Honestly, I hope he doesn't fuck around at all and brings the A squad as often as possible. I know he has to balance things with clubs/rest/etc. but I can't stomach another WCQ miss after watching our B/C squad win the gold cup.

As for which elements of this gold cup team could play roles on the A team, I'd like to see Robinson, Zimmerman, Sands, Moore, Acosta, Vines and Hoppe get some burn. Honestly, I thought our defensive squad here at the Gold Cup were alot more solid and reliable, with the exception of Brooks of course.

We have got to have a holding midfielder know that Dest and Yedlin are shit at defending and when the team you are playings best player is deployed to that side maybe give them some help. Also Brooks needs to stop ball watching he didn't even make an attempt on that ball once it got passed him.

Berhalter also needed to make changes earlier. It was clear even before the first goal was scored that the team was lacking energy. After Canada leveled they kept the pressure on, and he waits until their are 10 minutes left? That sort of man mangement has cost many a manager there job.

I think you play sands/vines in the dest spot. Both of them defended solidly throughout the summer and you aren't gaining enough offense to justify Dest IMO.

Dest loses the ball too much. Yedlin doesn't have the speed he used to.

That Gregg couldn't see that we needed some offensive energy before the 81st minute when even the announcers are begging for it was a serious misstep.

My thoughts

Paramount+ was awful, the fact that the commentators were watching on a laptop in New York probably didn't help. The sound from field kept going up and down and sometimes the horns drowned out the commentators. Maurice Edu is not a bad analyst, but the commentator was a poor mans Gus Johnson, still better than whoever the fuck they had providing commentary on Panama-Mexico (he sounded like some Mexican Soccer Fan they found at a sports bar)

On to the game
First half was terrible. Outside of like 2 or 3 counters Honduras bossed the first half. John Brooks performance the last 2 games should lead to him not getting called up in October. He was awful, pulled out of a challenge that lead to the goal that had him out of position. His lack of defending also lead to Canada's equalizer

Second Half formation change and 3 subs made an immediate impact. Pulisic getting injured actually opened up the offense more. That could be concerning as if he is fit he will start but they may be too reliant on him to set the offensive tone. Pepi was very good all night. Glad we got the right result. Positions 2-4 all on 5 pts and +3 on GD and Mexico at 7 pts

I listened to Gregg's post game and even then I couldn't understand wtf we were doing with the first half formation. Playing 4 CBs doesn't spell good things offensively.

^Agreed on Brooks. The last two games have been disappointing and given our depth at CB, he should be given a short leash going forward. Sergeant is another one that should be better than he has been. I don't know how he gets PT over Aronson, Pepi or even Hoppe (who should get called up in his place next window). I'd love to see a front line of Pulisic (provided he heals up), Pepi and Gio in the next window.

I love that the subs worked out in the second half, but I can't help but wonder why the fuck they weren't out there in the first place? Bello?

eh, I think it was a bit more hopeful last night than "thankful we got the right result". I know Jamaica stinks, but our midfield controlled the ball as well as we have in a while. Dest looked great. Pepi I think secured the 9 spot with his last two performances. Musah had some moments and Weah looked like he could be a game changer going forward if he stays healthy

Id love to see a top line of Hoppe, Weah and Pepi at least once during this window.

Tomorrow night is the last WCQ against Mexico on US soil for at least 8 years.

It's a mystery to me why he Gregg leaves off Brooks from the roster for poor form and yet brings in Lleget and Roldan who absolutely shit the bed their last outing with the US (they were ok during the summer tournaments).

Paul nipples is worse than at least 2-3 healthy wingers we could have brought but didn't. I don't know why Hoppe can't get any PT while Gio and Pulisic have been out.

I would still take Dest over Yedlin unless we are setting up to be defensive. And honestly if your squad is 100% fit who are you dropping to start Pulisic and Reyna?

Game against Jamaica will be interesting Robinson (RC) and McKennie (YC Accumulation) are both suspended. I would assume that means Nipples or Acosta will start in place of McKennie and McKenzie for Robinson

Ooh.. forgot about Dest. He definitely starts over Yedlin. The good thing about Reyna is he is pretty versatile. I think he could play one of the midfield spots for Musah (although his form has been great) or he could play winger for Weah or Aaronson. I don't know that we have ever had the kind of depth we have right now on the offensive end.

For Jamaica, I'd like to see Busio in for Mckennie and Richards in for Robinson. They brought in Sands as well.

Maybe give Nipples and Acosta some run in clean up time. I'd be ok if Llegiet and Roldan don't see another WCQ game until we have secured a spot.

btw, how tf does Honduras blow that 2-0 lead to Panama? I didn't watch the game, but seeing the 3-2 win by Panama blew my mind at the end. It would have been nice to have some more distance in the points there.

Thoughts on game

I still fucking hate vuvuzelas and wish FIFA would start banning them from games.

McKennie's absence was huge as Busio and Acosta can't do the things he can do. Busio wasn't awful by any stretch but he isn't anywhere close to McKennie's level. And Acosta is only really good as a holding mid.

After the Antonio golazo we were a completely different team and basically just held on to the point albeit barely

Pulisic was pretty anonymous for the 25 minutes he was on the pitch. Don't know if he was being timid because of field condiitions or the fact that Jamaica was flying into challenges.

CONCACAF refs continue to be shitty but that is nothing new.

A draw isn't terrible especially with Mexico losing but Panama won again so the pressure is on.

Non US note. I fully expect Tata Martinez to be fired (possibly today) by the Mexican Soccer Federation.
