Carr needs more time to recover Carolina Panthers coach John Fox said Friday that Vinny Testaverde would start at quarterback in Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Fox said David Carr, who missed the Panthers' last game two weeks ago against Arizona, still needs time to recover from a back injury.

Why did you guys let keyshaun(sp) go and not try to draft a viable replacement?
I'm a packers fan and 3/4 of our receiving core is a 3rd round draft pick +.10/29/2007 7:23:25 AM |

Everyone thought we had drafted a viable replacement in Jarrett...but either he is slow to learn the offense or our coaches are retarded, or some combination of that.
Key wasn't going to blow anyone away but his most important asset wasn't catching passes...he drew attention away from Steve Smith. Now with Keary Colbert and Drew Carter opposite him, Smith gets no room to operate.
After watching Indy and New England for 2 months, it just feels like everyone else is playing for second anyway, with San Diego and Pittsburgh having a snowball's chance. But in the NFC, where out best team is 3 touchdowns worse at home to the AFC's best, we still are right in the thick of it. Especially in our division, easily the weakest in the league. My favorite right now is actually New Orleans, who is 3-0 since that 0-4 start. But I could easily see the winner of the NFC South having 8 wins, maybe even 7.
And Peter King given props to Charlotte

i hope yesterday enlightened some fans. while it is still obvious vinny is not that great, he is still a much, much better game manager than carr.
i'm not trying to say vinny is a godsend or anything, but he is still a much better option than carr.10/29/2007 11:45:57 AM |

Definitely not going to any home game until there's an overhaul of this shitty team. 10/29/2007 11:56:41 AM |

Steve Smith laying the hammer down on Jarrett...I like it
Quote : | "Smith has message for rookie
Very interesting incident just happened in the locker room. Two reporters were talking with rookie receiver Dwayne Jarrett about his frustration at barely getting to play after being a second-round pick.
As Jarrett was talking, receiver Steve Smith, who hasn’t been talking to the media recently, walked out to his own locker and talked to Jarrett.
“Instead of talking to the media, why don’t you go watch some film?’’ Smith said.
Jarrett gave a slight smile and kept talking to the media.
Smith, followed up in a very strong tone.
“Seriously,’’ Smith said.
Jarrett did keep talking and we’ll have a full story on his rough rookie season in tomorrow’s paper. – PAT YASINSKAS" |

jarrett wants a bobblehead doll, and to be able to change his cell phone plan w/o hassle
Quote : | "Everything but rubbing dirt in it ...
While it's questionable whether quarterback Vinny Testaverde will be ready to go Sunday, the trainers are throwing everything under the sun at his strained Achilles' tendon. "Whirlpool, hot tub, ice, cold tub, ultrasound on there and whatever else they can think of," Testaverde said. While most players got to enjoy family time or just relaxed today, Vinny was getting treatments, probably everything this side of voodoo rituals. Which made it impossible for him to go home to Long Island for a family break. But -- if he can get healthy -- he seems to be the quarterback of choice for the coaching staff right now, and he's doing everything he can to recover quickly. I think Testaverde is still a tossup for Sunday's game at Tennessee, but David Carr should be ready to go. He was pleased and surprised at the way his back felt after last week's game, and he'll likely be 100 percent by the weekend. Third quarterback Matt Moore is fine, in case anyone's interested." |

it must suck to be matt moore, your fantasy of having the 1st and 2nd string QB's go down comes true and you only get 2 snaps then you have to play 3rd string to a 45 year old, and a guy with a broken back 10/31/2007 6:54:55 PM |

Man I was excited after the panthers scored and then made Indy punt, but then when Robinson screwed up the punt return... I seriously thought we were going to win the game until that point. And David Carr is awful, I'd take Testaverde over him anyday. If only Jake was still healthy, he was off to a great start, 8 Tds and only 1 pick. With the way things are going now I'm guessing we will end up at 8-8 again or worse... 10/31/2007 8:50:14 PM |

anyone see the article in the charlotte observer where it said dwayne jarrett was talking to a few reporters and steve smith walked up and told him he should be watching some film instead of talking to them and jarrett "half-smiled politely" to him and kept talking, onlt have to have smith stare at him and say, no, seriously, and then walk off?

The titans are a team that the panthers match up well against......it'll be a low scoring, defensive matchup.....and they're away , so I think we'll win this one to go to 5-3 and still have first place in the division. 11/1/2007 10:50:56 AM |

Quote : | "Former UCLA quarterback Drew Olson arrived in Charlotte late Monday night and will take a physical exam for the Carolina Panthers today, according to two league sources.
If Olson passes the physical, it's likely the Panthers will sign him to the practice squad. There's concern that David Carr and Vinny Testaverde will miss practice time this week and the Panthers want a quarterback to help take some of the reps in practice because undrafted rookie Matt Moore is the team's only healthy quarterback.
Olson also has drawn interest from the Minnesota Vikings, the sources said and it's possible he could end up there if he's not signed by the Panthers. The sources said the Vikings may be looking for a more experienced quarterback and they're expected to work out Koy Detmer today and may also bring in former Panthers quarterback Chris Weinke, a Minnesota native for a look.
Despite a productive career at UCLA, Olson went undrafted when he came out in 2006. He went to training camp with the Baltimore Ravens that year and played in NFL Europa earlier this year, but has not been able to land a roster spot.

In 2005. Leave it to the Panthers to re-sign a guy who's played maybe 10 games for them over 5 years, but cut their second best offensive player.11/7/2007 7:48:29 AM |
