we've got 2 freshman linebackers coming in this year (and a juco junior) and we had 3 coming in next year before his decommitment, so this isn't a huge loss. Hopefully we can replace him with a more highly rated player

I think we just got a pretty decent o-line recruit. Had offers from Tennessee and Arkansas. Fuck you Jaybee.

Nice. 6'5" 279 OG Tylar Reagan. I think I saw that his final two were us and UCF. Lots of interest and offers.

Really nice pickup at a position of need, Rivals has him as the #24 OG in the country.

He can play immediately per the ruling on Penn St. Redshirted last year at PSU so he has 4 years of eligibility.

Also it was mentioned that universities that took on Penn State players might be able to get a 1 year scholarship exception. We would have to be back down to 85 next year even if he was still around.

He was on the 2-deep at Penn State....which means he would probably be on our 2-deep. We are pretty stacked at secondary, but we'll have plenty leave after next year and depth can only help.

So he's going to be listed as a rs freshman with 4 years to play.
Does that mean he was a true freshman walk-on on PSU's 2-deep last year?

No. He was listed as back up after spring practice.

ok, that makes more sense.
still, it's hard to believe that a walk-on rs freshman would be on their 2-deep.

He was a preferred walk-on that redshirted last season and earned a schollie. Coming out of their spring camp, he was listed on the 2 deep, as the #2.

Because they are allowing all PSU players to transfer right now and be immediately eligible, he still has 4 yeas of eligibility.

As for schollies, I'm assuming we are over the limit this year. Next year we will have to have 84.

Quote :
"Financial Aid limitations
If a student-athlete transfers for the fall of 2012 to a school that has reached its scholarship limits, the school may exceed these numbers for the 2012-13 academic year, provided it reduces such limits proportionately in the 2013-14 academic year. For example, if one student-athlete transfers to a Division I school already at the legislated limits of 25 initial counters and 85 overall counters for 2012-13, the school will be limited to 24 initial counters and 84 overall counters in 2013-14."

Dawka Nichols had 182 yards and 3 TDs on 9 carries last night. Bra'lon Cherry, Pharoah Mckever and Jalen McDaniel also scored TDs in their games last night.

"10. North Carolina State Wolfpack
Commits: 16 | ESPN 150: 0 | ESPN 300: 0 | Class ranking: NR
Who they have: NC State appears to be strongest at wide receiver in this class with three-star prospects Jalen McDaniel (Fayetteville, N.C./Jack Britt), Chris Holmes (Fredricksburg, Va./Chancellor) and Bra'lon Cherry (New Bern, N.C./New Bern).

The most intriguing prospect in the class could be 6-6, 210-pound athlete Pharoah McKever (Tabor City, N.C./South Columbus). McKever plays quarterback at South Columbus but could move to wide receiver, tight end or defensive line. It's likely he'll stay on offense and develop into a major target in the passing game.

Who they want: The Wolfpack are looking for another running back to go along with three-star commit Matt Dayes (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) and are looking good for Lexington (N.C.) running back Marquez Grayson, a 6-foot, 200-pound power back. If Grayson doesn't end up in the class, NC State make look at Harold Atkinson (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Carolina Forest), who could come in as a running back or a fullback.

Linebacker Devaris Brunson (Lake City, S.C./Lake City) has been an East Carolina verbal commit for a couple of months, but the 6-1, 202-pound linebacker says he is still open and recently took an unofficial visit to NC State."

Yea its fine for now, but Im worried as hell about 2013 and 2014. We may win 6 games combined those years. The recruiting has gone from mediocre to bad

You'd think with our success vs unc and a decent couple of years that he'd be able to capitalize

I actually quite like the 2013 class we have assembled so far, but if you want to be a negative nancy about it because there isn't enough star power that's your own business. TOB has made a number of staff changes over the past couple of years and there has been a marked attempt at hiring younger coaches which I think will pay dividends on the recruiting trail. It's also important to note that having a lot of commitments this early allows the staff to focus more on the 2014 class, which could be very beneficial.
