No shit our team sucks, you fucking faggot. It sucks because of Chuck Amato. You can't sit there with a straight face and say we shouldn't have beaten UNC with all the pieces we have.

We're talented but our coaching staff doesn't know how to use it effectively. The discipline issue falls back on the coaches also. 11/18/2006 8:23:00 PM |

I can sit here with a straight face and say that our O-line is the worst I've ever seen. And that we have great potential in our backfield, yet since the talent on our O-line is so bad, they never have a hole to run through.
Calling me a faggot for stating my opinion about our team? come on man seriously.
Fact is I agree that we need changes, but firing everyone isn't going to do anything. It's the players that are playing badly. Chuck isn't throwing interceptions, and Chuck isn't telling people to line up incorrectly on the line of scrimmage, and Chuck isn't the one not making holes for the running backs.
I'm not trying to defend Chuck, I agree that he's not that great of a coach, but all of the mistakes that I've seen in our losses have been player mistakes.
EDIT: If this were an NFL team they wouldn't be firing Chuck and Trestman, they would be trading out our O-line for people that don't false start and guys that can run block.

Honestly I don't think it makes a difference if he stays or not. If they don't respect someone who coached the same team that a number one draft pick and an incredible quarterback came from then I don't think they'll respect anyone else.

This season has made it very hard for Fowler to continue to make arguements for Chuck to stay, and after that ass-raping of a football game I think a lot of the figures with actual sway in the university will say enough is enough. That was probably the poorest performance I have witnessed in person at a NCSU football game. And the worst part is a lot of the wounds were self-inflicted. It seemed like with every play we were shooting ourselves in the foot and barely trying. That says something about Lee Fowler's standards compared with UNC's if a 1 2-9 coach who was already fired for not being able to win ball games totally destroys our team, yet our coach is OK in his book......... 11/18/2006 9:31:27 PM |

Get a MAC coach that does well right now. Someone from a low program hungry to do well. Amato has not done much that no one else couldn't do since Rivers' junior year and the Gator Bowl. College football coaches at mid-level BCS programs today are so spoiled by the fact they get 3 games against easy opponents usually every year so that they can prop up their 3-5 mediocre conference record and still go to a bowl game.
So here is Amato's record against BCS teams, all away games, and bowl games only:
(so remove I-AA, home games against non-BCS conference sides)
2000: 6-4, won Micron PC Bowl 2001: 5-5, lost Tangerine Bowl 2002: 8-3, won Gator Bowl 2003: 6-5, won Tangerine Bowl 2004: 4-6 2005: 4-5, won Meineke Car Care Bowl 2006: 2-7 (this is removing a loss against Akron that was supposed to be a gimme win)
So record against teams that were near our caliber or better in his tenure: 35-35 That record without Philip Rivers: 10-18
ACC Conference Record in his tenure: 25-31 ACC Conference Record without Philip Rivers: 8-16
Making a bowl game in today's college football universe is worthless when someone like Northern Illinois can make a bowl game going 6-6.
If you're going to make the argument that no one can do better, that is fine and it is your opinion. Then when we need to just take the UNC/Duke approach to football and just not give a s*** about the sport except to collect bowl money from other teams at the end of the year, just aim to go 6-6 and call that a good year. Ticket prices will come down and "lifetime seating rights" will become even more a joke cause it's not like people in the future would be in doubt of ever getting a ticket.
We're not an A-school, no one could ever doubt that we are not. But if what Amato is doing this year is the best we can do according to you, then we're not even a B-school either.
(And another thing, all of us are just griping on an internet message board. For God's sakes, we do not have any voice on what happens to Amato! That decision is made by a bunch of rich alumni. Those rich alumni than go to Weisinger-Brown, they tell Lee Fowler what decision he is supposed to make, and either Fowler makes that decision or they then go to the Chanceller Oblinger's mansion and tell Oblinger to fire Fowler. That is how things work in college sports. Rich alumni that give lots of money to the university and use their money donations to make decisions by deciding to not give it to said university anymore. Okay?)

I said that people should wait til the Carolina game. If people want him fired, I'm not going to berate anyone for it.
Personally, I think he should get one year to turn it around. He hasn't had a quarterback, and the O-line has been awful for the last two years.
Burke came here because of Trestman. Trestman is grooming him to be the heir apparent. Trestman should get one more year.
If they can't improve with a better quarterback and older receivers, improve that defense a bit, and just get that o-line to be marginally decent, then get rid of him. 11/18/2006 11:42:18 PM |

CHUCK HAS TO GO
anyone catch his latest excuse or whine session after the heel game? it was in the durham herald sun this morning and i assume the N&O as well. He states "well, Lou Holtz was 2-2 against them, and he was a great coach, and we were 3-3 against them, and now we're 3-4"
that is awesome chuck. WE DO NOT CARE WHAT ANOTHER COACH DID AGAINST UNC IN ANOTHER ERA WHEN THE TEAMS WERE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT AND COLLEGE FOOTBALL WAS MUCH DIFFERENT. I don't know if Lou Holtz ever lost to them when he had more talent, but you have now 3 TIMES IN A ROW. I cannot take another petty excuse. he has never taken any responsibility for anything that goes on in this program that is negative. he will take credit for the facilities every 5 seconds, but when anything negative comes up he ALWAYS has an excuse.
also, he has to go so we do not fall too far behind carolina. W/ them getting Butch, he could have them rolling next year or the year after at worst and if we keep idiot around and he keeps doing what he is doing it is only going to get worse and it will take us forever to catch up to the Heels in recruiting and all other things when a new coach does come in.
seriously everyone it is time. we have facilities and talent to attract a good coach. unc hadn't even been competetive but in one game this year against DI talent and they whooped us yesterday thoroughly for 3 of the 4 quarters. it is time for a change.

If we had a really shitty team we would not have had the talent to beat BC or FSU..... our losses were a result of a few things.... bad play calling, lack of discipline, and our players making very stupid choices (also could go under lack of discipline but I am not saying all of that is chucks fault).

LOL at those people that say we have a shitty team. We have some tru damn talent all around. We been pretty decent in sending some players to the pro's and they have been producing well and really shoing high caliber talent that shows we produce athletes...
Now whats fucked up is evident. As so many others have said and I totally agree..it comes down to coaching. Yeah, it is the players fucking up on the field with lack of discipline giving us a hundred yards of penalties a game...but that in the end always falls on the coaches laps. Bad play calling...coaches decisions. Many of our games were lost because of holding, late face masks, giving up long 3rd downs b/c of penalties, off-sides and pass inteference. We have a 3 and 1...turns into a 3 and 11. We get other team to 3 and 13, we give them a first down after stopping them. Game in and game out for multiple seasons.
I know we are going to be stuck with him for one more year, but I want him fired. I was pro-amato and I feel he did what he needed to do here, get us some noteriety and face time. Showed we can put some athletes in the league and make some noise.
Now we need a constant leader, a coach that can lead, a coach that can take blame and whip some asses into hard core machines....
Ok...back to studying law...exams coming up
