit his family

he was up here this past week visiting and he and CJ Leslie had a chance to play some pick up basketball together and heard it went really well.

also, something that came out end of august that i read on the duke chronicle about CJL being back to a State lean. This was before his in home visit list came out of KentYucky, OR, UNC, Maryland, Connecticut, and probably Florida .... so major players will be coming to the triangle over the next several months

CJL is a different type of dude though and there is no telling what he thinking from one minute to the next.

Cothron is back and wound up not transferring so thats good for us too

"In an early morning development, 2010 recruit Luke Cothron, has named NC State as his leader. After a great visit to campus on Saturday in which Luke got to see the Pack football team in action and talk with Coach Lowe, he decided that NC State was the frontrunner in his recruitment. Luke, who was almost all ready to pack up and head to Connecticut his Senior season, had a change of heart and decided to stay in North Carolina to finish off his high school career.

Although not a commitment, the fact that he has named NC State as his leader is surely significant. The five star big man is a prized recruit who is being courted heavily by some major programs including Connecticut, Florida, Kansas, Tennessee and many more. We'll have more on this situation as it develops."

Is there a legitimate source reporting this other than a notorious homer blog? Just curious... A link would be nice as it would be good news if true at the very least...

** Is Zo Brown just reclassified? I was under the impression that they don't include those who didn't qualify in the rankings for the next years class. For instance, UConn has Ater Majok who was ruled to not qualify last year but did for this year, but he isn't included on the list (he was the #12 overall on Rivals last year)...

I'm not anti-WPH in general... I love reading updates from past players and prospect interviews and whatnot.

I just don't take them seriously as a legitimate recruiting source. I mean, for fuck's sake, they don't even know booster rules. I know booster rules, even... They ask targeted questions and then run with innocuous quotes as if the guy signed a LOI in front of them. It is irresponsible.

Above all else, I wish people would stop posting things on TWW about "great news" from there unless they say beforehand that it is from WPH so I know not to get excited...
