How much better than the first two? Was it on level with the original trilogy? 5/14/2005 5:28:53 PM |
dinah All American 2293 Posts user info edit post |
it's not on the level with the original trilogy for many hackneyed reasons, e.g. overusage of/reliance on special effects, lack of character development, the fact that George Lucas is proposed to be "aligning with the times," etc. But it's definitely the best one. How could it not be? It's what we all wanted to see in the first place. At least us older nerds...
**small spoiler**
for those of you who would take great pleasure in watching Jar Jar Binks die by the sword in this movie, you're gonna be disappointed. There is a "skit" at best which alludes to his death. Disappointing, but somewhat alleviating nonetheless... :-\ 5/14/2005 7:05:53 PM |

Doesn't look like there should be a problem getting tickets. We've got two prints, so we can techincally seat about 700. And with State being out of session, we really haven't sold too many tickets. 5/15/2005 10:18:43 PM |

jesus, NYT review said the new movie had horrible acting and writing yet said it was the best star wars movie ever. does not compute.
I mean, I'm fairly certain I could have ascribed personality types to the original star wars characters. R2D2 has more personality than anyone in the new fucking movies.

I'd love to hear Maddox's view on Star Wars, I think I'd agree.
You people realize Star Wars is nothing more than an overhyped action film with lots of character interaction and development w/ weird space characters and an off-the-wall setting/plot? It's really not the best thing since sliced bread. It's just a movie. I'll go it when it comes out on DVD, or if I get a free ticket somehow, but I mean c'mon, the real reason Star Wars is so big is because it's the best marketed motion picture of all time. 5/16/2005 9:01:11 AM |
ShinAntonio Zinc Saucier 18947 Posts user info edit post |
Overhyped? I wasn't alive in 1977 (most of us weren't), but my understanding from numerous sources is that movie flew pretty low under the radar and steadily built the infamous "word of mouth" buzz. 5/16/2005 9:11:20 AM |

seriously, the first trilogy could be boiled into one epic movie, like 3 hours long and the second trilogy could probably be erased from our collective consciousness, Men in Black style 5/16/2005 9:13:34 AM |

I still say that Empire Strikes Back holds its own against any action film made today. I watched it for the first time in like 3 years a few months ago and was surprised at how much I was laughing and enjoying it.
The original Star Wars is slow-paced by today's standards and RotJ has those damn Ewoks, but they're still fun films as far as I'm concerned. 5/16/2005 9:19:20 AM |

^ Yes. It's a great movie. But it's not worth incorporating it into your LIFESTYLE and dressing up like a fictional character to campout for days and days waiting to see what'll be in cinemas for months. 5/16/2005 9:25:08 AM |

Quote : | "Lucas: "There Are Two Kinds of 'Star Wars' Fans"
Legendary director George Lucas hit out at critics of his first two Star Wars prequels yesterday - just hours before third prequel Revenge Of The Sith premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. The legendary filmmaker insisted there are plenty of fans who like the first two prequels, The Phantom Menace and Attack Of The Clones, but that most of them are under the age of 25. He added that most people who dislike the two films tend to be fanatics of the original trilogy, released between 1977 and 1983. Speaking at a press conference at the French event, Lucas said, "The older ones (fans) are loyal to the first three films I made, and they are the ones in control of the media. The films that these people don't like - which are the first two prequels - are fanatically adored by the under 25s. They are always at each others throats about it." " |
