Arsenal suck. Not sure if they'll make the UEFA Cup.

as much as i dislike the gunners, I have to admit that it would be boring if bolton made the champions league instead. Arsenal are really exciting in Europe especially and their team of youngsters will definately step it up next season......shades of utd 2 seasons ago maybe?

if Bolton made the Champion's League, they'd be severely outmatched, much like Everton was a few years ago

and...?

When you have teams like Liverpool and Arsenal that have been out of the title race since October it seems and yet are almost guaranteed being in the CL, is there anything more boring than being a fan of one of those two teams? Arsenal (4th place on 56) are closer to Aston Villa (14th on 39) in points than they are to Chelsea (2nd on 75). Thank God for the FA Cup and CL I guess. Teams like Bolton, Everton, and Tottenham need to step up just to make the CL fight interesting. If they're severely outmatched come next year, so be it, it's Arsenal's job to take 4th, not their birthright. And it would be good for one of the big teams if they missed the CL. Maybe next year they'll actually try instead of mailing it in way back at Christmas.

you act like liverpool and arsenal finishing 3 and 4 is a bad season. in the past 5 years arsenal has arguably been the best english club...1st london club to get to the CL final (probably should have won)...an UNDEFEATED season including an insane unbeaten streak...won the league in 03-04...they did finish 4th last year as well, heaven forbid they have a "down" year

Uh, in a 4-team league, yes. Arsenal and Liverpool championing their finishing 3rd or 4th sounds like an Old Firm team championing their finishing 2nd in Scotland. And Liverpool has done that for who knows how long.

As for the rest of your post, I'm only talking about the league. All that other stuff is irrelevant to the league. It's easier to show up for a Champions League match as Liverpool does every year it seems when they're comfortably in the Top 4 and yet not even within shouting distance of the title. I can't come up with any other reason why Liverpool can do so awesome in Europe and yet only can be the best of the also-rans in England every year.

well, someone has to finish 4th, and finishing behind those 3 isn't an insult...arsenal has finished 1st, 2nd, 1st, 2nd, and 4th the last 5 years...you absolutely cannot question what they have done domestically...yes they are in a logjam with about 4 teams right now but you know they will compete next year

oh, I'm not saying I wouldn't be happy to see another team in the CL besides the big 4, but in this particular instance, Bolton would be severely outclassed. I was pulling hard for Spurs to make it last year, and on evidence of their run in the UEFA cup this year, I think they'd have done very well in the CL.

^^ Finishing out the CL is completely unacceptable for Arsenal. Period. Finishing fourth is bad enough as it is.

HAHAHA, wow I love how some of you jumped onto my post bout the gunners like i was accusing them of blasphemy or something!!

bloody hell, in my opinion, arsenal struggling to finish 4th, so far behind utd and chelsea is a bad season. Yeah they have been the best english team in europe and also done brilliantly in the league for the last 5 years, thats precisely why finishing so far behind 1st and 2nd is a bad season!!!

and as for flyingryan, i know its not their bloody birthright mate, but are you gonna disagree that arsenal in the CL would be way more interesting that seeing spurs or bolton? dunno what your "and ? " comment is all about, my point about the gunners having a bad season seems pretty accurate in'it ??

i would never call finishing behind 2 two teams with 7 combined losses a bad finish...has arsenal disappointed? yes...very young and very much injury stricken

I'm a fan of the Toon, but not diehard because I never get to see many games. I think I need to start finding a way to watch all the games though. I grew up in the 90s-present as a diehard Bengals (NFL) and Tigers (MLB) fan, and I miss the erotically painful feeling of supporting terrible pro teams.

SAF talked some sense into him. 6 Managers in 4 years = disaster area.

Jaun Pablo-Angel just got signed by the NY red bulls.

62 mil or something like that.

Seems like the MLS is starting to bring some half way decent players over

^ (I'm a RBNY fan)

I don't think that $62 million number is right. Where did you see that?

Also, Italy has lost the vote to host Euro 2012. It's going to Poland and Ukraine as a joint bid.

I know this isn't EPL related, but the salary cap for MLS teams is only $2.1 million. They have that rule where they can designate two players who's salaries won't count against the cap, but that's still low as shit.

Yeah, it's low. But you can't go from absolutely nothing to a 100 million dollar salary cap. MLS is doing the right thing... steadily increasing the salaries year to year, building a foundation, allowing young players to work through their system, and eventually they'll have better players, draw better foreign players and so on. The quality of the game is what brings fans, not bells and whistles... so if the league can progress every year, higher salaries will come with time.

^ It's been discussed 50 million times on BigSoccer, and everytime the same answer came up, from both Americans and Europeans.

It'd be great, but not in the near future.

Here's to Charlton somehow doing the unthinkable and climbing out of the attic...

Away against Blackburn and Liverpool
Home against Tottenham

I realize this is next to impossible - but Fulham has a TOUGH road ahead (Arsenal and Liverpool), I'd love to see Charlton stick around the EPL for at least another season
