what's the latest somebody's hit over .400 in a season since Ted Williams? We're almost 1/4 of the way done, Chipper's up at .424 as of this AB.. I'm sure sportscenter or a game will tell somebody, but just off the top of my head recently Nomar was July 20 in 2000 at .403...

^im not sure. I know chipper is hitting like a man possessed right now, but i don't think anyone should even be mentioning him and ted in the same breath until, like krukky said, july or august.

yeah i know, i'm sure it wont last, but i was just seeing if anybody could think of anybody late in the season. I just looked up Nomar, Magglio, Ichiro, Freddy Sanchez...people I could think of that were anywhere close recently, I dunno if Gwynn was ever up there. The only thing was that Nomar got real hot to get up to .403, Chipper would have to be cold to get down to .403. But Nomars was like 2 months further into the season. Like I said, I know its only like the quarter mark, but I'd love a summer of Chipper gettin all sorts of recognition and people talking about it

The last serious threat I can remember was Todd Helton in 2000. According to BR, the last day he was at .400 was June 10.

Gwynn hit .394 in '94, but was below .390 until the last week of the season and under .400 since mid-May. He made it to July 14 in '97.

Larry Walker made it to May 26 in '99. Galarraga made it to July 5 in '93.

you'd figure it's pretty easy to keep the ball from being belt high over the middle of the plate

and he only throws about 85 mph, so it does no good

James, however, is garbage until he learns that you can't throw 89 mph fast balls at the letters all day and expect to get anyone out.

Smoltz and Soriano are both still sore. Both are supposed to throw some on Thursday, no word on when they'll be back. Gonzalez could be ready to go by mid-June.

I'm glad Glavine saved up his energy. We couldn't have him pitching too long the last game of the '07 season. Really needed to prepare for this start.

lookin like we're gonna sweep the double header today.

Some very, very, very good pitching by Glavine and Campillo. Campillo may be making a case to get into our rotation. 6 strong, 3 hits, 7 k's.

atta boy Kotsay

from seeing him at a few games, he is a really really nice guy, he interacts a LOT with the crowd, several times I have seen him toss the warm up ball up to the crowd and then request an extra ball or two to be thrown to him to toss up there to people that didnt get one... and at Sunday's game a fan dropped a cell phone and it happened to land on top of the wall and he climbed the wall to get it and tossed it back

I guess Campillo might be good. Did anybody see him throw? I've never had a chance to see him, what's he like? 11.1 scoreless IPs for Campillo now, watch out Orel!

Now maybe you guys will shut the fuck about the mets fans falling and dying

Quote :
"ATLANTA -- A 25-year-old man died from injuries sustained after falling about 150 feet down a stairwell at Turner Field during Wednesday night's game between the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets.

The senior investigator with the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office, Mark Guilbeau, said Thursday that the man who fell was Justin Hayes of Cumming, Ga.

Guilbeau said an autopsy will be done to determine the cause of death.

Atlanta Police Department spokesman Ronald Campbell said Hayes was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with serious head injuries. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Hayes was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Braves spokesman Brad Hainje said Hayes apparently fell from the club level to the landing on the stairwell on the field level during the eighth inning.

Campbell said Hayes may have been sliding down the handrails when he fell and that alcohol may have been involved.

Police are still investigating the incident.

Earlier this season, a fan at Shea Stadium in New York was killed when he plunged four stories from an escalator during a game. According to media reports, witnesses said the man was perched on the escalator handrail when he lost his balance and fell. "

Soriano threw a scoreless inning in AA.. Scheduled for another on Friday, then I'm sure they'll try to get him to throw on back-to-back days early next week. Could be up with the team mid to late next week if everything goes ok.

I'd still rather have Smoltz in the rotation over Reyes. Especially if those two are coming back also, seems like he'd do better to stay a starter. Was he still planning on being a RP? haven't seen anything on it in a while
