Well Proctor is athletic and we gave him a shot at impressing the coaches enough to have him offered as a QB. Now it's up to the coaches. The thing about Proctor is that even if he doesn't make it at QB he is athletic enough that he could play safety. I would just hope he'd be a team player enough to accept the move if such a scenario played out.

I like this commit. I think Gregg Pratt kind of cooled on us. Washington is a good pickup. It's nice to keep getting guys from Florida. Oh no TOB is ignoring the state of NC! How dare he not go after Desmond Scott. State has too many Florida kids on the roster! Rabble, rabble, rabble.

foundation, nothing. if we had a class of all 3* recruits, i'd be happy as a clam (strange idiom but work with me). the guys we are getting are all solid players, which is better than the "who is that?" recruit. if we did get a highly rated guy, (*cough* xavier *cough*), then that would be good too, but don't knock the 3* guys.

Scouts Grade - 74

Washington is a slippery, in-line back who will need to add additional bulk to keep current production at the college level. Lacks some size now but he possesses a rangy, wiry frame that appears to still be growing. Not afraid to hit it up hard inside between the tackles but simply lacks the running strength and power to produce consistent yards after the contact at this time. Shows some decisiveness sharply cutting and knifing through the small creases; displays good body control, balance and lean as a runner. Flashes good lateral quickness and perimeter speed bouncing it outside and turning the corner. Reaches top-speed within a few steps allowing him to hit the seams just as they open and run with deceptive power as well. Does not shy away from contact despite his size and will lower the shoulder and fight for extra yardage. Spins, bounces and runs through initial arm tackles but yards after contact can be inconsistent and will be greatly reduced at the next level until he builds up his frame. Our main issue is his lack of great elusiveness for a smaller runner. Did not break off many long runs in the game films we viewed showing marginal vision and change-of-direction quickness in the openfield. Not overly sudden through the hole as well and struggles at times hitting the cutback seams and making defenders miss. With that said, he does possesses good speed, acceleration, toughness and determination as a runner. With added bulk he could develop into a productive 200-pound one-cut and go slashing type of runner at the college level with the lateral quickness and initial burst to still offer a team a perimeter threat as a runner. Soft hands out of the backfield and versatility to fit in both downhill and zone running schemes add to his upside.

I mostly meant we received bad news and good news on the same day and they more or less balanced each other out. That said, I would think a solid punter is more noticeable than a solid OT (of course, i really have no idea if either of these guys qualifies as 'solid'). Ward kicks it well and it looks like he plays goalie in soccer so he probably has pretty good hands too. The chips fall and while not getting Michel sucks, it's nothing to lose sleep over.

Right now I am doing what TOB and staff are doing. Recruiting. Of course mine is on NCAA 2008. Any suggestions on strategies you've used in the past that have gotten you in good with 4* prospects? I'm taking Temple to the promised land. I like to build up low level teams to national powerhouses. I figured they'd be a good team to go with. They play in an NFL stadium so I can potentially turn it into a tough place to play, and recruits will like playing there. Also living in a big city like Philly is attractive to some recruits. When I took over they were a 1* program. After a 14-0 season they are now a 2* program. It was bullshit though. I went undefeated and still didn't get ranked in the Top 25 at seasons end. I was like #26. It furthered my thinking that we shouldn't have polls that matter until week 4. I won the MAC. I had the two best return men in college football. I had a WR who set the NCAA record for most receiving yards in a season, won best WR, and he also won the Heisman. I ended up winning Coach of the Year. All of my starters made either 1st or 2nd all-conference. One of my returnmen was a freshman and got on the Freshman All-American team as well as 2nd team All-American (the other returnman got on the 1st team All-American list). I didn't play a hard schedule, but it wasn't necessarily easy. I think I'm playing on All-American difficulty (that's the level just below Heisman right?). My OOC looked like this @ UConn, @ Navy, App State (112-0 , all of my other games were nowhere near as easy though and a few went into OT), and @ Army.

Not to derail this thread but this is exactly what I think is wrong with the BCS. If a team has a perfect season but didn't start the season highly ranked and played in a non-BCS conference, then they have no chance of making the National Championship game. Granted, you could look at Hawaii this year and make the case, "See! They got killed by UGA! I knew they couldn't win the title." Does that mean that they shouldn't have had a chance to play for it? I say no. Hindsight is 20-20 and you can never predict how good a team will play against another, no matter the rankings or legacy. This is why we need to give more teams a chance to play for the national championship (i.e. a playoff). The alternative is to stay with the format we have now; take the current most hyped-up team and let them play Ohio State.

Oh I enjoy the game fine. All-American is good for me. Heisman is a little ridiculous with how the computer players make crazy ass plays and their WRs in the vicinity can grab a ball that was swatted away from the original receiver. Plus it's pretty damn hard to play with a team as bad as Temple. A few years ago I would just simulate recruiting.

Punters rarely get ranked. I'm excited about having a punter that can boom 50 yard punts. A good punter can really help you win games. Field position really can affect play calling. Chris Ward was an All-Region and All-County punter as a junior.

Chris Ward was named the #1 punter in the nation in some magazine. Whether or not that magazine is legit, just to be mentioned means he's doing something right, and extremely well at that. If you can't get excited about a good punter, you probably don't understand the nuances of football.

Pierson may have earned a scholarship later on when he established himself as our starting punter, but he came in as an undecorated walk-on. He's been decent, but nothing spectacular.

Tyler Lewis, the highly decorated kid (EA Sports All-American game, Army All-American game) from the 2004 recruiting class, never even got off a punt in college. He redshirted and then dropped out.

Wilmington Hoggard HS, not UNCW.
He came in pretty decorated, redshirted a year, shanked a punt, then fumbled a snap. That put his ass on the bench, and he pretty much took his ball and went home. That's all that ever became public.

yeah, having a great punter can help a lot more than people think... not to turn this into a Tennessee thread but I remember SEVERAL games (mostly low scoring, tight defensive games) where Dustin Colquitt (now with KC in the NFL) completely turned the game around with a booming punt that tipped field position in favor of UT.

Yes. I saw some great punting at Wake games the last few years--it can save your ass when the offense is having trouble (and god knows State's offense has been troubled for four years).
