Few shot from the Javelin/Lonnie Walker/Future Islands show last week. I wish I would have brought my flash. It was soooo dark.

Future Islands.

Lonnie Walker.

Here are some pics from the G10. All of them shot handheld except for the night one, which was taken leaning the camera on a handrail. Most of them unedited other than cropping. Came out fairly clear and accurate, if a lot less saturated than the ones out of my old P&S Lumix and Fuji.

[Apologize for the epic pic bombing, but these should load very fast]

here are couple with quick and dirty picasa edit

So how do you guys post/host your creative photos? Obviously mine are currently linked straight out the Facebook album, i know at minimum Facebook strips EXIF data, are there other major deficiencies? Is the scaling/compression tool on Flickr a lot better than one on the facebook (there seem to be a quite a bit of aliasing and some compression artifacts on FB uploads)? Or do you scale it withing your image editing program first and then proceed to upload flicker-friendly size pics? Finally, who is using what for your image touchup/editing (Picasa/GIMP/photoshop come to mind, any of that free stuff that came with the Canon worth even installing??)

Ronnie, are the twilight/night pics from your last post HDR pics or not?

Also, does anyone use any sort of reference point when doing color correction/brightness/contrast adjusting? when viewing on my glossy 22'' HP at home, these look a shit ton more colorful and sharper than when checking them out on my work laptop.. I know color calibration of the monitor has been discussed earlier in the thread, but it there a way to have a visual color true color reference open on the monitor at the time of the edit, like those gray and color scales they use in camera reviews?

[Edited on August 25, 2009 at 5:11 PM. Reason : pics in the post above are noticeably more colorful]

I cannot even begin to tell you all how much it weighs on me that I don't take my camera out much any more, and that I have such a horrific backlog of pictures to deal with. We're talking last year's road trip, the holidays, a wedding, and now my honeymoon.

I'm beginning to feel like I don't even deserve my camera anymore.

very nice set Igor! Love the KTM, even though it's a cheesy monocolor.

Facebook does a bad job at downsizing and doesn't save the pics in high enough jpeg quality so you will see some compression artifacts and aliasing from the poor interpolation software. It's best to resize it yourself then upload of web applications, but most big name photo storage websites usually have a pretty decent photo resizer straight on the site.

It's also a good practice to just reduce your upload time when sizing for web (like 800x600). Flicker should have a pretty decent tools, as does picasa for being free. GIMP as well. Not sure if you can do image or batch processing with GIMP, but it's really easy with photoshop to resize a whole set.

I only use Photoshop to do all of my edits in it, but you can use Lightroom 2 or Aperture to do simple edits. Although, I've never really caught on LR2 or Aperture because it doesn't jive with my workflow.

One of the conductors (below) is working on a book about railroading and wants to illustrate it with my stuff from around the engine yard. He doubles as brakeman so he takes me pretty much everywhere I need to be to shoot from the inside. The top pic is another conductor on his last day and shift, totally spent from a busy season. I tweaked the photo only so far as to get him to switch hands.

I've noticed a lot of talented photographers in this thread, many that know what they're talking about. So I would be really interested to hear feedback/criticism on my photos. Right now I'm thinking I want to become more serious about photography so be honest.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/schmitter5/

to see what the 'popular-interesting' photos are at least according to flickr use the flickriver link.

^^^Try correcting the exposure/color/contrast/saturation in the first one a bit. It just looks bland and washed out.

And the second photo is backfocused pretty bad.

I'm heading to the Panthers game tonight and was thinking about taking some pics. What settings would you guys recommend for a night game under the lights? Using a D40 w/ 55-200 VR lens.

woah... an actually portfolio quality shot by kiwi... I thought I'd never see the day. nice!

Oh, if you guys haven't heard, Canon just released info on a new body, the 7D. it's basically a 1D, 5D mkII, and a 50D combined for 1699. I'm sadden with all of the nice features it has that should have been on the 5DmkII. But one down side is that it's still on a 1.6x crop sensor so the 5D beats it at least in image quality... in theory.

8fps, full video controls, 1080p, 720p, SD at 24p, 25p or 30p. 18MP, new 19pt AF system, dual processors, ISO 12,800, etc...

I want.

It mostly depends upon if you own Nikon or Canon glass. But the 7D appears to shoot greater fps, better video, higher resolution than the d300s.
